Well with conference tournys starting up, or already finished, and the big dance just around the corner I figured we might as well get this going. My Zags got a big win over Saint Mary's last night to lock up their 17th invitation to the madness in a row. We can talk bubble teams and conference tournys for now if you guys want and I'll set up a bracket pool for the Tournament if you guys are interested. Happy March y'all

I almost started this thread last week but went on vacation and forgot. Just got back and happy to see my Jayhawks are still #1 and I'm getting super pumped for the tourney to start. Selection Sunday is almost here!

UNC beats Virginia to win the ACC! They've locked up a #1 seed. Hell of a game. Virginia was able to impose their style of basketball, a grind it out, half court game, but UNC was still able to win.

Well, the committee is at it again this year. Virginia and Oregon get #1 seeds over Michigan State.

How the hell is MSU not a #1 seed! #2 team in the country, won the B1G tourney (Virginia didn't win the ACC) and by the way, has a win over Kansas this year. No matter. Glamour position. Ball up boys. Let's go. No prisoners.

On the selection show Kenny Smith is discussing player of the year, Buddy Hield vs Denzel Valentine. Smith keeps talking about how Hield captivates the fans (referencing his scoring). What the hell does that have to do with determining player of the year?

Surprised Sparty isn't a 1. Gross injustice giving SF Austin a 14 and Dub V. Really liked both teams. Chatty is going to beat Crean book it.

Cooled down now. Some reflection. Really like the Region we're in. Nothing assured, but a very doable path to the regional final. And if history is an indicator, Izzo knows how to prep for Virginia. They've had their number lately. Perhaps better to be a #2 seed, close to home, than going out West as a #1. Lots of Spartans will be in the house. Plus, the added benefit of being able to use the "disrespect" card. Nobody plays the "chip on the shoulder" better than Spartans.

I think MSU got helped by the committee by getting a 2. They should have been a 1, but what does that really mean anyway. People hardly remember who played in the final 4 a year ago, let alone who the top seeds were.

Lol so there's a data base of the projections of 59 brackologists. Zero of them had Tulsa in.

 

For comparison 52 had the St. Bonaventure in.

Yea I completely agree with that, better to be a 2 in chicago with a team you own in UVA as the one, to be out west with Oklahoma. I think if I was sparty I'd be more worried about Utah than UVA.

Admittedly, I never watch regular season bball (I prefer NBA).

 

Made a bet with my friend where he gets 5.5 teams and I get the field. The half team is a push team.

 

He chose: Virginia, UNC, Kansas, Mich St, and Oklahoma. The push team is UK.

The seeding process has become less of a proper distribution of teams, and one that does two things: a)set up "cool" matchups for the weekend for the TV networks, and b)pave the way for a cinderella or two to make the sweet sixteen. It's been happening for a few years now, and this year is just completely obvious.

 

MSU and UVa in the same region for the third straight year. Looking for a "storyline" regional final.

Duke a #4 seed. Really. That must have been some trip the committee was on. And not only that, the region is quite weak, except for Oklahoma.

 

I also believe that no auto-bid team should have to play in Dayton. I don't care what they try to say, you do not feel like part of the tournament if you're not playing Thursday/Friday. I don't care if they will simply be cannon fodder for somebody, if you give a conference an auto-bid, the team that gets it should be in the arena with 4 games that day. It's right that Michigan has to play that game on Wednesday. It's not right that the auto-bid teams have to.
