Put on the Drakkar Noir

Watch Miami Vice

Pile into your friends dads Caddy.

Head to the club

And crank this up ; )

What the hell was that? Never even heard that before. Were there any instruments or even people involved in recording that?

I thought youre a "thug" from ny.

Never cruised the boulevard scoping out the big haired chicks on the way to the club while blasting "jam on it"?

But, you had a bottle of drakkar, right?

How bout this,

; )

Ha. Actually I grew up in the hippy greenwich village area, and aligned more to folk music growing up. I can remember walking past the Bottom Line club at the age of 10 seeing the marquis for some dude named Bob Dylan. That followed me to NJ for my HS years and I discovered weed and the Grateful Dead. And no, no Drakkar Noir, more like Columbian Gold.

Have you ever heard of Blowfly? That song reminded me of him. Google "Blowfly ‎- The Incredible Fulk", I don't even want to post the link for "safety" reasons. It's eight minutes of an incredible story! :censored2: :taunt:

I remember thinking back in the 80's when I was in high school that our generation wasn't going to have an identity for music. After the disco era and the rock groups that came before in thE 60s aND 70s. Beatles, Eagles, Stones, CCR, Zeppelin. I thought Michael Jackson and Madonna would soon be forgotten. Lol.

This is a great thread. Couple more favs that I don't think have been mentioned. Bryan Adams was huge. I wore my Romantics cassette out in my camaro. My bitchin' camaro. Lmao!

My favorite artist of the 80s. Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Bro, this Stevie Ray tune was my next post, lmao~

Same city, same event, a few years later-

When I asked Stephen Stills who the greatest single guitar Player was, regardless of genre, you know who he said, and Stephen spent a lot of time at Jimi's recording studio that he built in NYC-

BUT, he said that Stevie Ray was THE ONLY other individual who could be included in the same discussion as Jimi-

Stephen wasn't chopped meat cuz a Rolling Stone reporter, in the studio to interview Jimi, asked him who he considered the greatest guitarist of his generation and he just smiled and winked at her and she said, "ok, who's next," and he nodded over to the corner of the studio where Stephen was tuning an electric and he replied, "that white boy over there. He can Play his a** off."

Stephen said that it is the single greatest compliment that he's ever received~

Stay Well My Friend & have a great day :)

Maybe it's the style, but I never got into SRV, and I've always been a Jimmy Page fan. The argument about who's the greatest guitarist will go round and round with all the aforementioned in the mix along with Clapton, VanHalen, Lifeson, and others, but, since this is a thread about the 80's... when it comes to drums, when this dude hit the scene, everybody else was playing for second...

I thought SRV was in the 90s. But, we are all remiss in not mentioning Clapton. After his stints with John Mayall and Cream, his solo development was during the 80s, kind of as a counterpoint to all the hair/alternate/metal stuff going on, here was plain old blues still being represented.

You don't know how much I wish that was true for Stevie, but his crash was in 1990.

Also went back and edited my post because I lost my mind and misspelled his last name. Ouch.

Also figured out how to embed, so you can see the thing. The "Live at Montreaux" recordings are pretty darn good.

I'm very into music but for some reason I don't generally care for most of the stuff from the 80's in the respect of Rock n' Roll besides the bands that were 70's bands that carried over into the 80's. Too many ballads in the 80's, but there are some obvious classics.

Besides Metallica. Their early stuff was the best IMO.

Stephen said Page, sober/"clean," was "without peer as a rock guitarist"

When I asked him about Slash he turned around(he was buttering a piece of bread, lmao) and looked over these reading glasses that he had on(I frickin hate that as my father always does that and I find it condescending, lol) and let out this deep laugh/grunt that he has, lol, and went back to buttering his bread, lmao

WTF, it was a Legit question, lol

Late 70s almost 80s. Chicago native and gone too soon, the excitable boy himself, Warren Zevon - enjoy every sandwich.

Says I've posted my limit of media files!!!!! Guess that's it for the night.

Awesome, saw him live at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City in the early 80s, I think it was circa "Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School".

"Lawyers, Guns and Money" an all-time favorite. That song hooked me the minute he sang, "Dad, get me out of this!"

He was an interesting lyricist right up to the very end.

We are like butterflies that flutter for a day and think it is forever

Sealed with a curse as sharp as a knife.  Doomed is your soul and damned is your life.
Enjoy every sandwich

It's another beautiful day at the Red Pony Bar and continual soirée.

Yes it was a cover from the Tears for Fears original. I like it better - haunting. And like Echo above was in Donnie Darko.

Paying attention? Just missed a intimate concert, a year or so ago, in some bar in Chicago. Heard she practically vibrated the walls down. Yeah not the 80s, just couldn't help myself. Did watch her at Lollapalooza though. Where are you Taylor? Can't hear you. LOL.

Blackfoot 'Gimme, Gimme, Gimme' (1980)

And cheating a bit (1979) 'Highway Song' 'Train, Train' 'I Got A Line On You'

I frickin loved Blackfoot, haha

I missed this post, sorry, lol

This was suppose to be the "next" Free Bird, and though it never reached those heights, it's a hell of a song, none the less~

And Train Train was just a kick a** rock n roll song....

Three of the four original members were in fact part American Indians(Jackson Spires/Part Cherokee/drums, Ricky Medlocke/Sioux/Guitar-vocals & Greg T. Walker/Eastern Creek, a Floridian tribe-Bass) and Medlocke and Walker in fact left Blackfoot in 1971 to join Skynyrd though they quit, reformed, rejoined Skynyrd a second time then decided Van Zant was Axel Rose 20+ years before Axel Rose(ie., an A**Hole, lol) and reupped with Blackfoot.

Sorry for the ramble, they were one of my 2-3 top bands back in the day, lol

These yahoos runnin around now are not Blackfoot. They have some A**Hole dressed in an Indian costume and I don't give a s*** if it's frickin Gerinimo, he looks like a moron jumpin around on stage.

Looks like one of the damn Village People stumbled onto the stage with a rock band

Putzes ;)

Stay Well Bro & have a great weekend :)

All the Best,

Richard
