Actually - the umbrella holder is a conventional one, drawstring top and fabric loop at the base, on the back of the bag.

Well, found a similar bag on the bay and those brackets were meant to hold a putter tube. 

and it's a 14 way top - so that would look really nice with a full vintage set.

 

I could rig something up to match that, as this one is destined for club storage/display.

Looks like it’ll hold a putter, no tube required.   Wouldn’t trust it on the back of a cart though.

Those "curls" on the side look an awful lot like a compliant mechanism, one where you'd insert of a cylinder of a given sized and the flexible brackets would hold it against the back of the clip. Doesn't sound like you brought the bag home, but I'd try snapping a putter into there if you have it on hand.

tried that & no joy.

the bottom bracket holds the end of the putter tube and based on pics,  there is a formed cap at the top that likely has a pin shaped piece that slides into the uppers. It might swivel a bit.  the jaws of that bracket do not flex at all.

still, it's big enough bag to be helpful. I wonder if the tube stayed well attached or if some users removed it. Handy thing but not required.

The goodwill I check every Christmas when I go visit the fam had some names I’ve been hearing about in Gary Player’s Majors book, 2 bucks a stick. 3-E, just missing a 7 iron.  Hagen’s are 3 and 4 woods.

Was able to match up a thrift store find with some classic irons. Spalding TF SynchroDyned set now in a TF stand bag. The wedge isn't matching but close enough for play.

Here a couple of nice Bullseye finds from thrift stores recently. The first, a 5 A, I hadn't seen before. It's a heal shafted putter that looks very much like my '64 8802. It puts a nice roll on a putt. I'm glad to add this to my family of 8802 inspired putters.

 

The second is a Scotty standard blade. I've never been a huge fan of the standard blade, but he did a nice job on this one and it is a pretty good putter.

Trouble Lover!  , from Ebay for a short par 3 set , im working on , all Top Flite branded. Seems like it could be a lighter Sandy Andy, almost. Big sole gives me hope overall.

I have 2 old Spalding wedges. One 58 degree early to mid 50’s Tournament wedge and one aluminum shafted store line Bob Jones Kro sand. Both play great! Bet yours will play awesome. Those giant flange wedges work so much better than I expected. Use to think I was above a wedge like this. Learned they just make it easier.

agreed. I tried a Hogan Sure Out Special not long ago. It's staying in the bag.

the guys I play with know my preference to older gear - and this stick gets the ball out.

Thrift store this time. Was really happy, stopped in before a indoor round with a buddy. I now have PW, 8 , 6 , 4 of '69's. Coke bath this weekend. Basically got a set now, could use my 2 from X31's + Sandy Andy

I had that sort head cover for my TM Burner metalwood around 1990; years later, I took it back to Japan with me, and it now serves as my 4w (or 5w) head cover in my modern bag.

 

I've always thought it was a good head cover. Currently, it is keeping a Taylormade R9 4w warm...

Sadly it is that time of year... had a similar experience thrifting this weekend, mostly goodwills, and a few others thrown in for good measure, and between the 7 or 8 stores i would say there was collectively about 5 clubs...and none worth grabbing

I used to have the 845 W3 and W4.

for the life of me, I wish I hadn't sold them.

last year sometime I picked up a set of TA 845s, 1 plus the 3 thru P....and a few months later, came across a set of TA 855s, 1 thru W4. Both in excellent condition.

I’ve come across a couple of things over the past couple of weeks…

 

4,6,8 short set of M75 irons

 

Penna driver and 5 wood and a Hogan 3 that will all end up as refinishing projects. The Penna driver sits especially nicely.

First time thrift shopping for the year and it was a good day.

 

Back in October I scored some Spalding Syncho-Dyned Chi Chi Rodriguez Personal Model irons (3,4,6,8,9,PW,SW) and I was pretty pleased with myself.  

Despite multiple google searches I have never come across any other pictures of these particular irons* 

[* There are lots of pics of Chi Chi Rodriguez irons, just none of seen of the same forging as these]

And beyond what is stamped on them, and that I think they're from the 1960s - I still no nothing about them. 

I even said to someone recently"as best I can tell, these are as rare as rockinghorse s***".

And then this morning I find the same irons - 3 to SW (9 irons, none missing), plus a 2w, 3w and 4w.
$NZD 2 per club (a total of $NZD 24).

Are they as rare as I thought? 

Or have I discovered a portal to a Spalding Syncho-Dyned Chi Chi Rodriguez Personal Model parallel universe?

Anyway, some pics....

These are before cleaning. Pretty rough as you can see

The woods came with covers too (period, a bit worn but they'll do a job)
The grips are shot (old school black rubber Spalding grips) and due to be replaced.
The shafts are rough.  Rust, etc.

With the exception of the 2w [Tru Temper Pro Fit "S" Flex], all the shaft bands are missing.


The woods say "Chi Chi Rodriguez" [Italic script] and "PERSONAL"[Italic] on top, for alignment.
The 2w and the 3w are persimmon, with sealed whipping.

The 4w is laminate, with non sealed whipping.

On all the woods, the soleplates have only "Spalding" and the wood number stamped on them.

The 2w and 3w have SYNCHRO DYNED on the toe.

The 2w and 3w also say "Hydrosealed" at the back.

6i on 6i comparison [before cleaning]

The latest purchase is below and as you can see it is a lot worse for wear.

[The first, incomplete set, were in reasonbly good condition, so they only got the first 3 steps, below]


So then I went to work on them (the irons in particular) with my patented 8 step cleaning process (based on what I had lying around):
[1] Cleaning wipes (like from the supermarket) [This was all the cleaning that the woods got]
[2] Soak in hot soapy water
[3] Scrub each club with a toothbrush and some abrasive household cleaner cream
[4] 320 grit wet and dry sandpaper
[5] 800 grit wet & dry sandpaper
[6] 1200 grit wet & dry sandpaper
[7] Scrub each club with a toothbrush and some abrasive household cleaner cream (again)
[8] Cleaning wipes (again)

You cant see it becuase of my hand, but the ferrules on the two sets match.

 

My thrift shop clubs, bag and buggy.
