The Falls

I last minute decide to go out and play at The Falls yesterday......greens and fairways were in good shape. Tee boxes weren't very great. Of course me and my playing partner were 2 of the 4 that were on the course all afternoon. It really makes you wonder how the course is still open. Driving Range is only open for players who have a tee time, and they charge $10 for use of the range. Very nice course that gets no traffic. Ever. Not to mention the recent kiddie water park and all the condos out there. It is like a resort dream gone bad.

All things considered I got my butt kicked out there like always, but enjoyed it none the less. Its nice being able to drive twenty minutes to a well manicured course and play a round not having to worry about people in front, or behind you messing with pace of play.

The Falls is a great golf experience altogether. Very demanding course that seems to favor left to right players. Tight fairways that require precise drives for
strategic second shots to green. The greens have a lot of undulation...easily some of the toughest I've putted. Looking forward to playing there soon since the redo on #6 I believe. If I am under the Mendoza line after 18...I am happy!

The Falls used to be a great golf course....and always seemed to be in good shape. Bad ownership and now, really bad ownership has sort of put it on a path to self destruction. Hopefully, the family will take a lower number and sell it to someone who cares about golf.
Architect was a guy named Jay Reviere -- a really good guy who is one of those golf names that did far more than he is credited for.

Do they have food/beverage service again in the clubhouse? Last time I was there the only food/beverage service was at the halfway house by #10 tee box. For a place to be considered a "resort" they have to have some kind of food service. I have been to Falls many times in the past. The course is always challenging and most times has been in good shape. Just a pain to have to drive somewhere once you are there to find food.

no, I don't believe. I play the Falls once every couple months at the least and all I have ever seen open is the little halfway house by #10....And the open times on that is spotty. Nice course, but the amenities aren't very great, and they want to charge an arm and a leg for everything that they do have.

I absolutely love this course. About 20 minutes from the house making it the closest full 18. Looking to get out there soon if it ever stops raining

I played it 2 saturdays ago after all the rain, and the course was still in decent shape. Some drives were plugging in the fairway, but not horrible.......BUT usually pace of play is great there, but their must have been a family tournament or bach party, or something. the round took around 5 hours or so. usually I rarely see more than ten people on the course.

what I have always feared happening is now a reality. According to the facebook page the Falls will officially close down on Sunday the 15th of May.

Sad to see it go. Nice course...enjoyed several buddies weekends there. Always thought it would be at risk financially given the low traffic levels.

Just really poor management. If you didn't bring food with you the options were few and far between. I always loved the course. It was always fun but difficult. The greens could get very fast. Very classic locker rooms that were always empty. Maybe a new buyer will come in and make profitable. I feel for those that purchased timeshares.

Agreed about the management. Played it once and never went back because of management and policy. The course was great but didn't like their policy about replay. A group(4) of us one weekday went out there on a spur of the moment. First time there and we live in houston so about 1 1/2 hour drive. Again, we went out on a weekday. Course was not busy at all. Maybe a couple of other groups out there. We finished our round and enjoyed the track so much that we wanted to play another round. Now most if not all course we know of only charges cart fees or at least a reduced price. But not this empty course on a weekday with hardly anyone else there. They wanted to charge us full price for the replay round. We just packed up and drove home. I know,their course their policy, but come on. If that's not bad management to forgo money when no one else is on the course and try to charge us full rate for a replay round , then I don't know what is.
