TP Mills - Post your Putter

Recommended Posts

I've been working on this one for the past week. I started hitting putts with the new Wilson 8802 in Golfsmith and fell in love with it. Ever since then I wanted and old school blade putter. Little did I realize I had my fathers old Spalding 1 TP Mills putter. I decided to start my own rehab project. I'm pretty much through sanding it (by hand, it takes forever). I have a little more to do with the superfine sand paper to gloss it up a bit more. I'm planning on using Liquid Gun Blue to get the black finish back and paint fill everything with a USA Red White and Blue theme and top it off with a white Lamkin EBL 3Gen Pistol grip.

Hand Made by Truett, Bottom stamps from David...Early 80's

Might be ready for a new home, as I am not a collector. Don't want to bastardize it!

Spalding Touring Pro Model

In the early 1970's, Spalding approached Mr. Mills to design putters. These early putters known as 'Touring Pro Models' were forged at Spalding and blackened by Mills. Although the records suggest the putters were gun-blued by Mills, it appears the finish was more a prime-paint finish. Gun bluing is a method to blacken carbon steel which is essentially a deep color rust coating. These early putters had the familiar dot cross face pattern along with TP's initials 'TPM' on the face at the heel and the words Touring Pro Model on the sole.

Great putter. Too bad David stamped the bottom.

Love the "sisters" in the middle. One of those is your gamer right?
Hey buddy!
Yep, one of the sisters is in my gamer rotation. They were Custom Hand Made sticks by David. He only made 2 in this headshape, and I absolutely love them. Kind of a cross between a Heritage and a Klassic. Fantastic feel/feedback from them. They were listed as DFM-1014 in the Mills registry.

Are you talking about the 2nd one from the left?
That's actually a 1b w/ pocket 50th anniversary putter. The Tribute '62.

Here are some of my old Mills.... I loved them but a turn in financial fortunes and some health issues forced a sale. I don't know if I will ever have a collection like this one again... some of them were customs made for me.

My all time favorite, a Mini I had custom made - I've tried to find her and buy her back. No luck.
