Remember when they used to have breaking information on new putters? To me, it would seem that the guys at Byron, Mills, Xenon, Lajosi and whoever else I'm missing would be better served finding a new platform.

I mean how many truly active members are there still? 50?

First I would like to thank Golfwrx for keeping this thread open.

Reference chickenpotpie post: You need to remember the amount of time and $$$$$ it takes to run a website like Puttertalk and of course this website, don't know if you been to Puttertalk BUT have you ever wondered who flips the bill? Or the cost involved on the hardware and the cost to keep said hardware running? Why don't YOU provide the platform Byron, Lejosi, Mills, Xenon and everyone else needs,,,,

One can only imagine the resources needed to run this site, more than I make a year?

It's a ghost town now compared to what it was.

Byron's page is still really strong though. I wonder if he stays out of loyalty to Doug?

I don't argue any of that, and I have no interest in doing it....I have zero interest in any of those brands. I originally joined because I liked Bettinardi putters, and they migrated over here. That forum is now deader than dead. I'm not sure why these smaller brands have not done the same, where there's a much bigger audience. And most of the members there are members here too (witness this thread).

And I just wonder, for the guy doing it all (Doug), why bother? It costs him time and money, and what's he getting out of it? Sounds like he's busier doing his day job now, versus when he started the site.

theres just a lot here that doesn't make any sense to me.

I used to run a website and after the BB software is purchased the only real cost is the hosting, which for a message board of that small size cant be more than $75 a month.

Why do we always have to do something to get something out of it? Maybe he's just a nice guy giving back? He seems to do a lot of that through his business.

Really!?!? $75? So the bandwidth and storage would be only $75? Guess Golfwrx costs about what?!?! $150 to $225?You ever been to PT?

I've been a member here and at PT since 2008 and while they have lost several great members at PT for various reasons what is there is a pretty tight knit group. To me there is a higher percentage of knowledgeable members at PT than here. Most all members respect makers other than their favorites and there are no "plants" that pose as fanboys pumping particular brands or sponsors since there are no sponsors. For me, I'll read most threads at PT but here I have to sift through them to find real information I am interested in. No bashing just MHO.

I read and trust both sites. Really, the bulk of my time is split between the two. WRX tells me or I can find virtually anything I want to know about golf and a lot of perspectives I never would have considered. It's a huge source of information and entertainment, lots of opportunities to interact, get educated, or dissect/argue a variety of positions depending on what interests you or even irritates you. PT is only about putters and for me, ideas and inspiration. I like looking at putters. I'm not a fan of every guy out there but they all, at least the the guys that are truly and individually active bring something to the table for me. A lot of the small boutique guys interact daily and make themselves available, which I find refreshing. It's kind of hard to get an OEM rep to talk to you at a fitting in a big box store. Do the smaller boutique guys have to do that because of their customer base? Maybe, but I think most of them also choose that line of marketing, direct to and with their consumers. It's cool to see some OEMs on WRX do Q &A, people like Jason Gore posting, the photos, and so on. It's also cool I can send a pm to Byron, Lajosi, Mann etc... And they say call me at this number to discuss. Two awesome worlds, just a little different from each other.

Puttertalk is a great Forum for Putter enthusiasts. I met Doug many years ago and you can't find a nicer guy. My interactions with the moderators and members there have always been positive. Obviously it is much smaller the WRX, but it does offer another place to get putter info and see pictures. I hope they get the site back up and running at full power.

I feel like this thread pops up once a year, maybe around the same time with PT. Might just be a standard annual maintenance window.

If you're into putters, PutterTalk is a great source and the people there are friendly, knowledgeable, and for the most part, don't pick sides. As mentioned earlier, there are very few haters or fanboys there. Just a solid group of putter-ho's. Activity has been down on some of the forums but I think they have a lot more "lurkers" there than here. Some people just like to read about putter news and look at the great pics.

It's also a huge plus for putter manufacturers. Great place to interact with several putter makers and see and hear about their latest and greatest creations.

Putter porn at it's finest.

Hope it comes back online soon. :)

This covers the value of the site, to a tee. I go thru periods where I do not stay as active there as I am at other times, but when I stop in and check out what Byron is doing or some of Lumpy's recent works, David Mills' latest goodies, or just read what some of the members post in the ClubHouse, I remember how much fun it was when I was posting and I get active again. Lately, I started posting pics and starting threads from my phone. It took me some time, (far too much time) to figure out how to size my pix on my phone so that I could put more than one in a post. Just last week, I quit being lazy long enough to find the app and I started posting new pix of my latest works. Guys love it and I enjoy the feedback.

WRX was where I began, and I have never forgotten that. If you watch my instagram posts, you will see the hashtag on about 98% of this years posts. The other 2% are just victims of an overworked, and underrested mind that is working hard just to keep up.

I am very hopeful that PutterTalk gets back online soon and assumes its place as the putter-focused site where guys can go to see the little guys and the big guys, all in one spot.

I dont know exact prices, but a small bulletin board like that cant be that much coin. Golfwrx is huge and also hosts our images as well, so not an apples to apples comparison.

i have been a member there for a long time and because I like all things putters, I wish it was more active.

Website hosting in this day and age is not expensive at all. To put it differently, doesn't HAVE to be expensive, but doesn't mean it isn't. Just depends on how people choose to do it.

PutterTalk doesn't have to be expensive to operate. Simple as that.

WRX, yeah probably costs decent coin, but likely more than covered by their revenue stream(s).
