Great read, Obee. Makes me question whether it'd even be worth asking if you wanted to get in a round the next time I was in town as I don't quite have the star status.

So did you keep notes through the entire round, or do you have uncanny recollection of your (and their) golf rounds?

This story is obviously fake. As many will attest on WRX that there is no possible way a scratch golfer can even sniff a pro in a match. Its impossible I tell ya. Cant happen. Nice try Obee. Not buying it. Obviously if this happened "Mickelson" and "Fowler" if those are their real names would have beat you by approx. 37 strokes.

The pros would have only 2 putted 3 greens all day and would have hit 390 drives.

Again...nice try but WRX people know.

Jeff, you're forgetting the 40 yd advantage Obee had per hole. Put them on the same tees and see what happens. Obee and Phil are basically the same age, so .... A little OT, but it was mentioned. I was at a tourney 3 or 4 years ago, big rain delay, they were trying to get players going to try and finish the round. Players scrambling around, and I was leaving. Rickie was walking in front of me, inside the ropes. A young kid, 11-12? was outside the ropes, had on the Puma gear, flat brim and all. Rickie notices the kid, goes over, talks to him briefly, autographs his hat, gives him a fist bump and tells him to hit it great. Took Rickie maybe five minutes, and I guarantee the kid will remember that gesture forever.

Phil is actually 45 years old. I'm sure if he was 48, like I am, I could hang with him from the same tees...

I assume it's his home course, Bear Creek, in Murrieta. Rickie is from Murrieta and was probably home for the holidays.

But I merely speculate. :dntknw:

No notes, just really good recall. If I had done this write up a day or two after the round, I would've remembered every single shot. After two weeks, I missed a couple of them.

Very impressive powers of recollection. I can barely remember if I put my pants on each morning.

(For the record, I had to look down as typed that, and fortunately, I DID remember to put on my keks this morning. Which is just as well, as I was standing up talking in front of 50 people not 10 minutes ago)

Yeah, the people on WRX who post after the US Open how they'd shoot 78 at the course when the field average was 77 are far more realistic.

Good job Obee. I knew the story and stayed on the sidelines as this thread developed.

Obviously its' better for Obee to leave the course name out of it, so lets' respect that.

One thing I know though, the par fives were a big advantage for the pros length, but on many

of the par fours, I would imagine the approach shots weren't that much different?

Good story!

so ive thought up some questions.... Did Phil play all his normal clubs ...as in did he use the Phrankenwood , the 3 deep, a callaway driver or another brand ? callaway ball? You guys drive carts ? if so who rode with who? which putter? just curious ...especially ball and whether he might use a different brand driver... I think what a guy plays when in his "off" time would probably tell you how he really feels about the stuff his oem has him play on TV...

This being GolfWRX, I would also like to reiterate bladehunter's question above, and also ask if Rickie was playing the King Cobra?

Also, if you are looking at the strokeplay score, based on the following, don't you sort of win?

PHIL: LONNNNNG drive down the middle. 250ish, playing 270 uphill and he takes out a 3-wood and tries to hit a cut in there, but he shuts the face down a bit and hits it left. The ball catches the cart path and bounces over the street and OB. He has a big indie with one of my buddies who made bogey, so he goes back, takes a drop, and hits another shot long and right into deep rough and decides to pick up. DOUBLE-BOGEY, EVEN

You gave him a double bogey, but perhaps he would have made a triple? I don't know how deep the "deep rough" was, but I'm thinking of "hack it out if you can stuff" (like links courses at The Open). So in a way, you're sort of level :superman:

Of course, this being Phil, he probably would have pitched in out of the deep rough for a par, and expertly tipped his hat.

I normally don't read a lot on here and just spew at the pie hole but you had me from start to end.... and now I am speechless.

What a great day. To play with tour pros around here you need to pony up 10k and sometimes you just get a few holes with them.

ETA: since Phil likes to talk golf and equipment, did you happen to ask him what he would be playing if he wasn't able to get paid to play?

Come on. No one is going to call them out for playing as a fivesome? ;)

Awesome writeup.

Why would anyone care... its a private club that allows that level of play on "MONDAY". I am sure, nobody in that group was nearly as slow as many on Golfwrx.

Rickie rode with Phil. My two buddies rode together. I rode solo.

I didn't look at Phil's bag much, but seemed to be all Callaway clubs. Wedges were the Mac Daddies(?).

Rickie was all Cobra. Didn't really talk equipment much. Was too busy grinding!!! LOL

One thing that comes out in my mind is that it was an unfair bet 3 of you vs 2 top pro's .. even w the distance advantage. 4 for 2 would have been better

I lost a match like this vs Gary Koch back in the early 90's .. by 1. 4 college guys vs Gary and a CDN tour player .. though we played the same decks

Being a young punk, I signed the 20 I gave him, he didn't like that it was a CDN bill
