Half inch shorter G30 driver, where to add swing weight and how much ?

Nipped half inch off the butt, feels exactly right length wise, centre of club peppered with ball marks after today's round but feels a bit too light now.

What amount and where to add weight to correct it.

When you say it feels too light, is that from just holding it and 'waggling' it in your hands? Or does it feel too light during a real swing? Should only use the latter to make a proper judgement.

 

1/2" would generally equate to about ~5 gm in a driver to get the same SW but that doesn't necessarily mean the same feel. It's best to just simply add a few grams at a time while hitting balls on the range until you get the desired feel.

 

Generally, it doesn't really matter where you put it for that amount. Just best to choose someplace that has a smooth surface for good adhesion and is not likely to hit the ground on a miss hit.

No doesn't have to be. Only real problem with lead tape is that some don't like it aesthetically. If that's an issue, you can get heavier versions of the head weight - but use the lead tape first to find out how much to increase it.

Not fussed as long as the weights there.

You could always add yarn to the head. Helps with the sound as well if it bothers you are much as it does me.

It should, just weight the yarn before you put it in to figure out how much you need.

yep. I actually have plastic grocery bags in mine right now but i think i am going to try the yarn. Its still to loud for me. I am actually considering a G because it doesn't sound as bad. Its the only thing i dont like about the G30.

Depending on where you put it, the lead tape can be even more effective with the sound if it's an issue.

I used hot melt to adjust head weight on my G30. Go in through the weight hole and put the hotmelt on the crown of the head. Added bonus is the sound improves from this. Technically speaking you are not supposed to add anything inside the head that can move, cotton balls, yarn, etc, or the club will be non conforming to the rules. This strikes me as a silly rule but none the less, if you are a stickler that's the way it is.

 

BTW, the G30 weights come in different weights and there are aftermarket weights available too which are heavier/lighter as necessary.

Sound of my ping is fine. Never had a drama.

I'll try and get lead tape as I don't have yarn.

I went to hardware shop and bought a longer M5 bolt.

Added a 4 gram washer under the stock weight.

Feels better but I will carry a spare and see if I need more.

The bolt for the head weight or the bolt holding the shaft on?

 

The bolt attaching my new G series head to the adapter was #10-32, definitely not M5. Didn't check the bolt for the weight but it looked the same as the one for the shaft. And since the adapter and aftermarket weights have not changed, it should be the same for the g30.

One in heel, took original to bolt shop,they put it in an M5 nut.

What can I say, hand feeding 8 grams of yarn is a giant PITA.

I don't play in tournaments, my handicap is above 20, and I hate the look of lead tape, so it was yarn for me!

Used a longer bolt and a 5g washer.

Still ended up with an M2 , spin way down now and longer/less sideways movement due to that.

How does Ping measure driver club length? Seems their measurements and mine are different. I have a White tie from a Cobra driver in my G30 LST and it feels better than the stock shaft length. I didn't do anything to the clubhead for weight... its longer, straighter but measures just under 45"
