Thoughts on 2016 Fairway Woods (poll added)

Hey guys-

I have been looking to move from my CB Pro fairway for a while now. The CB Pro is a great club - I was looking for something with a shallower profile.

Over the last few weeks I tried the M2, the XR 16 Pro, and a few others.

I landed on the King LTD Fairway. I like the feel and it gave me the best numbers. Thankfully those numbers seem to have translated well at yesterday's range session.

So my vote would go to the King LTD.

Does anyone else have some thoughts on, I don't know, 'surprise' fairway contenders?

I second the King LTD. It feels great, is easy to hit, and is as long as anything else I've hit. I have no interest in anything else at this point.

Cobra F6 hands down was the best for me. Just seamless and effortless. Cannon off the tee and great off the deck.

The XR was great to but F6 had the adjustability to get distances dialed in XR didn't.

I found the LTD had a slightly deeper face was a bit tougher for me to get airborne even tho I had the F6 at 15.5 and the LTD at 16.5.

I have hit them all and the cobra f6 is the best for me. I thought the face was a little deeper than the ltd which I like. The f6 was still easy to hit off the deck and it felt awesome better than my 915f. The adjustability in the f6 does really work. It changes the feel and the flight. I loved the f6 so much I got both the 3 and 5 fw. It was longer than my 915f and still felt very forgiving. I think if your in the market for fw you would be doing yourself a disservice not to try out the cobra lineup.

I hit the Nike and it just wasn't for me based on the shaft options at the pga ss. It felt good and sounded good but was all over the place and the cobra sounded good felt good and good dispersion. And I really wanted to like the Nike cause the color and shape are great but didn't like the tensi or the Bluebeard shafts.

I had an old school black tie 7m3 tipped and set up to play in my 816 Alpha 3 wood. I was at the sim for 3 hours this morning and have never hit anything so pure so many times, what a wicked combo.

This shaft has been sitting in the corner in an RFE driver for 2 years. The 816 is just phenomenal.

Great Big Bertha FWs are my choice. Forgiveness is the key for me. Liked the Nike Vapor Fly, but the 43.75" shaft on the 3 wood spooked me. Special orders will have lower swing weight, so it was a little iffy ordering the club without actually trying it with the cut down shaft.

That was the best thing Callaway did with the fwy. The 815 is an awesome club, but a pretty small head. They made the 816 just a touch bigger to inspire some confidence, especially off the tee, but still shallow and nice off the turf.

I was hitting it straight off the mat all day, no tee.

Taylormade M2 all the way for me. My SS was 105 with the 3 woods I was testing. Tested my current 15* Titleist 910F against the Ping G, BB 816, Cobra F6, Cobra LTD. All of those averaging 240 to 245 yards carry. With the M2 I was averaging carry of 258 and also hitting it the straightest.

M2 is a better feeling, easier to hit Aeroburner TP. I was hitting it pretty high so I had put in an order to get a lower launching shaft, but decided to cancel it and just put a few rounds on the stock combo since I was hitting it so good. Long story short, I'm not touching this 3W - if I decide to try another shaft, I'll buy another one to experiment with...I don't want to ruin a good thing by tinkering.

Best way I can describe the M2 is it's just as easy to hit as the Ping G or G25 but with the distance you'd expect from Taylormade. Feel is outstanding too with the composite head.

Lots of great fairway woods: M2, F6, LTD, XR16, and 816 alpha. I actually like the F6 better than the LTD for some reason. All of the above went pretty close distances; however, I wasn't able to try them all with the same shaft. I thought the M2 was very easy to hit and will probably get something closer to 16 degrees as the fairway woods are so long now they start creeping into driver territory and mess up my gaps.

Hard for me to get away from callaway fairway woods. Everything these days is good, but those ones just seem to be a top contender in my book. I hit the ping G, G30, and M2 against the XR 16 Pro and while the cally may not have been the most forgiving out of the bunch, it's shortest hit just ended up being lower and rolled out to close to what the others were topping out at. Catching that xr16 flush is a great feeling, and it just flies..

I only hit them off the deck. That's all I really look for in the performance of a fwy for myself. If I can hit it off the deck, I can tee it up 1/4" and hit it further, but I can't do it from a fairway, so to me off the deck is the most important part.

Totally with you on that. It feels great to bomb a fairway wood, but I'm honestly thinking of going to a 4-5 wood. In all the testing, throwing the clear misses out, everything was getting out to 260+ and most were over 270, which has its advantages, but the practicality is lacking lol, and I'm not sure about everyone else, but if I'm hitting something further, it's not going to be as accurate generally. But at the same time, how do you not get something you hit so well? Haha.

my 2 favourite were the Nike Vapor Fly 4 wood with blueboard or the Ping G 14.5 cranked to 15.5 - awesome club so easy to launch.

Ping has a winner - Nike has a soft spot for me always good fairways paired with my fav fairway shaft.

Not a fan of the 915 or callaway stuff or even the M1. Didn't hit the cobra stuff yet.
