dpark
Rekindling an old thread. Saw Ari's posts in the overrated course thread and I got confused seeing FairwayFred with non-scratch clubs in the signature. Thought my memory betrayed me on usernames. DId a quick search and found this thread. Was very sad to see Scratch go away. Loved the wedges a lot and still have great memories of getting fit by Zach and Jon at Emerald Valley almost 10 years ago... Still have an STI-EBN lob wedge. The rest have all been worn out and donated to the first tee or sold on ebay... (amazing the folks out there that still know Scratch and buy them on the 'bay) Quote Old stuff: 1962 Tommy Armour AT2W Driver 1953 Macgregor M65W EOM 3 wood 1978 H&B PowerBilt Citation 4 wood 1984 Ben Hogan Apex PC 2-E 1968 Wilson Dual Wedge 1964 Acushnet O-SET M6S Bullseye Putter New stuff Titleist TSR3 10* driver (Matrix HD6 s-flex) Titleist TSR2 18* fairway wood (Matrix Code-8 s-flex) Adams A2P 20* hybrid (Rombax 8D07HB s-flex) Titleist 716 MB irons 4-PW (Hogan Apex 4 shafts soft-stepped) Callaway Mack Daddy wedges 52, 56, 60 (DG S200) Odyssey ProType 9 putter

FairwayFred
Shame on me for letting this thread lapse so badly! Some fantastic HO'ING has been missed. Let's see. I ended up bagging that M2 for a while. Then I got an Epic w an Evo 3 757 S that I had to replace with a Japanese Epic Star cuz I love me a non adjustable hosel! Played that most of last year which for me is a LONG time! I've tested a whole lot of drivers this off-season. M3, M4, Rogue, Rogue SZ, Jbeam ZY7, Jbeam 435 Blackout, OnOff Labospec 358 and a few others. The winner has been the Jbeam 435 Blackout which I was able to order exactly to spec and foamed from the factory. I love the traditional shape and all black head with nothing on the crown. It's also the best performer. Shaft is Kuro Kage XT 50. Most of last year I gamed a 12* Tour Issue SLDR Mini Driver, 16.5* Tour Issue DF M2 and an old 20* Kasco KC103 all w Diamana Thump shafts. There was some HO'ING amongst the first 2 but the Kasco has been a staple in and out of my bag since the late 90s. Testing again this spring and in my bag now 14* Aeroburner Mini Driver Tour Issue w Diamana B, 16.5* Tour Edge Exotics EX10 w Diamana Thump and 21* Titleist Tour Issue 915F w Diamana Thump. I also have the matching 16.5* Titleist Tour Issue 915F but the Tour Edge is in the bag. Since those TMBs I've played a lot of sets of irons. Srixon 745s, PXG 0311, PXG 0311T, Yonex N1 MB, some of my Scratch irons, Mizuno MP5 retail, an awesome set of Yoro handmade MP5s, an even more amazing set of BB&FCo Don White set of handmade custom MP5 type muscle backs and a set of Taylor Made 790. The Yonex got alot of bag time until the MP5s then the Yoros then the DW set which stayed in the bag until the TM 790s came out and then I split time between the 790s and the DWs or sometimes a mixed bag of both until I got my current set which is 4-6 Taylor Made 790s and 7-P National Custom Works Don White hand made MBs with a muscle shaped like the back of the 790s. PURE. Shafts are Accra icwt 95 w a 105 in my PW (which is stamped E) I replaced those TM wedges with a couple hand ground National Custom Works (BB&FCo at the time) Don White customs. 52/58. Still in the bag. I retired my old Scratch/Ingles putter and replaced it with a copy made by Ian Raybon. Amazing piece of work with a center section made of AlBz and heel and toe made of SS. Also played with Bettinardi Inovai 5.0 and a Cameron 5.5M. And have 3 more Raybons on the way. I'm sure I missed quite a few instances of blatant HOism but that's a pretty good run down off the top of my head. So WITB right now: 10.5* Jbeam 435 Blackout w Kuro Kage XT 50 14* TM Aeroburner Tour Mini Driver w Diamana B 60 16.5* Tour Edge Exotics EX10 4w w Diamana Thump 70 21* Titleist Tour 915F 7w w Diamana Thump 70 4-6 TM 790 w Accra icwt 957-9 National Custom Works Don White 790 shaped MB w Accra icwt 95P,52,58 National Custom Works Don White wedges with Accra icwt 105Ian Raybon AlBz/SS Ari shape heavy mallet All my grips are the new Lamkin Crossline 1150 which is a non taper grip that is 1" longer than normal. Last note on lengths. Driver - 44 1/2"Mini/4w/7w - 42 1/4"4/5i - 37 5/86/7i - 37 1/48/9i - 36 5/8P/52/58 - 36 Ive been playing with a pair length set of irons since I got my set of BB&FCo DWs. I even built my TM 790s this way. I really love this setup. The 3 fwy woods setup at 42.25" really seems to work also. I find I get more consistency with 6 different length clubs in my bag rather than 13. Pics to come. It's not an optical illusion the face is really deep in the toe. I've never seen a driver w such a high toe before. It seems to produce exceptional ball speed and launch conditions on that high toe miss though and looks amazing at address. I attached a better pic of the face profile though for some reason I can't get it to show up normal it keeps showing up sideways. It's all I can do to resist ordering another bag. Scott can do anything, and he is great to work with. I tried for years to avoid going down the JDM driver rabbit hole but finally gave in this off-season. I got a Jbeam 435 Blackout in trade, hit it on Trackman and that was the end of me. Easily beat out the 2018 US drivers I had including the new Mizuno, Rogue, Rogue SZ and all the new TM M series drivers. I have a strong preference for plain crown drives that look small so JDM drivers are a natural fit for me. I also believe that Japanese golf club manufacturing is superior to manufacturing from any other country. Appreciate it! That's from the Royal North Devon Golf Club in Westward Ho! England, one of my favorite courses and a place where I am an overseas member. There actually used to be 2 of those signs but one was lost to the ocean in a horrible storm over the winter. May it rest in peace. Completely agree on Eliott. IMO they make the best bags on the market. I have a few MacKenzie bags and they don't come close IMO. The unlimited options Scott offers is just the icing on the cake. I try ever day to resist ordering another one haha.
