Callaway XR Pro or Titleist 915 D2 - Fitting Question

I recently went for a fitting for a new driver, and am trying to figure out which route to take. I don't think I found optimal numbers, but I do like both of the drivers I tried.

The first driver I tried was the Titleist 915D2, and after testing several shafts, the Rogue Silver X gave me the best numbers. My swingspeed averages around 105, probably get up to 108 at times and sometimes will go down to 103, but the X provided the most consistency. i don't have my sheet in front of my, but my launch was around 12.5-13, but spin was around 2800. Carry distance was around 265.

The feel of the XR Pro was fantastic and it produced a boring ball flight. If I wasn't on a monitor, I would have bought the club on the spot. I was testing the 9 degree with the 665 shaft in X flex. Spin was in the low 2000s, but launch was around 10. Carry distance was still very good. I tried adding loft, but lost 15 yards of distance.

Should I go with the driver that feels the best and puts up good numbers, or do I keep testing until I find something that's 13-14 with 2000 spin? I tried the M1 and hated it. I also have a Bio Cell + that I could probably just reshaft and get some pretty good numbers.

I'm a good player, about a 4 handicap, and I want to have good distance, but most importantly I was to be consistent. Is it worth trying out more and more shaft/head combos? Does it actually make a big difference? Or am I just wasting time trying to find perfect numbers so that I can potentially add 7 more yards when I catch it perfect?

From a golf forum perspective you tinker until optimal.......

From a real world golfer, you go with what you like and feels best to you. Most of us would gladly give up 7yards for better consistency and more fairways hit.

I don't know too many guys that after hitting their drives right down the middle and then saying.....man I wish I hit this 7 yards more so I would have 143 instead of he 150 in I have now.

But I do hear many say man I would've been better hitting 3 wood off the tee instead of having to punch out....

Depends on weather you play golf on the course or play launch monitor.

Maybe the 915D3 would give you the ball flight you are after and distance you want. Probably worth popping that head on the Rogue Silver from the D2.

I am currently gaming a 816 GBB DBD and it feels amazing, however, the only club that beats it in feel and easy distance is the Callaway Sub-Zero. That's just launch monitor stuff, but the head is supposed to be 0.5 degrees more loft than the DBD which is good for me. Check out the DBD and Sub-Zero if you can find a shop that will let you hit one without buying it. It was longer for every single one of our employees.

I currently own both the 816 DBD and 16' XR Pro. I expected the XR to be more forgiving than it is, but it's not impossible to hit. Neither driver is anywhere in the realm of disappointing. I've actually found on misses with the XR towards the toe, the ball will fall straight out of the sky on me, where as the 816's cor locations allow you to move it towards your miss a little bit and you can salvage some yardage. Neither is forgiving, but both are great drivers.

I did NOT get along with the stock speeder shaft in the XR. I hated it to be honest. The 757x (grey and red model) is my favorite shaft I've ever hit, but the new evo's just don't do it for me at all. I also didn't care for the rogue in the 816.

I think the 816 would allow you to loft up and adjust the cor down to reduce spin more than the XR would. I still can't decide between the two. The 816 is a bomber and probably best for optimal numbers, but the XR Pro is not far behind and a bit more user friendly, if you will. That being said, there's nothing quite like catching that 816 on the screws. I believe the XR is a bit lighter, which does throw me off a bit. Nothing some lead tape can't fix, but OTR, the 816 is a better fit for me, but I do swing the XR a little faster. Since callaway doesn't offer an open-face setting, I've become even more happy with the 816 as the weight in the toe really does make a difference. The XR draws all the time on me, but the 816 with the weight in the toe allows me to make a more aggressive swing from the inside.

TCANN32 i agree with everything you say

Did we just become best friends?! Haha

Of course .....got a question for you im hitting a rapture 3 wood old schoo; one i have had it for a long time almost my second driver deep face rocket launcher .....can you tell me a little about the GBB 3 WOOD kinda looking

I haven't hit the rapture before, but the 2014 BB fairway I've been gaming has been irreplaceable for me. It's been in my bag for 2 seasons now, and nothing has earned that kinda mileage haha.

It feels great, and is definitely forgiving. One of my favorite parts about it is the sole and the way it sits at address and the lie angle of it. I'm not overly tall (5'10") so a lot of std length fairways really look and feel like the toe sits up at address off the deck and this one does not. Sound and feel are fantastic as well. Best part is that if you don't have one, you can find one for under $50 Im sure lol. Great off the deck (which is the way I need to judge fairways for myself) as the face isn't real tall. Through all the demoing I've done, it's kept up with the newest models of the callaway line, and beats all the others I've tried. The XR stuff is a tad longer I think, but not enough to trade for what I've found with this one.

If you were referring to the newer GBB, it's the most forgiving FWY I've ever hit. More forgiving than my 2014 BBA, but not quite as long. If I had to pick something new tomorrow, I'd probably go with the XR16 Pro fairway though. Very small profile, and basically a rocket launcher lol.
