Asked for a custom Trad II just to my liking for like $700.

.... just to get a mail back that it's US shipping only - I'm from Europe. Disappointing I must say.

Anyone who can recommend other alternatives?  🤥

Either someone could reship it for you or find a shipping service that will ship to Europe for you.

Yeah thanks, but not sure if worth the hassle.

I went with Nordberg instead speaks my language and no custom dutys, win win 🙂

Alright... she's here!

First off, I love the lore behind David and the whole TP Mills brand. He is a sort this mystical guy to where you inquire about buying a putter, and maybe he lets you, maybe not haha. You just have to stay persistent with him. Craftsmanship looks great, and you can really tell this is old fashioned. It's all hand polished, corners softened, etc. As far as the stamping, I'm pretty picky, but I really like what I ended up with. I had mentioned the bowtie smiley on the neck which he followed through with!

Now for the nitpicks... In the cavity, the "Mills" script is a little double stamped, and double paint filled. I'm probably going to try and remove the paint from the thinner lines so they aren't as easy to spot, but that's just my OCD. I get that things like this come with the hand stamping territory and that's also a part of what makes it special. What makes is unique. Few other paint splotches here and there but a little acetone cleared those up. The only other thing is the stock chrome shaft is pretty heavily scratched about halfway up. Not too sure what happened there, but i'm probably gonna throw in a matte black TT shaft anyways, so that's not a problem. I had asked for an Iomic Pistol if possible as well, and it showed up with a SS 1.0 PT, but i'm not complaining haha. A little harder to source that one if you don't keep them on hand.

All in all, very satisfied and love this Ming shape. I usually go for a deep mill too so this definitely feels more firm. We'll see if she creeps into the bag over my OZ haha. Also, the last picture really shows off the torching on the Dixie Grey. Just lovely.

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

👍

Weird about the scratches on the shaft. That slight double stamping and non-perfect paintfill is common on many of these custom Mills putters. None of them are “perfect” because they’re made by him. I actually see imperfections on every boutique putter if I look close enough. I bet the sound and feel of yours is awesome. I don’t recall owning a Ming ever, but I’ve owned a bunch of trad 2s and the rolled bumpers have the best sound/feel of all the Mills putters.

Yep, feels great! Rolled probably 200 putts last night! Already reached out to David and he got back with me quick about the shaft. Not a big deal, I think something rubbed on it in either in shipping to me, or shipping to him. I seem to have misplaced my calipers, so i’m just waiting on his confirmation if it’s a .355 or .370 and i’ll throw one in! All in all, very happy. I’m just a stickler.

What does that procedure look like? Start with a Coke bath? Wire wheel? Brillo pad?

Going to get the old paint out first, quick acid dip to remove original oxide and most rust, evaluate what's left from there... Likely some light grinding (240g belt and/or fine surface conditioning belt) and filing depending on how much pitting is present.

Sounds like a good plan. You will have pitting so you’ll have to decide how perfect you want it.  Would weigh it often to determine just how aggressive you want to be. Generally these were 350 to 355 headweight.
