Center of gravity on drivers - I need some help!!!

I have been daydreaming about my old Titleist 983E driver, so I purchased one on Ebay for experimental purposes. I purchased one with a Speeder shaft and I trimmed it down to 44.75 inches to make as to close to my old one as possible. I took it to the course and started letting them fly. As this driver is new again to me, my consistency was not as good as my Callaway X2 Hot Pro. In saying that, I hit a few drives that really opened my eyes. This little joker is hot!!!

So when i get home I start reasearch the R&D on the Titleist. Here's what I found: The slightly shallower front-to-back profile produces a flatter initial launch angle. The neutral internal weighting and slightly lower and forward CG location promote a boring trajectory and low spin. The result is a low spin driver for the stronger or high-spin player seeking optimal distance with trajectory control.

Now when I look at the specs of the Callaway XR Pro driver, this what I have found: XR Pro has a 53% lower Center of Gravity and 300 rpm lower spin than X2 Hot Pro. Those are stunning numbers, and we’ve done it in part by designing a Forged Composite crown that takes weight from the crown, moves it to the right place and helps create an enhanced aerodynamic head shape at the same time. The multi-material construction works with R•MOTO for high ball speed all over the face and lower spin while maintaining forgivenes.

So in reading these descriptions, am I reading them as similar? The weight in the XR Pro is low and close to the face like the Titleist, right?

The X2 Hot Pro has a weight that is in the back of the head, so I was hoping the XR Pro would be closer to the 983E. I know some of you will say, then just play the 983E. I think the XR Pro would probably be a little more forgiving on off center hits. Thanks for you help!!!

i actually thought about this as an option. I saw one on Ebay with a fujikura vista shaft that interested me. Not sure about the shaft though.

Just because the C.G. is low on the XR Pro doesn't mean it's close to the face like it is on the 983. In fact, don't know but I suspect it's likely further back away from the face. Whether that's good or bad will depend on you. The XR Pro likely does have a higher MOI and thus susceptible to less gear effect.

Will the sole weight being close the face not have an affect on the C.G.?

Maybe a little but not nearly as much as how the designers distributed the rest of the weight through the head. The plug is only going to be a small percentage of the total head weight. Although I must say that that is being said without seeing any values for how heavy that plug actually is.

I think I'm gonna tinker with a Xr PRO 9* head and trim it to 44.75 inches and make up the swingweight loss by changing the weight. I hope this gets me close to the 983e performance, but with a little more forgiveness. I have a XR16 head that I haven't hit yet because the weight is in the lower back portion of the club like my X2 hot. I not a huge fan of the top of the crown as well. Too busy for my taste. I have trouble picking up the top line.
