The horrible record at Torrey is all the more reason he needs to show up. The 2021 US Open is going to be held there and it wouldn't hurt to get more competitive reps in there before the Open.

I wonder if those ripping on him felt the same when TW (and Phil to lesser extent) was skipping everything under the sun here in the states for the exact same reasons...

Dude is 22. He'll play Torrey 12-15 times, easy.

I felt the same way yeah. I know the reasons for going, the appearance fee, the world travelling (which is nice naturally), the fact that he is an independant contractor and can do whatever he wants. He's also a young guy and should experience things i guess

My only "issue" with it, is that pros are very quick to play the independent contractor card, but IMO they do owe a little bit to the PGA tour. There's a reason most of the top players in the world have PGA tour memberships, the money is better, the sponsors are better. If Rory or Spieth spent all their time in Asia would they get the same endorsement contracts? Probably not as large

So the PGA tour gives them this exposure that allows them to earn more then they otherwise would on a different tour... i can understand and support the argument they should support the PGA tour in kind, by playing in it's tournaments and helping it attract viewers. If i was running the event this week, i might gripe to Mr Finchem that these guys get a lot of exposure from the tour, and then they skip my event to make a money grab on a different tour

I know legally they are not "obligated"....but it's a gray area for me

I think money and working for U A and Coke are the reasons. All this talk about world travel and seeing Singapore is nice, but I wonder how much he actually gets to do that. He is there to play golf...practice before and after ...each tournament round..back to hotel/villa.. eat...look out window..go to sleep and repeat. I don't think there is that much sightseeing involved as we might think. I would not call it a vacation.

So does the PGA want to grow the game or just keep it in the Americas and Europe...

The PGA loves the fact it can send 1 person to represent the whole tour if not the entire game.

It's Jordan's job to promote the game to the largest growing population of golfers on the planet....

The NBA, NFL, MLB all send teams around the world to gain viewership and fans.

That is more important than, the "Whatever company.com" tour event.

Btw, please go back to naming tour events to things like, the L.A. Open or the Greater Greensboro Open, or even the Texas Open.

The company name in the event is really cheesy and probably turns fans away.

It's easier to remember the winner of the L.A. Open than it is the AT&T Pebble Beach National...

I think it was SecretTourPro that said he got $2.5 as an appearance fee.

He's getting paid 1.3 million dollars as an appearance fee for Singapore.

I betcha there's about 2 million reasons why he's playing in Singapore instead of Torrey, and the same 2 million reasons say he doesn't give two craps what the PGA thinks about it. And Anchorman references never get old.

Somebody put an end to this madness... :fie:

And after today's cut @ Farmers, this tourney is more interesting than it's getting credit for.

Gotta ask how come Greller isn't on the bag this week for Spieth? Noticed his agent is taking over the duties this week.

They said in the first round coverage that his caddy hurt his ankle at Tiger's event last fall and it is not getting better.

I heard he hurt it last week

Yes, yes it is...

Cantlay and Cauley would probably settle for a pepperoni pizza and a case of natty light for their appearance money. Are they playing in Singapore?

Bud Cauley just finished T-14 at the CareerBuilders after being off the Tour for 6+ months recovering from shoulder surgery. So I'm pretty sure he did better then you for the week!

It's funny how clueless people are.

I think he actually said he would cut back on the globetrotting in the future. I read that somewhere... He said it was a lot of travel. I think the exact quote was "feeling tired and beat up"

So I'd guess next year he doesn't do it. It's not like he needs the money

He might not need the money, but if UA and Coca Cola want him to travel overseas, then he's going to travel overseas.
