Best song of the 80's

Okay, some more 60s - who remembers these guys? Great album

Or these guys from the early 70s.

And this dedication to Duane Allman from Captain Beyond (from Iron Buttefly, Deep Purple, and - had both of their albums and wore the grooves off them both.

We are like butterflies that flutter for a day and think it is forever

Sealed with a curse as sharp as a knife.  Doomed is your soul and damned is your life.
Enjoy every sandwich

and back from Miami Vice which to this day still stands as the TV with the best soundtrack ever. My goodness the list of songs for those 5 or so seasons in the mid 80s is, well, awesome.

Couldn't agree more regarding the soundtrack!!

My favorite artist back in the day and I also loved Genisis :)

Here's two from the soundtrack-

This was my absolute favorite song back in the day, and this live version from his farewell tour is simply incredible-

Unlike Ringo, this sum b**** can Play his a** off, lol

It was the last song that I listened to prior to leaving the locker room in both 1987 & 88, my first two Clubs~

Phil was Bad A** for sure

And I've been to "get back home" for the better part of 35 years, LMAO-

It took a while but I think that I might be gettin close, lol

Phil unlike Peter Gabriel not only got a lot of his songs on Miami Vice but he got to play a character Phill the Shill in several episodes.

Of course, G. Gordon Liddy played himself in the ultimate type casting - my goodness that man is scary.

One last attempt from 1979.

Boomtown Rats. 1979. Brenda Ann Spencer, 16, from San Diego shot and killed 2 adults and injured 8 kids and a policeman. Said, she didn't like Monday and this would ilven up the day.

Too much bandwidth to pick a favorite for the 80s, but I think the 80 stands out as the decade when the alt/indie sound was born

Elivs Costello - I Write the Book, Alison, Pump it Up

Pretenders - Chain Gang, Talk of the Town, Middle of the Road

Talking Heads - Psycho Killer, Burning Down the House, And She Was

REM - Radio Free Europe, One I Love, Fall on Me

Blondie - AutoAmerican

Also rans: Depeche Mode, INXS, Roxy Music, etc...

The end of the 80's also marked the start of the grunge movement (I know they hate that label) with Nirvana, Alice in Chains, STP, and Pearl Jam. What a great time for rock music, but I'm afraid that we're not going to see that kind of creative growth again. Pop and American Idol and Beyoncee and 50 Cent have pretty much taken over main stream music.

It took a long time for someone to mention Radio Free Europe, always felt like that song started the 80's versus a continuation of the '70s.

I didn't speak for up bc I couldn't decide between that song and Jane Says by Jane's Addiction. While it isnt my favorite song on their first album (1% is) I believe it is a great song and helped Jane's become well known and helped shape the late '80s.

U2 is another, but no single song jumps out, their whole catalog is amazing from the early years.

Yeah, U2 fired up in the 80s but I didn't get on board until I started covering some of their songs because my band wanted to play them. Now I agree they were a milestone band. I thought Jane's A started up in the early 90's? Always loved them, kind of a cool LA continuation of the glam rock movement.

Richard, Southern Cross used to be one of my favorite songs to play/sing. Great 3 part harmonies. Kinda surprised the Eagles never covered that one.

Ok, I know they were a Hair band but this song kicked A** and was another of my Pre-Round faves, lol

Oh, and I much much preferred Richie Kotzen to Brett~

Richie was a legitimate a**hole and wildman and Brett was too pretty, vanilla and well, pretty, lol

Wife and I are currently discussing this topic (although she claims I never left the 70's). I am more of 75-85 person.

She's now trying to be funny and saying Air Supply.

Another Brick in the Wall, Another One Bites the Dust are a couple I remember off the top of my head, but

It looks like most of my iTunes stuff is actually from the late 70''s.

I love hair bands. Richard your range in types of music is pretty impressive, I wouldn't have pegged you for a poison guy. Unskinny Bop came out when I was around 14 man me and my friends thought we were so cool.

3 pages here and no Kiss yet?? Come on now fellas ... Here is a playlist to use at the range:

Warm up, hitting some light wedges:

Warmed up now, gonna hit some 9 irons:

Working the way down the bag with some 6 irons:

Hitting some 3 woods:

Smashing some drives at the end:

Peter Criss is a great drummer but I'd take Eric Carr over him any day of the week. I love it loud is one of my favorite KISS songs.

For those who liked the 60s. The genius of Al Kooper. BS&T never the same once they kicked him out of the band after this first album and he founded the band!

Jane's Addiction put out their first album in '87 (I believe) and actually broke up in the early '90s after Ritual de lo Habitual. I saw them in 91 (?) when Primus opened for them, and then again just a couple of years ago. I think they turned music around, like Nirvana in the 90's.

This is for Forged, but in 1985 I tried to get into the Decade to see U2 play, my fake ID was immediately refused. Loved them from early on. Another driving 80s band was the Red Hot Chili Peppers who didn't become widely know until the 90's. I saw them at The Graffiti in 1988, and they were unbelievable. One of the best shows I have ever seen. Saw REM in 86 (maybe 87) at the Syria Mosque, another great show. Back in the 80s PGH had some great shows and venues.
