Titleist 714 AP2 PW - torx head tungsten plug in bottom of hosel

Is this normal, or legit? I've had at least seven sets of Titleist run across my bench from 2008 AP2, 710 AP2, 712 AP2 x2, 714CB x2 and 714 AP2. It might have been more, but those for sure. I've never seen this:

Nope the plug is inside the hosel, for weighting -- apparently. Not exterior, for shaft swapping, etc. Most demo Titleist irons seem to be a standard 6i glued up like an OTR set.

I have reshafted 3-4 sets of 714 AP2's and never ran into one with a threaded weight in the hosel.

 

I'm wondering if someone added this as a tip weight, especially if the head(s) was a light-weight one for an over length build. Was there only one head like this or did you find multiple ones?

I have two more to pull the 5i and the W2. None of the others had this sort of weight. The 6i has a normal brass tip weight in the shaft itself.

Was the hosel threaded to accept the weight? Or was the weight just wedged into the hosel?

Had some warranty issue with the 4i, and Titleist sent a replacement with no hassle, so I am just about 101% sure it's a legit set. Just not sure if this weight is Titleist work or aftermarket. If Titleist work, something they do on all wedges for swingweighting, or just on some, etc. So many questions.

I've seen this before, too. I've never taken one out, but I have seen the Torx screw in the hosel.

 

The ones I've seen were in PWs.

There is one in the GW too. It has epoxy in the torx so I can't get it out, but definitely the same. Must be a 714 wedge thing.

On the GW, if I had not been specifically looking, I would not have seen it. I had to really run the sanding bit in the bottom to clear the epoxy from it.

I just finished reshafting my 714 AP2's and my PW had the same torx drive weight in it.

Feel like the responses here precluded a call to Titleist. Seems like it's normal in the 714 wedges.

I reshafted another 714 AP2 set and found the PW had the weight installed, too.

I've seen them as well but never pulled one. I'm usually adding weight.

I did not pull i to leave it out, I pulled it because I had never seen it before and it had clean threads to get a Torx on it.

 

I have it back in, and built up.

I also resgafted a set last week and my pw also had the screw in the hosel, non of the other clubs had it though.

I pulled apart a set of Taylormades and they had 2 weights....1 inside shafts like normal and another cone lead weight epoxies in bottom of hosel.....I got one head a Lil hotter than others when I was pulling shafts and it just popped out....so I went back and pulled em all out....depth of hosel was crazy deep.....but yeah they had 2 separate weights....but it wasn't threaded like yours....it looked like a cone...maybe 1/4 inch long or so

Titleist did it I am sure....no one is going to go through all that trouble to manufacture a torx bit threaded swingweight, lol.......only one question and pretty much been answered....for swing weighting purposes

An entity like Wishon, Golfowrks, or Ace of Clubs might do it, but I think we've got a clear consensus that this is 100% Titleist, and only on the PW and GW.

Perhaps the 714 AP2 pitching wedges were manufactured too light across the board, so in an effort to increase head weight Titleist jade the hotels tapped and weighted screws made.

 

Just a guess.
