Back to Reed, I thought he was out there with his original Top 5 comment, but caught way too much grief over it. His international team match play performances made him someone I enjoy watching. Tough cookie.

Its funny..... His comment was a little premature and seemed very arrogant. My concern was his comment was premature that was it. His skill was displayed that year, but many players have had a good year then hit the tubes. I cannot disagree at all his Match play performance as a rookie was outstanding with his partner Speith truly a site to see.

At this point... does he have it in him, YES hes does, was his comment premature, it sure was, but imagine if he didnt make the comment, how much MORE support he would have if he kept a little more humble at the time.

Was still a bit ridiculous to say he was a top 5 player when he was a bit off it at the time. There's an algorithm that exists to work that out as fair as possible Patrick.

I think he'll get there eventually but it's an awful lot easier to say you're there than to actually do it through the ranking system. Then if he does make top 5, it's another thing to stay there.

The top 3 are cemented for the foreseeable future which means that he has to be better than all but one of Watson, Fowler, DJ, Stenson, Rose etc at a given time. No easy task and it felt he was underrating the task when he said it.

I rank him sure-in top 5 for gutsy and ballsy. He played 2 good rounds after being schooled by Spieth 2nd round of Hyundai. Very enjoyable to watch him not giving up.

Anyone knows what was his then top 5 when he made the statement? I think Jordan won the Deere that year and you think he included him?

Oh yes you did. Then you went back and edited it, when your realized it was going to get you a reprimand from WRX staff.

Totally agree, but if he'd been humble about it there would be an epic thread about how phony he is! ;-)

Plenty of guys - at or beyond the level of success he had when he said that - didn't say stuff like that. Did Spieth say he could see himself at #1 when he won the Deere that year? Did he say 'You know what? I might overall dominate the majors a couple years from now. And Dustin Johnson will HAND ME THE US OPEN'. He'd have been totally right but it still would've been a jack*** thing to say at the time.

Speak softly, and carry a scorecard with low numbers on it. I think guys who go on like Reed has are just letting the attention and the open microphone get the best of them. The guy was excited after a hot streak and told them what was on his mind.

I don't fault him for what he said, but I do fault him in the 'managing public perception' department. The guy has enough dirt following him.

Maybe he flat out doesn't care - in which case - EXTRA CREDIT

Everybody knows about his college controversies, which have nothing to do with any play on Tour. No hint or suggestion of any issues.

But, considering the source, who always likes to spout the alleged issues of even Hall of Famers like a self-appointed National Enquirer, I'm not surprised.

I don't think Reed has lied about his handicap on this forum.

I never accused Gary Player of cheating, Tom Watson did. Call me crazy, but Tom Watson is probably a fairly credible source.

About a zillion people accused Player or Rabbit Dyer of cheating at The Open in 1974. The evidence seems overwhelming, but who knows?

Ken Venturi accused Arnold Palmer of cheating. Call me crazy, but Venturi should be a credible source. Unfortunately in this case, there's some question about Venturi's interpretation of the rules.

So now Reeds accusers are the equivalent of hall of Famers? Really. Why would you try to justify one accusation with examples that are no comparison?

Watching him last season and recently at the Hyundai, it appears to me that he has matured and has conducted himself quite well. He is also a father now. Just like DJ, that tends to settle you down and get your priorities straight. I'm pulling for him. I like his game and he doesn't quit! Without question he had a bit of a rough start and there appears to have been a family situation that he had to deal with but hopefully that's all behind him now. As we all know, making it in any professional sport is no simple task. To get to where he is at his age, I'm sure we all agree that he has the potential for a great career
