Awesome performance from Jordan! There definitely seemed like an air of inevitability once he took the front in Friday and so it was. Got to love the way way he just seems to be able to put the foot down whenever someone seems like they might make a run at him.

Got to laugh at people putting Rory down as a result. The guy had 2 months of no golf last year and still won 4 times around the world. He'll be fine this year.

Noticed Speith had a graphite design shaft in his 3 iron looked like a tour ad di can anyone confirm this?

I'm about to try the Jordan Speth DI trick in my Mizuno h5 2 iron. It is either a 95 or 105 DI hybrid shaft that he has the tip tappered to fit the iron. I ordered a 105x that should be here this week. Can't wait to try it.

He's always been a streaky putter. It's one of the reasons why I don't think he'll ever win a green jacket. I honestly think he would be completely happy with a Phil type career.

He's already won 4 majors before Mickelson won his first one. Phil also never got to number 1, Mcilroy has been top for 95 weeks, the 4th most in history.

Was it my imagination or did Spieth hang with Brooks every time they pulled driver? Seemed he was within 10 yards or ahead. Maybe Spieth being a short knocker won't hurt him as much as the pundits have claimed in the past.

Agreed, feel like all week whoever Spieth was with he was always on par if not ahead on the drives.

This could become the golden era of golf with so many talented players pushing each other to higher standards.

Spieth

Day

Rory

Fowler

Watson

Koepka

D. Johnson

Reed

Rose

Stenson

And so many more...

A Tiger and Phil resurgence would be the cherry on top

The level of talent is really impressive, with many on that list still chasing their first major championship. I would be shocked if Fowler and Reed do not win a major in the next three years.

For veteran guys still chasing their first major, guys like Kuchar, Snedeker and Hass, that window is really closing fast (if not already closed).

Spieth isn't a short knocker. He just isn't Rory or Bubba long.

I kinda laugh when the announcers says he's short off the tee. I thought he's above the middle of the pack (280-290). I've seen him hit some 320 drives a couple of times. Jordan's long game is something to behold though. Besides, I thought he said he's starting to focus on his fitness more to pick up a few yards here and there.

Ever since Rickie made the switch to Butch, he's sneaky long off the tee.

He was 78th last year at 291. 300 yards get you into the Top 25 on tour.

As for Rickie, he has always been a little long, but now there is nothing wasted in that swing. Everyone makes a big deal about Justin Thomas being a big hitter and not being very big, but Rickie is only 5'7".

Jordan hits it plenty long, it's not like he's getting raped out there.

I was joking when I applied the "short knocker" moniker. I always thought 290 was pretty good. Never understood the talking heads and their worries about his length.

But when I saw he was paired with Brooks I still expected to see Jordan hitting approaches first all day from 30 yards back. Didn't even happen.

There are nearly an infinite number of more accurate and sensitive words that you could have used than "rape."

Spieth hits his irons longer than his driver compared to Tour average. He's working on getting a bit more distance in his driver, but that club is certainly not holding him back. I love the kid, but the "we" terminology is getting old (use it at times, not all the time) and I find it remarkable how rare it is that he's noticeably happy with his shots. If it's a bad shot he'll yell at himself. If it's average he'll yell slightly less than his bad shots. If it's a great shot he'll look at the shot as if he just missed it. He expects perfection everytime. The mark of a champion I guess.

Length is hardly an issue for Spieth when he can more or less hit every par 5 in two. The fact that he eagled a hole that was 660 yards in length says it all.

When it really mattered on the last hole in the US Open last year, he hit a perfect wood shot that was actually closer than more or less everyone who hit long irons into that green bar Dustin Johnson. He hit a career shot and ended up blowing it anyway.

Something Spieth does so well that is overlooked is that he smashes the hotspot on his driver 100% of the time. Patrick Reed is around 119mph in club speed but has one of the lowest smash factors on tour. When you maximize your slower speed and constantly put the ball where you want, you compete. Then you putt better than everyone. It's not rocket science.

A bag of left-handed junk.

Really. I had to laugh at the "Phil type of career" reference. Rory has already had more than a Phil type of career, and he's just entering his prime.

My reading comprehension skill must be off this morning. He has already had more than a Phil type career? He is 1 major and 31 wins behind! Will he pass him on majors? Probably. But not guaranteed. Will he pass him on wins? Very very unlikely imo.

OK, you got me. I'll admit I was a bit over-enthusiastic there, so let me try it again:

I think Rory is well on his way to having much more than a "Phil type of career." It is very likely he'll rack up 10 majors and at least 50 worldwide titles. He has already won money titles and Player of the Year honors, something Phil never accomplished. Additionally, Phil never became the game's #1.

I gave the like and then saw the "likely 10 and 50" part. But you did say worldwide not PGA tour so it could happen. I really doubt the 10 more than the 50. I will be surprised is he gets past 6 or 7. As to Phil-he has never been my favorite player, seems like there are Tiger guys and Phil guys and I was a Tiger guy during that time. But he racked up 42 wins and 5 majors but had the misfortune of going up against the Tiger era. The couple years Woods was off changing his swing Mickelson ran into Duval and Singh buzzsaw years. In a few years guys on wrx will likely be writing that Rory won in a down era between Tiger and Spieth/Day.
