TP Mills - Post your Putter

Recommended Posts

In the late 90s and early 2000s Mills made putters for Mizuno’s pros and tour players. He’s even made putters for some of the executives at the time too.

You can ask David, but I’m pretty sure he won’t remember who it was made for. I’ve had 2 such putters pass my hands and he couldn’t remember.  Hand bent plumber neck and Mizuno stamp are so cool!

Thank you, I sent him an email but had the same thoughts about knowing who it was made for. The hand bent PN and Mizuno stamp are super cool for sure. The milling on the back is amazing too!

My collection of Mills. I rotate playing them all (they're way too nice and fun to sit of a shelf).

The Fleetwood | One | SoftTail I purchased through other WRXers and just recently worked with David to do the custom Nellie. Though its on the heavier side, the One may be the best feeling putter I have ever hit. I don't know what magic David puts into those heads but the feel is second to none across all brand IMO.

Cheers!

That's quite a rotation of gamers!

Impulse buy on EBay.  David confirmed he made it custom for Buddy Antonopoulos, the guy Greg Norman brought in to be the first pro at The Medalist Club.  Feels really nice although I am currently gaming a Mills Workshop III that I like.  Question for the group is game this, refinish it or just keep as is?

Anyone try to order a custom Mills lately? Curious about your experience.

Game it.   Workshops are the most underrated putters out there IMO

I ordered a custom Nellie about a month ago, $680 I believe out the door. Completed the Form online and David called me that night (not sure if he typically does because he said my email was bouncing back). He does seem understandably busy right now, as I caught him while he was at PGA National.

He was great to work with over the phone and simply needed my specs. I also emailed him design ideas from his gallery and what I liked (stamping/finish/face milling etc).

Turn around time was about 2-3 weeks.

Only drawback i found was his communication was bit inconsistent.  I'm not sure if he typically works over the phone but email was pretty non-existent for me, but that may have been an issue on my end.

Its far too light for me to game, i have been playing an oddessey O works black 2mcs, and a 3 ball white steel srt before that... i like a HEAVY mallet putter LOL

That said maybe the universe is trying to tell me to game a TP mills... saturday morning driving around i saw a putter sticking out of a dumpster... now i own a rusty spalding t.p.m. 5 as well as the 4 that i refinished 🤣🤣🤣

My latest Mills arrived earlier this week. The weight and balance of it is so good. Just unreal. Genuinely think it will be in the bag for years to come.

had a few things I was really specific about and left the rest(the stampings really) to David. Couldn’t be happier with it. Very cool old school vibes

Very nice - how long did it take to get made? Custom I'm assuming.

Anybody have any insight into what this putter might actually be? It looks like a Spalding TPM 12, but the angles are all sharper, proportions arentthe face dots are too large, the "T.P.M." stamp is angled and no number. No other stamping anywhere - at all, sole included - and the sight dot it an oval shape like the Mizunos had.

Well, I reached out to David back in November to test the waters on what I would be looking for, and to see if he could achieve it. Ended up fizzling out a little on my side, but I think I finally may pull the trigger on a stainless Ming with a slight swan plumbers neck to get the toe hang down a little. There are some gorgeous putters in here and i've been dying for a classic stainless blade. Still have a DD201 and a DH89 on my radar but i'm probably looking at something like:

-Ming head stainless

-Plumbers swan-neck

-Dixie grey finish

-Light circular milling & the classic + logo on the sweet-spot

-Few small stamping requests, but really just up to him!

-All white fill

-2.75 loft - 70 lie - 360g ish - 34.5"

I guess the only question I have, are all of his stainless putters this "German Swiss Stainless Steel"? I wasn't sure if that was a special request for more $, or what. I've seen the stamps on quite a few soles and may want something similar on mine if it applies. Thanks!

Currently in a driver predicament...

Taylormade Sim2 Ti 15.0°  |  Aldila Rogue Silver 110-MSI 70(X)

Cobra King Tec 19.0°  |  UST LIN-Q TSPX Black 85(X)

Titleist T250U 20.0° | KBS Tour Proto Hybrid 95(S+)

Srixon ZXi7 4i-PW 22°-46° |  KBS $-Taper 120(S)

RTX Raw(T) 51-56-60  |  KBS Tour 610 120(S)

I think all his putters are that same “Swiss German” stainless steel. I don’t really know what exactly that is, but he uses the same steel for them all. I don’t know if he currently has carbon offerings, but I was able to purchase a black carbon Flat T with a flow neck a few years ago. I should have kept that one (can say that about most of the Mills putters I owned…haha). This is interesting timing because I was planning to go back to a raised toe Mills putter myself this year. Something about the raised toe seems to help me just “putt” instead of worrying about aiming and straight lines, etc.

Didn’t you have a high toe Nellie with wings ?

did you ever game that?

apologies if that was not you.

I thought I read somewhere that German Stainless Steel is just a formula for the metals. So really it’s just a marketing tool for a particular mixture of steel.

It’s steel. My old man designed jet engines and when I asked him why GSS was special he had no idea wtf I was talking about 😂
