Private or Public? If it doesn't matter then Boot Ranch is the best I have ever played. If public I would say Pine Dunes in Frankston
I'd say public or "resort". I'm sure Dallas National would be up there but I can't get on there.....yet....

Preston Trails is probably not number 1 for the golf course (though it's high up there), but it's an awesome experience for sure. Brookhollow GC is a challenging Tillinghast design. The most difficult would probably be a tie between Ram Rock in Horseshoe Bay or the JW Marriot course where they play the PGA tour event (as opposed to the Champions Tour event played on the other course).

I haven't played Whispering Pines.. but I've heard it's amazing. Dallas National is by all accounts great as well, and not something you'd expect to find in the DFW metroplex in terms of the terrain.

Colonial CC ...Obviously
Dallas Nat ... Obviously

To me those would be the big two in Texas.

Honorable mention :

Vaquero

The TPC 4 seasons is a bad golf course. It's just long , it protects its scores with sheer length.

Sorry missed the public or resort.

Good Public or semi private N Tx
Tierra Verde Arlington
Waterchase is good
I really like Squaw Valley too

It could be if they didn't keep it sloppy wet all but 2 weeks out of the year

I played it a couple weeks before the tournament and it was pretty great. Perfect condition and a lot of great holes. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's probably OK to have different opinions on which courses you think are best.

GCoH. Great, if you like unwalkable golf courses and boring golf holes. 5 good holes, 13 pretty boring ones. Conditioning is fantastic right before the tournament when the rye is lush - not good at all the rest of the year.

I rode. I would challenge you on 5 good holes but then again your opinion might differ. That's ok. If you enjoy walkable courses then a long tough course probably isn't for you.

Good hole on The Tournament Course.
2 is okay
4 I like
12 I like
16 I like

The Member Course is so much better.

What would you consider a good golf hole? Playability? Beauty? Challenge?

I would say there are a ton of holes with good risk/reward. I think the greens are challenging. 17 and 18 are two really intense finishing holes. Yall say that it is "boring" I would say there aren't but a couple holes that don't require you to think through it.

Again, we can disagree and that is fine. I loved the member course. I just happened to like the challenge presented on the tournament course more.

A good hole needs strategy. Sadly Redstone is mostly bomb it and hit it again.
The Tour plays there, it must be good. Right?
Gcoh tournament course is everything that is bad in modern architecture in one venue.
I actually don't even think its that hard except for the par 3s and 18.

What all would you say is "everything that is bad"? Just interested. Funny how two golfers can have differing views.

It is the logical conclusion of courses designed solely for PGA Tour play. It sits on a massive piece of property that is hostile to walkers and spectators alike. All of the par fives have junk at 290 off the tee, the par 3's are all raised greens, and the par fours with the exception of a couple holes are basically all the same. The greens are interesting until you realize that you have a straight putt as long as you hit it in the correct quadrant of the greens, the green within a green concept gets old after the first couple holes. There are 122 tee boxes. They overseed with rye so that is perfect in the spring for a couple weeks but not playable most of the summer. Etc.

It is purely pga stadium punch a clown.

And that's my opinion of GCoH tournament course. I really like the members course btw.

This sounds much more scathing than I really feel... I enjoy playing it for the most part. But interesting architecture or value for money? Blah.
