Maxfli Softfli vs. Snell Get Sum

Hey all,

Was finally able to get out and play a round after some time being busy with the new college semester. I'm a slow swinger who prefers a little draw - hit my driver 200-210 yards depending on contact, and my 7 iron 140 yards. My partner and I found the course to be fairly quiet, so we both played two balls for most of the round. I figured this would be a great time to pit the two two-piece balls against each other - the Maxfli Softfli, the ball I took a chance on buying, and the Snell Get Sum, of which my partner had a barely used one he found. (All distances measured as best as I could with my Nikon laser.)

Feel:

The Softfli feels very soft off the clubface to me but, despite its 35 compression, has a nicer little click sound than a Supersoft does. The Get Sum felt more crisp and hard to me, like a midrange Bridgestone ball.

Woods:

The Softfli was a high launching ball with my 11* 919THI, but with a flat, piercing, straight trajectory which is exactly what I want, and my 949MC fairways launched high and landed as soft as they could. Playing in a strong headwind at times, I felt the Softfli did as good as could be expected. The Get Sum, meanwhile, reminded me of an e6 - a mid to low ball flight of average distance but which kept side spin to a good minimum. In that strong headwind that I noted, the Get Sum's mid flight held true better than the Softfli. I found the Get Sum to be the normal distance for my drives and approaches, while the Softfli was consistently 5-10 yards further except into the strong wind where the balls were essentially even. Both balls seemed slightly straighter compared to my former ball, the B330-RX.

Irons:

Again, the Softfli launched very high for me, in combination with my new KBS iron shafts, but the Get Sum also launched adequately. When I pured the Get Sum, I was hitting my 7 iron to its limits around 145; when I pured the Softfli, I was hitting it higher with a 150 carry. With a headwind, the balls were equal get again, as the Get Sum held true. The Softfli doesn't lose much with regard to the wind, it's just that the Get Sum doesn't lose anything at all and that evens them out.

Wedges:

This is where the Softfli stood out to me - the same high launch and distance, but that didn't at all result in significant rollout. The Softfli stuck within 5 feet of its mark all but once. I found the Get Sum to have that same mid flight and rollout was just, maybe, a yard more. It wasn't much different, but it was enough. I didn't find the wind to affect either ball much at all off the wedges, which is good as the RX at times caused me unexpected fits at random times with full and 3/4 wedges. With pitches and chips, the Softfli goes farther naturally than the Get Sum and a bit higher, too. The Get Sum, however, I found sat exceptionally well with little rollout, while the Softfli had an extra foot to two feet of rollout.

Putter: The Softfli feels and jumps much like a Supersoft does off the putter, which takes some getting used to. Putting is the best part of my game, and I rarely ever three putt, but I had several in my first round with this ball. The Get Sum, though, was just like the RX was for me; no adjustment needed with a solid feel of control. It took me a few rounds to get used to the Supersoft when I used to play it, and the Softfli will take the same for me, I assume.

Overall, I think the 2 for $25 Maxfli Softfli is one of the greatest buys for anyone with a slower swing speed. The Get Sum is an admirable performer and at a good price; the theme for the Get Sum to me is that it is like Jordan Speith - just super consistent. I would prefer it to be softer and for the flight to come up slightly, but it is a good golf ball. If the Softfli didn't fit me so well and give me consistent distance gains with only slight weakness in the wind, I would pick the Get Sum over nearly anything else, including the Supersoft. Fortunately for me, the Maxfli Softfli does fit me better than any ball I've played so far. With a higher flight and distance over both of those aforementioned balls, I'm confident that the rest of this fall and next year will see my endless carousel of golf balls end. And you can hold me to that! Consider me insanely impressed.

Very interesting comparison.

I too, have a slower swing speed (87-95) and have been gaming low compression balls....to date I have tried Maxfli Softli, Snell Get Sum, Titleist DT Trusoft, 3Up 2S14, Wilson Duo & Wilson Duo Spin. Of these I like the Softli(2 doz/$25) & Get Sum(3 doz/$45) the best. Both tend to be a bit longer off the driver and chip well around the greens.

Anybody else been comparing Low compression balls?

I played the E6 for four years before going with Supersoft two years ago. Also get the occasional NXT Tour S for $9.99 a dozen and use them. I like the supersoft the best. Have not tried all the balls you have tried. Was very curious about Softfli and Duo.

I experimented a bit early last season with low compression balls and tried the Softfli, Supersoft, PD Soft, and Gamer Soft. The 3 piece Gamer Soft was the best ball around the greens, but I stayed with the Softfli because I preferred the feel and extra distance, which is not that much more than the others but I get a kick out of the few extra yards. The 2015 Supersoft had much better feel than the 2014 version and was about as long as the Softfli but not enough to adopt as my regular ball for the season.

I will likely try the Titlelist TruSoft this coming season but it will have to really impress to replace the Softfli as my primary or Gamer Soft as my secondary ball.

I don't have that slow of a swing speed & I hit all balls pretty well..........for me it ends up being how much I like them along with the cost of the ball. I just snagged a whole bunch of E6's (used) & will roll with them this golfing season.

I felt the Softfli's were too soft. Have been playing Chrome Soft and they are good. Soft. But, not too soft. Curious about the new Callaway SuperHot 55's.

I have some of the older Project (a) ball that I'm going to try out come spring, but my love affair with the Softfli won't go away. I feel like I'm going to lose the Project (a) short and crooked off the driver like I do every other 'spinny' urethane ball model (V1, RXS, CS, etc.) and not gain enough back in other aspects. Interesting to hear NJpatbee bring up the improvements on the Supersoft. If any ball for my game were to challenge the Softfli on its own merits...

The Superhot 55 I assume is still a three piece and would fair similar to the regular Gamer (and HX Hot iterations before it). Curious how that compression changes its feel.

Duo and Get Sum seemed exactly the same to me, except the Duo is a good bit softer IMO. I love what Mr. Snell is doing with his business model, though, and still feel that the Get Sum is a very good ball. Who knows, maybe I'll change my mind (like that's anything new :taunt: ) and try gaming the Get Sum or Supersoft.

My Club Championship is coming up this weekend so I need to decide what ball to play....

Wilson Duo

Snell Get Sum

Maxfli Softfli

Maxfli U3

3UP 2S14(yes, I still have some)

Bridgestone B330RX

MG 380E(compares to NXT Tour)

Those are the choices in my current inventory.....

Lately, with the cooler temps, I've been playing the Duo & Get Sum. However, the temp has wormed up a bit and will be in the mid 70's this weekend. so that brings the Bridgestone & MG into play.

Hmm, interesting dilemma here. Ho'ing golf balls is tough work - I can attest to that!

Still have a dozen of my trusty Softfli balls lying around, but I'm hitching my cart to test the Supersoft (again) to start the season. Because I prefer yellow and am increasingly missing the softer feel of the first model Supersoft. Launch monitor I was on recently had them both (SS & Softfli) performing basically equal for me, so I ended up buying some of the SS.

Just on the temps and with it being a tourney, the RX's urethane could be the best bet, but I'd hesitate moving away from a ball right before a tourney if I played that ball so much at the time. Personally, I'd stick with the Duo or Get Sum unless you feel you're in a very good groove right now.

Good luck, and go low!

The MG 380E were closed out so i got 4 doz at $10/doz. I played the Wilson Duo and came in 4th place out of 38 Players in a two-day net points game.

Now I am gaming the Snell My Tour Ball(MTB) This ball has all the characteristics of a Prov V1 but half the cost.
