Best Long Underwear for Winter Golf

Getting to be longjohn season around here. What's warm and comfortable, and not too restricting?

I wear flannel lined trousers. I can't stand long johns.

I really like Coldpruf Platinum! They look like a typical long john, poly inner layer and poly/wool blend outer layer....very comfy, warm, and durable. I have 2 pair and wear them a lot, spring/fall/winter golf....and when the courses close for walks when it is cold. And they wont break the bank!

Under Armour makes good ones. They come in different thicknesses to give you a few choices. Very thin and not restricting at all. Good luck and stay warm.

UA fitted are great, the infrared tech really works.

I have the base fitted coldgear, also have 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 bottoms. They each have their purpose, but all are excellent choices.

I have a set of silk long underwear that I bought from LL Bean. They are extremely light weight (almost nothing at all) and very warm.

This always confuses me when it comes to base layers. Which is the warmest: UA Coldgear 3.0/4.0, which I believe is poly/elastin, some type of high end merino wool, or as mentioned above, silk ? I have started playing in temps that are low to mid 30's and strong northerly winds?

I have had a pair of Patagonia ljs since I used to think I could hike in the white mountains, that was 15 years ago - they still are the warmest things I have ever worn.

I prefer natural material next to the skin, and [b]Icebreaker[/b] is merino wool.

I wear Patagonia Capilene long underwear tops and bottoms when it's cold out. It's made in 3 different weights for varying temperatures and they fit perfectly. Not too tight and not too loose. Priced fairly as well. You can find it on their website or at any high quality outdoors store.

Always on the look out. I hate compression gear. I know cold weather under garments need to be fitted but I want them to be as loose as possible and still keep me warm.

This goes for the bottoms and even more so for the tops.

Try to find a pair made from Merino wool or Cashmere. I have had mine for over eight years. Gentle wash only, line dry. The UA cold gear has worked nicely, (tops only), under a shirt and light weight sweater.

I learned very early that cold weather golf is not a fashion show. I go with a Costco bought jogging suit (hoody) under my rain gear. Warm, comfortable and good to ~35°F,

Throw on the UA 4.0 tops and bottoms, can throw on a pair of softshell/rain pants and a Mizuno Windlite, good to the 30's.

You need to get in the summer though, 4.0's run $85 per piece, I grabbed the set for $80 2 summers ago.

I like Smartwool base layers NTS 150 or 250 depending on how much warmth you need. Very pricey though. Need to buy them on sale.

Silk is the way to go. It is the thinest, warmest material you can find. Zero restriction and toasty warm.

Just checked the UA base layers-- the current versions are all in crew? I have an older in a turtle neck, which IMO really helps. A warm neck is right there with hands and feet. Zippers against skin are no good for me.

I have some UA ones that are warm.

I also have a lighter pair from REI that aren't as tight. They are the REI house brand and they have been good.

somewhere along the way I picked up an UA top, and it keeps me warm, and wicks the sweat away nicely, but it's so darn tight. I'm a medium generally, sometimes a large depending upon how clothes are cut. This says Large, but every second I wear it, I know it's on me, and I can't wait to get home and take it off.

This!!! Best or one of best over years for outer wear is Nike Therma fit....undies and then outer layer and ready to go.

The compression tops and bottoms are ridiculously tight. I go fitted with all top and bottoms and I find they fit pretty comfortably and aren't restricting. If you start getting into the base 3.0 and 4.0 it better be pretty cold. I find them great for wearing when below 30 if you aren't doing much activity like sitting at a football game. They are way to warm to golf in if walking in anything above 40. I actually wore a base 4.0 skiing once in 20 degree weather and was way to hot. It is some impressive stuff, but make sure it's cold enough.

Silk is said to be very warm. Sells big in Europe and used by Mt. climbing, rock climbing and skiing fans.

I have a couple pair. Some UA thermals tops and bottoms, an adidas climawarm compression top, and an old pair of polar bear (can't remember if that's the brand or not) two layer capilene top and bottom from a snowboard shop. Love them all, the capilene seem to be the warmest, followed by adidas then UA. The UA I think because it's their infrared which uses your body heat. If you're moving around...toasty. not? Not as warm. Love having options though. Really like the bottoms of the UA and the compression of the adidas. The UA top is a crew, not quite compression but around 45 to 50...rock on. Adidas for below 45..and the capilene for the "why the hell am I out here" days...

For the tops I go with UA. I have two different weights depending on the temperature. I get the bottoms from the local REI camping store. Again I get two different weights to match the weather.
