Tour Equipment- not all its hyped up to be is it!

Recommended Posts

...and if you buy that "Tour CG" Crap.. I have some "Tour Issue Lead Tape" in lime green to help you out!!!
lol, great post.........how about the "tour only" lime green Matrix shafts that anyone in the world can order if you have a Matrix account, all you have to do is order 60 or more of the shaft quantity and you can get whatever color you want, yet somehow those lime shafts are considered special editions and sell for more money everywhere, it is mind boggling to me what people believe when someone tells them something, thank goodness we all found GolfWrx, this place is certainly alot of people's new home

True, about ordering a minimum # of shafts from Matrix and getting the colors you choose, except that specific Lime color you mentioned, it is only available to one customer, every other color is fair game in your selection.

Thanks,

Bartâ„¢

Nice fact to know Bart, but I think the above post has more to do with "the price increase" for this one color, then the fact that this color is only sold to one special Matrix distributor. Don't you think? TMBob

You could probably order a set of fitted irons from mizuno and have J Kwok grind them and spine them and they are just asa good as tour issued stuff. It just boils down to having the product fitted for you. The one I really don't unserstand is the tour SC's. It's one thing to colelct them, but that putter was built specifically to someone and unless you have the same specs and characteristics.....that putter is useless.

Without wishing to bang on about 'the dark site'...... it is an interesting business model, previous posters have had experience of buying tour equipment, realised it doesn't really make much difference and given up on it..... but then the newbie discovers it..... hey presto 'more lambs to the slaughter'!

drink up kids, there's plenty more kool-aid(lime flavour) in the fridge!

Curious as to why you think this is suprising from Metalhead. Heck, you'd think those that have delved deeply into the tour club experience would be the best guides as to the value of those clubs--at least to them. I didn't see him expounding on the tour experience for everyone, just for himself. No need to be provocational here.

I hit balls with guys on the senior's and regular tour fairly often. They many times look in my bag for "what's new", especially regarding Japanese equipment (which they absolutely love, particularly the irons). I see and hit their clubs. Well ground, well fit, but no more special than that.

I think the other site says just this: you're better off with good clubs being well fit and once they're customized they're no different than a tour club. I couldn't agree more, and I think those that buy on that site understanding that get just what they want and expect. The price anyone chooses to pay for that isn't my concern as I have chosen to pay the price when I wanted to and passed when I didn't want to.

The other site's customer seems different than posters here. There's more of a "fraternity" type of feeling there, and it's often fun and amusing to watch it, particularly at my age. It usually costs something, dues or otherwise, to belong to a fraternity, and if that shows up in the prices of things they may buy, that's probably fair value if they're receiving the other social benefits the group may offer.

This site is now huge. The other site is huge. Different feel between them, and you can go either place (well, many of us can). Make your choices, enjoy that you have them, and let others do the same.

"I think the other site says just this: you're better off with good clubs being well fit and once they're customized they're no different than a tour club."

Uh, that's not what they say. The line there is tour stuff is better, period. Better tolerances, better kinds of metal, special kinds of shafts, etc. They get newbies sucked in because they don't know anyone and see all these posters seemingly buying tons of "tour only" stuff. Lasts about a year, people realize they aren't scoring or playing any better, and then they post something and immediately get banned.

What people seem to forget is that most "Tour" equipment is rejects! A tour player tried the club(s) and didn't like them, or the clucb was built for the player and he didn't bother trying it at all. Then it ends up selling for double/triple retail price.

another great post and very true, by the way, what kind of putter is that your avatar? that just looks cool

Thanks. It's an aluminum MOI center shaft with adjustable weights. Possible weights, 340, 350, 360, 370G. I made it on my mini CNC and manual mills, and my mini lathe.

Please keep all negative references to another site alone. In our Rules it is clear we say no bashing of other sites. I know the word "bashing" is subjective but we have to live up to the rules here. We are above that.

Again businesses that sell products will prop up the brands they sell. We see this everyday. It is up to the consumer to sort out the validity.

Even with that being the case we "GolfWRX" are VERY passionate about honest and fair reviews. We also have a tendency to have an overprotective manner here. That is good. Mother hen of sorts. Golfwrx and many of our members want to make sure there is a healthy point and counterpoint in debates as it relates to reviews and opinions of golf products.

Above all we are here for the members. To provide the best information to them. Clean, fair, accurate information. Never a spin, and never for alternative motives.

Werd up.

Proto often means "not quite right yet".

Tour sometimes means "I rode in a van before they needed to dump inventory".

That is HILARIOUS  ,But oh so true!

Golfwrx is a godsend to me for multiple reasons. One of the most important ones is to stop me from being sucked in to the hype about 'latest and greatest'.

I used to play sport to a very high level so I'm used to using quality kit, I have pretty good job so I have some spare cash around to spend on new gear and I'm slightly obsessive about my kit anyway so if it weren't for the steadying influence of golfwrx I'm pretty sure I would have wasted money on gear than didn't suit me. You know, stuff like a new tour grade titanium driver with a thousand dollar shaft or a circle T SC putter. Nothing that would have helped me score better, just me indulging my inner geek!

The way I see it, I'll get tour equipment as and when I make the tour!

I play a Tour TM 300 series driver. It is 8.5 degrees and I am not sure if it is open or not. What distinguished this driver from the OEM version is the .335 bore instead of the .350 bore in the OEM. I got this driver about 3 or 4 years after the production of the 300 series ended so I did not pay a premium for the driver. I love it because I can get all the different shaft options for the .335 shaft I could possibly want. The .350 shaft was limited when I got this driver. I have no other tour items in my bag and really could care less about that distinction. I am not good enough to play "tour" equipment but am good enough to play OEM equipment to the tune of a 7-10 handicap (playing once a month on average).

you gotta be good to hit tour equipment...cause it only works if you hit them pure

Actually, the only difference I can see with my TM 300 driver is essentially the hosel bore diameter. I had both my original OTR TM 300 and my current Tour TM 300 driver shafted with the same shaft at the same length. I had to shim the OTR TM 300 but both responded the same. The only reason I am not playing the OTR is that the epoxy bond (with shimming) broke loose during a swing and the head took a tumble down the fairway and went across the cart path about 20 yards away. I do know some tour equipment with the shafts installed are more club than I can ever hit.

I would say that I would love to have a tour putter or wedges. I can always get the putter adjusted for me and I can always reshaft wedges to shafts suited for my game. I love the custom grinds the tour wedges come with.

I have a Tour issued R7. There are quite a few differences. Again, Tour equipment only works if it fits your swing. Period.

My best friend has played on tour on and off for 10 years. Grinds, bends on woods, certain stampings on wedges ,, RAT gluein heads are just the things we cant get off the shelf. go get fit by the major manufactures for a driver, or hit Vj's driver. Anyone would hit that thing 80 yards right off line. I have 1 of his drivers and i stare at it before i go to bed. Goes 10 feet off the ground and dead right. But i can say i have his TOUR ISSUED driver
