Before you worry about that you need to eliminate the head and eyes rotating and following the club going back.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

Dude you are so right, I need an electric shock trigger or this part of my game i just can't seem to embed looking at the ball.

Will focus 110% tomorrow on this, i need to find a mental thought for it.

To make Daniel feel better that this is all too common.

Had a guy today come for a first lesson...

"I am hitting massive blocks with an occasional snap hook. Think I might have too much secondary tilt coming into impact, shifting my path right and I also don't think my right hip is clearing well enough, so I am trying to get the right hip to come out higher to decrease secondary, clear better and move path left.

First swing he sets up and hits a high perfect draw and shakes his head in disgust.

He sets up to the second one and I said to stop and hold. I walk over to him, pick up his right foot and move it out about 3" and said, ". Don't say anything, just hit it."

Same ball flight, except not 20 yards right.

Bewildered he looked at me and said, "Aimed right and ball too far back in stance?"

I nodded and he stripped balls for the next hour and we laughed the whole time.

Played my best golf with that move. Still, to this day, I don't know why/when I started, or why/when I stopped. My guess is I got used to looking at my backswing position in the reflection on the glass behind me at the range I worked...but I have no idea why I stopped or when.

I had the exact same issue when I did my first online lesson with Monte. Monte called it the Mike Weir move. I believe it had worked its way into my swing after trying to check the position of the club on its way back. A concerted effort is needed to get rid of this move. It will more than likely come back if your not careful, so be mindful of it. Good luck, and if you need anything just ask or pm.

Regards Shane.

Not a mental thought issue primarily unless the intention has within it a self correcting attribute. It's more an awareness issue between where you are statically, where the instrument locates dynamically relative to where you were statically, and where the ball will be headed. You don't need to see in order to know!

Why ?

A similar motion worked well enough for Jack Nicklaus :)

Turning the head also allows for a free shoulder turn.

Try setting up with your head facing left / targetward and attempt to make a shoulder turn :/

I know you didn't suggest that, but it's an extreme exaggeration to see the effect of the head position on the shoulder turn

What Nicklaus did and what the OP did are two completely different things. Nicklaus' eyes stayed parallel to the target line. In addition, cherry picking 1-2 great players who have a certain move and saying that makes it ok is never a winning proposition.

Yeh ok guys, but as Monte says...Feel is not real.

Remember that you only need to keep your eyes focused on the ball - not your head, so you can pre-turn your head a bit if you want. I had the same issue (actually worse than you believe it or not) since I started golfing again - was even able to catch lightning in a bottle and post a few in the 70s, but then the very next round I just as easily could post a 90 or 100 - definitely not fun golf. Now, as I use longer clubs I pre-turn my head a bit while keeping my eyes focused on the ball - over time I find I need to pre-turn my head less and less as my setup improves.

I used to play monthly with some gents and I drove one of them a bit crazy with the fact that I had lower scores than him, but was never looking at the ball - he was amazed that I was even able to hit it considering my head would turn above my right shoulder, looking into the sky.

I wear specs as well...maybe this is why I can't move the head and keep eyes straight.

TBH i'm probably now keeping the eyes on the ball, the feeling though of keeping the head still over the ball gives me better awareness of where the club is, and a better feel on the turn.

Having had to phase into reading glasses I can appreciate how much people without glasses take it for granted (myself included). You don't have to actually see the ball in detail, just be aware of it within your vision. So even if it is a white blurry blob, that is all you need.
