How many golf carts have you been in that had worn brakes---where you literally had to stand on the pedal to stop the cart? Around 10% for me.

 

Doesn't make a difference in Kansas, but around cliffs...........

Maybe I am going to hell for saying this, but was he not in a GOLF CART! He traveled down a 25-ft embankment and then over the cliff. Couldn't he jump out? Horrible story, but he went 65 strong and died on a golf course (kind of)...we should all be so lucky.

"Veered off the path....". Sounds like a very real possibility of some sort of medical issue. And if your cart is running away downhill and your brakes are no good...how hard is it to just bail? Golf carts aren't that hard to get out of. Lawyers probably already swarming looking for the deepest pockets.

Anyone played Wolf Creek out side Las Vegas? You have to sign a death waiver before they give you a cart as it is all cliffs. They say several guys dided building the course and I can tell you it was dangerous with the brakes screaming all the way around. Gorgeous Views though and allot of fun but definetly dangerous.

That is pretty unfortunate. I think I probably would have jumped, but I bet it happened so fast he didn't know what was going on until it was too late. Could you imagine being the rest of the group? That would probably make me a walker for life.

There's a course called Bully Pulpit here. It's probably the nicest course in NoDak. It has 3 holes wich are referred to as "The Badlands." They're so steep and outrageously dangerous you actually have to use a cart. The cart paths are nice and everything but it still would be pretty easy to slip of the path a couple feet and go atumbling. . .

Lake Arrowhead in Georgia is like that too...they have to airlift people out of there several times for driving carts off cliffs...so i've heard. Having played there its not hard to believe.

The RTJ course, Capitol Hill has 3 18's and I got to play 2 a few weeks ago. If you see in this link the first hole on the Judge from the tee to the fairway is a 200ft drop, the cart path is quite steep. The northern courses of the RTJ were similar all with good elevation changes from tee to fairway. I'm glad all the cars we had had excellent brakes, none were soft.

I have played this course its about 45 minutes away. I wonder where it could of happened?

Hole #2- left side embankment. I actually played it yesterday afternoon, and there were still police and stuff around. We looked at where he went over and I think he must have froze or had a medical issue because there was a good 40 feet of gentle embankment before the edge of the cliff- any sane person would have jumped off well before the cart went over.

 

Also, I'm not sure how he got the cart over the curb because its a mini-wall - as the article states its like 8 inches high. As an above poster stated, at least he died on a course in an exciting way and made the news- we should all be so lucky.

 

In cases like this, I'm often reminded of my dad's favorite saying: "It's not the fall that kills you, its the sudden stop." :tongue:

I'm thinking the guy had a heart attack or something. I mean 40 feet to jump out or stop is plenty of time.
