European Tour to allow shorts in practice rounds

Exactly what you think it means. Players can choose to leave the trousers in the hotel room during practice rounds. The regulation still needs to be passed but I'd be surprised if it doesn't get ratified. Keith Pelley's got stones (and goofy glasses).

Agree 100%. All major amateur tourneys allow shorts, and I have no issue with this.

 

Plus, this will allow Rickie F to break out the capris that I know he is dying to wear......

Golf clothing manufacturers would be all over this. Even though we all already buy the shorts they put out, they would then have an avenue to advertise them. Still enough "cooler" weather today new for pants too.

With the advances in trouser materials, there really is no reason for Pros not to wear trousers (and in my mind it has always been the differentiator between Am and Pro).

 

Add in the benefits of UV protection and it's a no brainer.

 

If I need to see sturdy, manly calves, I will look at my Fanny Sunnesson back catalogue.

I don't expect them to sell all that much more sunscreen, but do expect a lot more people wanting sunning time to rid themselves of pasty legs.

i wear shorts 99% of the time but i can understand the pga tour ruling against them in their events...

 

.....unlike the lpga wherein it is eye candy for us men most of the time i doubt we will have the same reaction seeing it in the pga tour..

I honestly cannot see any reason why shorts are not allowed. It's really not that big a deal. I read somewhere that someone thought allowing the pro's to wear shorts will make the came more popular, that is a stretch as far as I am concerned. The only positive impact would come if some of the stuffier clubs start to let people wear shorts.

It'll look amateurish the first few times out but people will get used to it.

Slippery slope... next shirts will be untucked, then Crocs will sponsor someone, then everyone will start applying for medical exemptions to ride in a cart, then beer cans in the coolers and a splif behind the ear, then preferred lies will be invoked for all tournaments, and then to completely ruin things, jeans will be allowed when the temps are 50F/10C or lower... which then leads to jean shorts whenever! The horror, the horror...

 

Or none of those things will happen and the golfers will continue to be just fine wearing trousers Thurs-Sun.

To say that this is way overdue is the understatement of the life of this board.

 

I look for very strong resistance to this on our side of the pond from the PGA Tour.
