So have any of your courses put the rakes and ball washers back out yet? Or they still acting like it's April 2020?

I played Bowling Green last week and rakes were out, can't remember about ball washers because I use my own towel for that.

What I'm most excited for is courses ditching raised cups / noodles in the hole!

Some courses haven't had those types of holes since last fall. But once in awhile I find a few and it's very annoying.

I also started taking the flag out this year. The look of horror I received the first time I did was amusing.

Honestly no.

Agree  it’s a shorter course where you get killed by wind and pretty sloped quick greens. Oh yea  and the f****** green heads on the back 9  lol    It’s an excellent course but not worth the $$$$$    Ballamor harbor pines and twisted dunes are way just as good and way less $$

Hi All- new to the forum and recently moved to Monmouth County from MA.  I’m 36 and have two kids under 4 but still

manage to get out at least one morning a weekend and one weekday evening after work.  I have a few buddies I usually play with on the Monmouth county courses but looking to expand my golfer friend network down here!

I’ve been playing my whole life but have recently been really dedicated to getting better (8 handicap now from 12 last year).  Looking forward to meeting some people who are just as addicting to golf as I am!  Let me know if anyone wants to play!

Hi Griswold - I play the county courses in Monmouth pretty much every weekend. My wife generally plays with me but she is going to be stopping for the season due to some unexpected events, so I will be riding solo quite a bit. Always willing to partner up on the tee times since I will mostly be playing as a single myself.

Shore Gate would be on my list with Twisted Dunes and Ballamor

Can anyone comment on Twisted Dunes recently? Played it a bunch of times when I was still living in NJ which was over 5 years ago. The layout is great but always found the conditions to be underwhelming with bunkers literally filled with huge rocks. It made it on the recent Top 100 Value Courses in the country along with Architects and Knoll West so I was curious if Twisted stepped their game up recently and made some nice improvements.

Knoll West was one of the few public courses I haven't played but it's interesting to see Twisted and Architects make the national list. Always thought they were great courses but for my personal opinion there are a few others in the state I would rank higher (Neshanic Valley, Ballyowen, Heron Glen).

🏠 Bethpage Black | 🛠️ Callaway GBB 2015, Cobra Darkspeed 4W, Ping G425 3H, Srixon ZX4-ZX5, RTX Zipcore (48-54-58), Studio Select Newport 2

Played it last year and thought conditions were good, but it was with more spread out tee times and less play.  Heading there Thursday am on my way down to Williamsburg, so I will report back.

Twisted Dunes is in pretty good shape imo.  Course very green and lush.  Tee boxes solid.  Fairways were a touch wet, but understandable with the amount of rain recently.  Greens rolled well but a bit slow, again I chalk that up to the rain.

One comment I have to make.  When sand is provided on carts, use it...when you cause damage to a green with an approach shot, repair your ball marks.  That is the only issue I had with the conditions.

Past two years have been brutal. Have been booking tee times almost two weeks in advance

Even more brutal this year for what I believe are these 2 reasons:

1. It's like we live in Seattle now, so everyone trying to get a round in before the rain and wind hit. Btw these next 2 weekends are just rain soaked yet again.

2. Since, for the most part, people have decided to move on from Pandemic life and everything is open, people are looking to play in the morning so they can go and do things in the afternoon.

A lot of people got spoiled 2 years ago when golf was the only thing to do. Not the case anymore.

Yeah definitely. Ive been getting a county card for berkshire valley and you can start booking tee times for Saturdays 12 days in advance at 8pm on Tuesday. If you call at 8:01 the first tee time will be at 3pm. Absurd

Call? Is this 1996?

Can't you go online and book it? I find it much easier.

Thats crazy and makes sense considering whats available at 8pm on that Tuesday. I try and call at 7:58ish to at least get in line but its still hard to get a time.

I was on the phone on Tuesday, was getting ready to book the 9 am tee time for next saturday. The person on the phone took too long getting my information and by the time they were about to book it the tee time was gone and next available was after 2pm. I keep telling myself i won't get that county card anymore but its such a nice course to play

I was a year old in 1996 lol. Sometimes the app/website doesnt refresh at 8pm right away. Might try that next time but always thought the phone was faster

Back in the old days in 1996 we had to call on Sunday at 8 pm amd had to hit redial a zillion times to get a time the following week on Flanders.

Now I can hop online and get a decent time. Of course I admit, I am not an early morning golfer. Hell, I'm not am early morning anything, but I digress.

Maybe that's why I find online easier, no matter where I'm playing. 2 pm on Saturday is always open.

I’m also a Morris county resident. Berkshire and sunset valley are our usual go to courses to play, but there has been too many times where the entire morning is booked within minutes of the supposed tee times being posted.

I’ve also heard the rumors that sunset valley has a “boys club” with standing tee times.

One some occasions for Berkshire, I’ve asked how they have no tee times and I’ve been told they have an outing, which I think is lame. Should a county/municipal course have outings on weekend mornings? I also remember reading that an outing could be as little as like 12 guys, which would make it very easy to have a group of guys saying we have a standing outing every Sunday morning.

as a Morris county resident this sucks, because it’s almost like I’m locked out of early tee time postings everywhere now.

Play Flanders? It's 36 holes, easier to get times

Monmouth County is tough too.

You can book 7 days in advance starting at 8pm. By 8:01 you are pretty much at 2pm times.

I've stopped getting the county card.  Every other course includes an early booking window for semi-memberships, on top of reduced green fees.  Hell, black bear/crystal springs even gives you three free rounds a year with their rewards memberships along with a 21 day booking window and reduced green fees

I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same names being booked every week for these "outings" or at the very least they rotate the names so it doesn't look suspicious
