What should I buy - with or without SLOPE ?

Bushnell Pinseeker 1500...with or without slope ?
I'm contemplating what to buy - the Bushnell 1500 Pinseeker with slope or the one without slope. I don't play in any tournaments - only for fun with friends and family.

I also own a GPS Unit and for this reason I might go for the one witout slope - because this will resemble the GPS unit the most. If I do buy the one with slope, I will always think of using the one with slope if on a downhill or uphill lie (I play a lot of courses with slopes) and will never use my GPS unit.

But I prefer the GPS, because it will work faster on the course (all the courses I play are already mapped) - but in cloudy conditions the GPS will not work as precisely as in cloudless weather - therefore I will buy both a GPS and a Laser range finder (I know, do I really need this - NO, but do we really need two sets of irons and do we really need to change golf equipment 2-3 times a year  )

My plan is to only use the Bushnell when I play in cloudy weather or in the rain - knowing that it's waterproof. If I get the one with built in slope, I think I would use it all the time slowing down the pace of the game.

None of the courses I play officially permit the use of range finders - so basically I'll violate the regulations no matter if I use the one with slope or the one without slope as it is today.

But later on this year, I do think the NON Slope edition will be permitted to use on several of the courses I play.
This would mean I might be sorry I got the one with slop and not the Tounament edition without slope......what to do ?

What I would is first - buy the Bushnell w/slope. Next play a course with some slope in it - downhill and uphill. When playing these shots guess the total yardage including slope. Then use your Bushnell and see the actual distance. Do this enough times and you'll train your eye to gauge the total distance needed to play a shot without a Bushnell w/slope.

In other words, return the Bushnell after you've gotten used to it.

From the Speed Cart Thread Yesterday:

I like to walk the course and feel like a brave Scottish golfer, when I walk 18 holes straight - this is the way golf was meant to be played

A brave Scottish soldier with laser guidance and a disregard for the rules.

(Sorry...it was just too ironic. I couldn't resist.)

Great advice

This was exactly what I had in mind. Using the Slope feature and get wiser and wiser and learn to read slopes more precisely without it later on.

First off I would not reccomend buying a product that is illegal to use in tournament play, wether you play in them or not. In my mind I see that as cheating. Im not telling you to not buy something, but just sharing my honest opinion.

I also have to disagree with you, when you say using it will slow down play. Since I have had mine I have found that it dramatically increases the pace of play. No more pacing yardages and looking for yardage plates, just aim and shoot and you got your yardage. I don't have an extremly steady hand either, and it's still very easy to use.

Which one of the laser range finders do you currently have ?

Thanks for your opinions so far - please keep them coming

I'll probably buy the Bushnell 1500 Pinseeker Tournament edition or the new Callaway LR 1200 Tour, which is based on the Nikon Monarch 1200 Hunting range finder with specs much similar to the Bushnell Pinseeker Tournament edition.

Anyone know if the Callaway LR 1200 will feature new additions and extras, the cheaper Nikon Monarch 1200 does not have ?

I went back and forth on this a month ago, Slope or No-Slope. I ended up going with the Pinseeker Tournament Edition. While I don't play competitive golf now, if I ever do in the future then I would hate to have a useless Rangefinder.

Also, as someone posted above, if you are going to play by the rules, you have to play by all the rules.
