So is 50 grams like standard if you switch from a long putter?
Dont think there is a standard with regards to counter balancing.

You have to experiment for yourself.

There is a cheaper alternative to these counterweights.

Some people use some hardware stuff like pins for counterweighting. I am not familiar with those, perhaps someone with more experience regarding this would like to chime in?

I dont like those as they are never going to be as heavy as tungsten.

This means that for the same weight, tungsten will put more of that weight closer to the butt of the club compared to all other materials.

This would be personal preference. You can't say you don't like those having never tried them yourself. I've used both...and can't notice a difference. Some campanies just use a heavy grip as a "counterbalance". I would experiment at home with lynch pin or carriage bolts or something similar then spend the Cash on a tour lock. Counter balancing isn't for everyone.

Its true, you have to try them all for yourself. But it is partly a mental thing, it you think it is not as good, it is going to affect your game.

However, distributing the weight can work nicely too. The Balance Certified Stabilizer for putters has sliding weights that can modify the swing weight by 2-3 points depending on their position.

Yup theres that and how low you decide to hold the counter balanced club. So many things to play with in counterbalancing.

Has anyone used those CB weights for their driver? I have a driver and a fairway wood that are counterbalanced with lead tape but it makes it annoyingly bulkier. I'm curious if these would work but I have to figure out, how many grams I need to add first.
I think it is possible, balance certified do have a "drop-in weight" category under their "driver" category on their product page

http://www.balancecertified.com/products.html

If you need to know how much weight you need, take off all your lead weight from each club and weight them. Or if you are the type that really like to tinker, try the AMT shaft stabilizer by balance certified.

How much weight you need is something only you can answer for yourself through trial and error.

I only mention Balance Certified because i have only tried them. I chose them over tour lock because the are slimmer than tourlock's offering and were the only ones that could fit down the shaft extension on my putter. Even then i had to take a reamer to the insides of the shaft extension and ream out about 1/64" of material from the last inch; took me a long time by hand.

If you go with Tour Lock weights is it necessary to buy their grip modification tool or is there a simple way the modify the butt of the grip to accept the weight?
As long as you can find a tool that will drill the right size hole (I think like 9mm) you would be fine. The only thing missing would be the countersink so that the top of the weight would sit flush, but that is mainly cosmetic I'd say.

I used a 80g counterweight with my 350g blade putter and I LOVE it. Distance control is a ton easier and it makes it much simpler for me to make a quiet stroke.
There is a lot less to think about now when I make a putt. It is much more about direction + speed, instead of direction + speed + some more wrist coordination.

It is not neccessary, just buy a hole cutter or a hole saw with a pilot drill.

Even something like a fostner bit would do.

I think the difference between hole saw and a hole cutter is that the saw has a thicker teeth and grinds out a hole but a saw has a thinner teeth which cuts out the hole.

Fostner bits also grind out holes.

Grinding out a hole is very messy, very much full of debris. And you don't have a cap to use in case you don't want to use a counter balance insert any more.

Fostner bits, http://d13z1xw8270sfc.cloudfront.net/origin/181434/273203_enppipro1.jpg

What i think is a hole saw, http://www.monotaro.sg/g/00081687/

What i think is a hole cutter, http://www.monotaro.sg/g/00198823/

If you want counter sunk, just buy a countersunk bit of the right angle.

As for what size you need for the hole cutter and what counter sunk bit you need, you will have to measure them.
