Project X flighted progression

I have searched and found some information on which shafts are high mid and low but not a definitive answer.

I have a set of 6.5 flighted shafts, if I understood correctly long irons are higher launch, mid is normal PX straight in and short irons are lower launch. This is done by cutting 7.0 shafts to play 6.5 in long irons, again mid is regular PX the same as a non-flighted set and short irons are 6.0 shafts tipped to play 6.5. Weight goes down from long to shorter shafts.

If I am right, which shafts are which? I've heard 1, 2, 3 and 4 are 7.0's that go higher 5, 6, 7 are standard PX normal PX flight. 8, 9, W are 6.0's that go lower (all in my case of a 6.5 set) .

I've also heard the 5 iron is the end of the 7.0 higher flight shafts and 6 is the first normal shaft. Help!

I can find no info except for here! Can anyone clear this up for me? Specifically I need to know is the 5 iron shaft normal or higher launch? I'm hitting my 5 a little too high and spinny for my liking.

Thanks!!

That is how my foggy memory remembers it but cannot say with clarity. I do love them in my irons though.

I think it's the other way around. Lighter to heavier going from long to short iron. Long irons play like a 6.25 and short irons play like a 6.75.

6.0 tipped long iron, 6.5 straight in mid, 7.0 butt trimmed for short irons.

I could be wrong though.

I thought it was this way too. Looser / softer in the long irons and more stout in the short. Seems that 7.0 in the long irons even just butt trimmed is still the same as straight in, unless he's referring to soft stepping which would still be at least two soft steps - which doesn't make sense in my head when you could just put a 6.0 into the long irons or even hard step a 6.0 once into the long irons. It's also compounded by the flighted line playing .5 different than the regular line. PX Flighted 6.5 = PX non-Flighted 6.0.

I know there has been a few threads in the past about this which I'm assuming the OP has already found.

I can totally see y'alls version of flighted shafts being correct.

I do think the heavier shafts are soft stepped and the lighter shafts are hard stepped. Now we just have to figure which goes where haha.

To keep the same flex in longer irons you have to take a stiffer shaft and soft step them.

Short irons are a lighter flex over trimmed to get the correct flex and keep the flight down

Middle irons are straight in

Nowadays though you can make a flighted set of a different kind since rifle only make 4.0 5.0 6.0 7.0 in whole flexes and its too different to use seperate flexes together.

Now they are just cut on a steeper slope using the same shaft.

This is from Howards.i hope my memory serves me well

PXF is not the same shaft as standard, but the best understandable compare is that LONG irons is soft stepped from a stronger flex, and short irons is hard stepped from a softer flex.

LONG

1-2-3-4

MID

5-6-7

SHORT

8-9-P

But, LOFT is LOFT so why dont you just tweak loft if ball flight is wrong?

It does NOT matter at all if we take down loft by 1 using a shaft that bend less, or do it by reducing static loft, its the same thing its LOFT.

Howard just to clarify, the opening question of this thread was which irons were classified as long, mid and short. I still have gotten word from TT on this.

In a flighted set of PX the 5,6 and 7 irons are the same as PX's non flighted 5,6 and 7 irons?

Thanks!

The shafts is NOT the same shaft but close.

Flighted is both stronger and longer than standard when we measure butt CPM alone, then Flighted becomes softer further down the shaft, so the answer is that MID irons is NOT the same as standard.

Flighted is different for both long, mid and short in Project X, while with RIFLE FCM mid irons is the same for both.

Thank you for the clarification! I don't think I've heard this response before so it is great to finally know.

Would you say the flighted mid is a touch higher and spinner than its non flighted counterpart? Most likely hardly noticeable?

T/B (tip to butt) ratio is a bit higher on flighted, so if the player has a aggressive load and late release, those flighted MID irons should be a tad higher than standards. This specs is all #6 iron shaft with standard vs Flighted for 6.0 and 6.5 flex

BUTT CPM on UNCUT shaft is all the way to the right.

The first row with numbers from the left is the same spot at BUTT but now with a 454 grams weight instead of 265 grams we use for

BUTT. This part of the shaft is partly cut off down to play length, so its the combination of the 2 row to the left who makes the Butt on the play ready club, and here we can see that F is a tad stronger than standard.

From row 3 who is 26" BEAM (26 inch is length outside the clamp) we can se that F goes softer VS standard,

We then end up with a F shaft with a stiffer butt and softer tip than standard = higher T/P ratio = higher launch
