I didn't even see that one. I know the idea was to crack down on hand checking, but now it seems like they're calling almost all contact. Even stuff way off the ball that is just incidental.

Some great games. Loved the half-court finish from Norhern Iowa even though I had Texas on my bracket. Felt sorry for the kid who got his buzzer-beater dunk taken away.

 

Looks like there's only 11 guys in the ESPN Bracket Challenge in first place. They all missed one pick: Michigan. But, five of those guys had Michigan picked to win it all. So really only 6 are in 1st place with one wrong pick.

This is just ridiculous. Wichita State plays a game that ends after midnight. In the not so distant past, they would have at least been the second game played in Providence, regardless of the time it starts. Now, since a)they need a game at noon, and b)this is probably the least interesting, they stick them at noon. The team that played at noon on Thursday there gets more rest time than they do.

 

Absolute sellout by the NCAA. Which shouldn't be surprising at all, but they still need to be called out.

I'm thinking that the "partnership" between CBS, TNT et al. benefits them, but is what leads to this crap. After all, why should CBS get all the glamor games? I think the NCAA used to impose a bit of common sense back when it was all on CBS. Now, you can't understand anything the committee says because it's difficult to enunciate with your mouth full.

That was insane, I was trying to stream the Wisco game on my computer and watch the UNI game on tv, didn't know where to look. What absolute heart break for the UNI kids. They had a 99.99% chance of winning with 41 seconds left, just insanity. This has to be the best first weekend in recent memory right?

When trying to inbound the ball against heavy pressure (after a score or TO, not a violation), have a teammate step out of bounds and pass to him while the original inbounder can then step back onto the court and recieve the inbounds pass against much, much less pressure. And you don't have to be forced into a corner that way.

 

It's such a smart move, but so under utilized.

Thats definitely not illegal if you can run the baseline.This works great if you have your best freet throw shooter take it out of bounds originally! And it was Iowa that did it!

Iowa St ran a play like that when they beat OU, trying to find a video right now. I mean I'm not saying you're wrong, but you're wrong.

I certainly can't quote a rule on it, but it's been done for years and it was done in the first round of the tournament this year. Loomis said it was Iowa that did it. Officials didn't call anything (not that that means much) but the announcers also said the same thing. As long as it is after a basket or timeout it's legal. Not legal after a violation. That's always how I've known the rule.

 

Boyd, sounds like maybe the rule is left open to interpretation or judgment by the officials, but never called? Similar to the " in the neighborhood" of second base on a double play turn in baseball (which they ar esuppised to be enforcing this year)?
