What would you decide to do? Hypothetical

Today someone gives you the following offer:

 

Pay $10,000 and you can play anywhere on the planet all costs coverered with three other people to join you for the next year.

 

But if you do this, you can't golf for the following seven years.

 

Assume that during the year you dont have to work but still get paid. Essentially a one year vacation.

Where did that come from? I can't believe someone actually came up with that scenario. Besides, where do you find 3 other people that will want to spend the next 12 months with you doing nothing but playing golf? Ya, they might want to play with you once a week or so, but every day, traveling , living, etc with you and the others for a full 12 months? Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

 

No.....I don't make the payment. Golf is a treat and I'll keep it that way.

Sorry I meant you can bring any three people you want. Essentially you can play golf in the foursome you choose at any course any time.

Had a summer where a group of us basically just played golf all over world. We did throw in some work, but that was very limited. People at our club still like to bring up that trip and how they regret not doing it with us.

 

In other words, where do I sign up?

Seven years is way too long to give up golf.

 

The year sounds incredible, but I suspect, regardless of how awesome it is in theory, you would hit the wall at some point in time.

 

I my age, 52, coming back to a normal life after that would be next to impossible. The following 7 years would be hell without golf.

No thanks. I like playing golf. A bit of travel is nice. Traveling the world for a year playing golf isn't that attractive to me, never mind that I would then be forced to give up the game.

Nope, not a chance. Tomorrow is a gift and not a promise. No guarantees. So I will take it as it comes, treat golf like it is meant to be treated by those of us who don't make a living doing it, and enjoy each and every round to the fullest - as if it is the last round. Because you just never know when it will be.

$10,000 for any courses you want + travel is insanely cheap. You can fly first class, private, stay wherever, and you're on a paid vacation for an entire year to boot.

 

And you could literally travel as much or as little as you wanted. If you felt like playing Augusta National for 3 weeks in a row, you could just stay there and bring wave after wave of buddies in.

 

And if you didn't feel like playing golf, you don't have to - you're still getting paid, and can go wherever you want to.

I take (this person) up on it, pay the $10,000 and play for the year with fun people, one being my attorney. In the last month I have him put the paperwork together for an age discrimination lawsuit (being 65) and no contract mentioned. I also get on Twitter and Facebook and post sad grandpa pics of myself with my clubs in the background and how I won't be able to play again until I'm 72. Lots of people get upset and support me, my attorney gets me back my $10,000, and I post thank you to all my new social media friends who want to golf with me and have cried over my sad pic I posted... Somehow I get to now play for free the rest of my life because of all the support money, most of which I give to charity anyway, and I ask that no charges be brought against the person who started the whole thing illegally, who incidentally was also in the original foursome...

While that sounds great, there's no way I could not play for 7 years. If it was like a year of playing and then no golf for a year then maybe haha. I mean I have another hobby (fishing) but I can't not play golf for that long haha.
