Custom Scotty paint fill

I love my Scotty and wanted to change the paint fill that I had done at the Padgett Learning Center in Pinehurst NC. I had seen a sample from Anthony who does the custom work of a patriotic theme and really liked it but didn't have a grip to match the theme. I kept my old theme of black and red that Anthony did for me. Well, Super Stroke had some limited edition Veterans Day grips that were perfect for what I wanted so I had Anthony square me away. The pictures here are the work that he did.

 

I am more than happy with the work that he did to give me something that is truly custom for me. The rate that Anthony charged was $50. He uses regular model paint to do the work. He stripped all of the original paint off the putter to do the work.

 

I know there will be some that don't like it and will leave comments on my thread. My intent here was to give ideas for those that wanted or had been thinking about doing some sort of custom paint fill some new ideas. I have attached what my old custom paint fill looked like along with the wedge work that Anthony also did for me.

 

The bottom line is that this may not be for everyone but I am EXTREMELY happy with the quality of the work that Anthony did.

Pretty cool how he did the flag on the Scotty Cameron on the face.

Did he do the stamping on your bumpers as well, or just the paint job?

He did the stamping on the bumpers for me too. He did the wedge stamping too. I wanted them to have an alternating color scheme which I think turned out great on the Vokey's. I have no idea how he did the flag. That was what turned me on to do the red, white, and blue theme in the first place was how he did the flag on the front. I assume it was with tape. I need to ask him the next time that I see him.

$50 covered everything for the putter to include the stamping. When I bought the wedges, the stamping and paint fill was included in the price of the wedges ($129 each).

What's not to love? Looks like excellent work and at a great price! I'm a big fan and user of patriotic paintfill schemes.

My only question is how does the model paint hold up to the wear and tear of tapping down ball marks, especially if the greens have any topdressing or sand particles?

I had the black and red theme (in the pictures above) done this past winter and it was holding up just fine. I have always made sure that I wipe off the putter after using the putter anyway before putting it back into the head cover to guard against scratches. I just liked the red, white, and blue theme after seeing what Anthony did to another putter. I had been waiting to find the right grip for the theme and finally did. I bought two of them too so when this one gets worn out, I can replace it.

the flag theme on the front is pretty sweet. it would look even better on a black putter to help the white stand out a bit more but it still looks nice on your putter. looks like for $50 you got some pretty nice work.

It's funny that you say that. I had the black Newport and loved it until the paint started to wear off on the toe going in and out of the cover. I talked to my local guy about warranted paint and Scotty (of course) wouldn't cover it. That shouldn't come as a surprise since they don't make a black putter any more.

I sold the black Newport and got this Newport.

I wish that I kept it though because the guy that did my paint fill did a black putter. He removed all of the black paint with a Dremel but left some of the black in the nooks and crannies of the putter. It looked SO cool. Especially since he painted everything black and blue. I loved it. I wish I had pictures to share but I don't.

I did my own paint job and have zero issues with tamping, sand, salt, or on/off of the cover.
I used Tamiya paint and it looks like the day I painted.
I'd be surprised if there is any paint wear, assuming proper surface prep.

This is mine. These photos were taken when complete.

 

Personally done in my basement.

 

It still looks like this today and paint is solid.

 

Occasionally I may buff the sole with rouge to get the luster back, but that is all.

Great post and putter (wedges too), OP. I've done a R,W&B scheme in the past and it turned out great. Lot of fun to mix it up here and there.

Oh yeah - and it was testor's model paint. Never once heard anything negative from one if the many who've bought a putter from me... I've been told to people who know paint that enamel (testor's is emanel), not acrylic is best to use because enamel is not water soluble like acrylic. If one does not maintain their putter, like many do not, acrylic would not be best...

Good advice, I worked on mine for several weeks using different paint colors and paint brands/types.
I finally got the paint and finish the way I had hoped for.

And quite frankly, it was theuraputic and frustrating at the same time. More therapeutic in the end.

If it's black, depending what kind of paint, especially translucent, it helps if you paint the areas white first. In my experience, it helps most colors come through more how you would be expecting them to.
