Spieth - Time to rebuild his swing?

He struggled with anything other than the putter all week from my armchair.

What do you think? Grip, release, pivot motion far too timing related?

Too late now in the season though.

His mechancis are subpar.

that he is able to play so well is due to him being a great player in my opinion better than Tiger in that department.

He changed his gameplan, he made 4 birdies in a row, thought he made it the title was his and changed to playing consevertively, BUT his mechanics couldnt support that play and game so he lost it.

with the RBIm swing system behind him he be the champion now.

His decision to change his gameplan made him loose it.

so what do you call that?

Mental, attitude, bad judgement or whatever but thats when he lost the title thinking he got it.

Knows the secret to the golf swing to own it.

Classic arm chair commentary from the OP. I don't like his swing and I would never copy it, BUT the guy has played less than 100 events on tour and has 7 wins, two of which are majors. He was within a whisper of winning The Open 2015.

I think we need a quick sense check here, if Jordan drops one to 9 feet on 12 yesterday and cans the birdie then this thread would read, "how can I swing more like Jordan?"

Do you always make assumptions/put words in mouths.

only shows a ball distance or direction

Apologies, I was a bit hasty with the carriage return there that should read "I don't like his swing and I would never copy it, BUT - the guy has played less than 100 events on tour and has 7 wins, two of which are majors. He was within a whisper of winning The Open 2015. When I made reference to "I" this was my opinion. I don't like his swing and wouldnt copy it but he has had some stellar results.

He looks no more reliant on timing than most of the people held to be consistent and not dependent upon 'timing' IMHO

He was within touching distance of winning, that's the key thing.

He didn't seem very aware all four days from what I saw, perhaps not in the right place mentally. Acted like a spoiled brat. Called his coach in so maybe some doubt, that didn't strike me as a wise move; blamed the drop shot he chunked in the drink on not 'getting around' if memory serves; the business with the 'I'm calling you off' with the caddy, then stepping on the iron shot to prove a point; was a bit sharp with the rules official on relief, tried to put as much responsibility on him as possible it seemed; told the camera man to stay out of his face, was totally ingracious in interview; didn't even congratulate Willett in the presentation ceremony; lurked in the middle of the photo with a sour faced expression. In short, acted like a spoiled, immature 20 year old who thought the narrative revolved around him.

And still it could have been different very easily.

And that forgets Willett who could have pulled a 7 iron on the 16th, driver on 18, hit a bad chip...

So we have the Euro's now saying his swing stinks, hes a brat, he scolds people, and ignoring the champion. I get it. Loyalty to the fellow Euro who won it. Willett played flawless - no pressure, nothing to prove. Props to him. 2 weeks ago he wasnt even going to play. You guys on that side of the pond need to back off Spieth, he mucked up 12 and it cost him. Congrats to Willett who played incredible golf.

Im not a fanboy of Spieth, guy has lost more talent that I will ever have. And I love Willett's swing. Announcers were calling his shot shape something like a trap fade or something similar. Im a fader, not on his level of course, but I do prefer that shot shape. I thought his 3w on 18 and his approach shot were awesome. Even better was his chip on 17 to save par, thought for sure he was giving one back there.

Lets see how both of them respond.

Golf is such a mental game. Jordan steps up to the tee on the 12th after having made back to back bogeys. I am sure that was on his mind. He proceeded to put a tentative swing on the ball and did not get through it. I do not think he was entirely on his game most of the tournament and his mental game and course management allowed him to be in such a positive position. The choke factor was high and he succumbed to it. There is nothing wrong with his swing. He has an opportunity to come out of this mentally stronger.

From what I saw, if DJ had a hot putter, he would have run away with the tournament.

No idea what a 'fanboy' is. He might be English but have literally zero allegiance to anyone. Neither do I consider myself 'European'. You might be surprised to know that quite a few of us don't.

I thought Spieth carried himself with a lot of maturity last year. But I stand by what I said - this masters he acted like a spoiled child and everything else I saw. He's still learning I guess and maybe he's had people telling him how great he is since day one to cultivate an outlook like that. Who knows. It may have contributed.

But also what I said - the **key** thing is he was still within touching distance of winning and Willett could easily have made the slightest error that could have cost him. Don't think he needs to tear up his swing. He just... lost. He'll win many more I'm sure.

I've got nothing critical to say of Spieth's swing - clearly, he hits it well enough to get round the course with a bit of success.

However, quite apart from the obvious, I don't think this has been a good week for him. I can't say his behaviour this week has done much for me to warm to him.

It's bad enough that guys need to be put on the clock. To have the brass neck to complain about being put on the clock is too much. Especially if you go on to say that you were waiting for the weather to change before hitting your shot.

I also thought he looked graceless at the award ceremony. Maybe it's unusual in golf to have to be there, but it's common enough for tennis players to have to front up to the loss of a grand slam final as part of the award ceremony and many manage to do so with a lot more class than Jordan seemed able to muster.

On the other hand, I thought he showed a lot of bottle in the aftermath of 12 which is to his credit.

In fairness the swing (and more importantly, game) was good enough to be up by 5 with 9 to go.

Sh*t happens. If anything he would just need to work on what to do when he starts seeing those right-going-right shots. Had his C+ long game and was still in the hunt. Can't say either his misses were drastically worse than the Tiger/Phil/Bubba foul balls, so let's all take a breather before sounding the horn.

I totally disagree there was no pressure on Willet. He started the day only 3 off the lead, knew he had to go low and did. He wasn't in the final group but to say there was no pressure is ridiculous

Probably lost in translation - pressure compared to JS is what I meant. I should have stated that better. You are correct, Willett had pressure on him (as all the contenders did), but I will stand by my position that JS had more on him to repeat.

LOL..........I'm sure he was in a state of shock. In Butler Cabin when getting up from the chair to slip the green jacket on Danny, he appeared to loose his balance.

At least in tennis, your opponent beat you. In golf, your fellow competitors do not directly effect your ability to execute the shot.
