Bermuda-Underrated as a golf vacation destination

I don't think many people look at Bermuda as a golf destination but they should. We decided to visit on a whim last week and booked a trip from 12/27-1/2. During this time we booked Mid Ocean, Port Royal and Tucker's Point. Some thoughts on each below:

My rankings:

1. Mid Ocean-I've mentioned before that I've played a lot of golf courses in a lot of places but this place is simply special. Definitely in my top 10 non-links golf courses that I have ever played and possibly top 5. Even though it is only a little over 6400 yards it plays quite a bit longer due to wind and elevation changes. So many classic holes but the Cape, Biarritz and Redan really stand out.

2. Port Royal-This is a newer course that hosted the Grand Slam of Golf for a few years. So much better than I expected. A weak first hole and then a collection of great ones.

3. Tucker's Point-Not great but very easy if you are looking for a slight break from the challenge provided by Port Royal and Mid Ocean. We only played it because we were staying at the Rosewood Tucker's Point

 

My significant other's rankings were slightly different. She preferred Port Royal over MOC because MOC was simply a little too difficult for her.

 

The weather and the people were outstanding and we both agreed that we'd be coming back. A simple 1.5 hour flight from JFK had us in our hotel room 6 hours after walking out of our apartment in Manhattan. If you like being on a beautiful island and playing wonderful golf courses, definitely consider Bermuda for your next trip.

Visited Bermuda 2 years ago for a family vacation during thanksgiving and took my clubs with me. We stayed at the Fairmont Southhampton. I booked Port Royal using golfnow for $75 (steal!) and there was hardly anyone on the course. Also played Turtle Bay which is a Par 3 course on the hotel location.. that was fun 18 holes as well.

I agree, it is a good golf destination and easy on the wallet as well, compared to some of the other popular destinations.

Huge fan of Bermuda. In addition to awesome golf, some of the very nicest people in the world!

I was told it was in the 60s but I didn't go in.
