Are you guys buying these clubs because you need a set, or are you just hoarding?

 

I mean I've got my old set of golden oldies from back in the day collecting dust in my staff back in the corner of the den, and a few wallhanger hickories, but just how many golf clubs do any of us really need?

 

I only get what I "like" and will play them on the golf course. Regardless of the resale value ( which is not enough meat on the bones to waste my time trying to resale these days ).

Often I'll get the orphaned classic golf clubs for re-purpose the parts, if I have need for repair or for spare parts. The parts are getting hard to find these days.

 

Really, eBay has changed (to me) in the last 5 years in particular. I think that is partly due to the golf club industry adding 157 new drivers ever year, for example.

 

 

I think I had been selling on eBay for over a third of my life and almost my entire adult life...and honestly, it's gotten to the point I think it's run it's course with me. Like you said - not enough meat on the bones.

Actually, what I really hoard/collect are: Watches; Baseball hats; shoes (Jordan's and stuff like that, but just in general sneakers and whatnot. And jerseys.

And YES I do sell jerseys a lot on eBay as well. But like golf clubs they have lost a lot of their value in the last decade as well, is the trend I noticed.

 

 

(Though it's all about timing. My rule is: Golf clubs only three months of the year will you get the value for them. Football jerseys in Fall, and Hockey jerseys in Winter.)

Probably true... clubs are the only thing I have a lot of, although Arnold Palmer had an entire warehouse of clubs he had picked up over the years!!! I dont display mine they are all in golf bags in my home office. I think the big difference in collectors and myself is that I do play my sets and also sell or trade sets I dont like. I only have one modern set of irons, and never had much use for getting more than one set of the newest clubs. Realitively harmless hoarding, honestly there are only 3 more classic sets I want, and then I would be done. This is over a 20 plus year period of buying clubs.

Everything changes with more hands dipped in it trying to have a piece of the pie. I have had some awesome deals from the auction and some just because I wanted it, but very difficult to find a great deal these days.

Lazy shoppers shop Amazon and the likes. Smart shoppers shop everywhere and have the patience to wait for the right deal.

eBay for me, is an nostalgic sentiment. Often times I'll find better deal from the seller's site than their eBay store.

I still remember when the internet in it's infancy, one could make a decent living buying and selling on the web. Never again since so many are trying to do the same trade now.

Technically no, but asking the question "just how many clubs do any of us really need?" definitely does. My wife and my mother-in-law are the only other people who have ever asked me that question. I think you might be missing the whole point of GolfWRX.

Somebody unloaded their Rodney Dangerfield Mizuno demo bag. If you need a 6 iron of many types, lengths and lie angles, you could clean it out at $5 a piece. Titleist, Hogan, Mizuno, Cobra. All with good S300 shafts and grips. With variable lie angles and lengths. A couple decent 5 irons

Honestly if they weren't S300s in them I think I would have walked. Though I did walk away from grabbing another of my all-time favorite 3 woods (HipSteel 14*) and a TP Mills Spalding.

Ram used the following colors on their lie dots:

 

Black were standard

White were upright

Gold were flat

 

The amount of upright or flat I've seen described as both 1.5* or 2*. It may even be different depending on the set in question.

Just found out the 6 iron shaft - whatever is in that frequency thingy of the S300's is loose, just before hand. I can easily remove the grip but it's a Winn so I wouldn't be able to re-install like I can with a rubber grip - it would have to be trashed. Frankly whole set is old Winns that need tossing.

 

 

Let me know anyone if you want them. If not, no worries...

The stuff they toss is crazy. I got a full set of 755s, Zings, Some Hogans (i forget which set) and I could go on. Just this summer..

Golfsmith by me was throwing stuff for a while but they seemed to stop doing it or I wasn't catching it at the right time. Now they've moved on and closed. PGA superstore is too far from me but they have a compactor back there, so...

Had some good finds on my work trip.

Hogan FT Worth 1 Iron

Tour Blade JP Custom Grind PW in great shape to go with my set of Tour Blades.

TW 855 Wedge that looks like it’s never been hit to go with Golden Rams.

Tour blade 9 iron with stiff shaft

Wilson 8843 putter with original grip

Bullseye Putter O Set 5 A. Whatever that means. Original grip as well. Gonna shine it up like I did my other one.
