I do think it was a big mistake to represent himself but clearly Poles had no idea how to be a GM negotiating with a player. Sure it's difficult using kid gloves while remains firm in what's best for the team financially. He just failed miserably. Demanding a trade is pretty routine during contract negotiations and all the players said they understood. So I am not a fan and actually think he is just another in a long line of bad Bear GM's. 

... And again with so few veteran leaders, Montgomery has tremendous value above and beyond his physical skills. If you are a really good team and trade away a team leader and great player, you can recover. On bad team where attitudes can get out of control, trading leaders is a recipe for player revolt or worse, apathy. Regardless of what us fans think, a GM and a HC has to have the respect of the players. If they don't, you have season like we have watched in Detroit til they got a HC the players love and respect. 

... Long story short my senior year in high school we got a new HC that wanted to start a sophomore at QB because the first season was a throw away while we learned a new system. No leadership from a HC at all telling seniors it is a throw away season but he wanted me to play safety so he could start a sophomore and have a jr as a back up. I had to transfer to a county school. Prima donna from a big city school I was not well received. I was winning them over slowly until the coach gave me the 2nd string and since I arrived now 3rd string QB #12 jersey as #30 was the only number left. Brian was a senior and respected by the team because he was small but tough, think Rudy, and he had always worn #`12. So I traded jerseys and wore #30. Coach said he makes those decisions and I would either wear #12 or take a seat on the bench. I took a seat and the team actually cheered. Coach changed his mind and those guys would have run through a brick wall for me. 25 years later, unknown to my parents they hired Brian to replace their roof. He did it at cost and said he is still grateful to their son he didn't have to wear #30. You can never under estimate leadership.

Tenderloin of Beef Medium.

Scrambled eggs.

Bacon strips.

Saute'd Shrimp in a tomato garlic sauce.

Cinnamon roll and buttermilk biscuit. 

 

Beverage- Club soda with lime tall. 

 

 

I may have to come back in another life as a waiter at the country club in Ashville.  I had to suffer something similar at the Breckenridge Inn when I was a ski bum and working the front desk there.

... Played at 6'1". LOL, every QB has a favorite receiver! I did run a lot in high school both executing the option and scrambling, but passing was my strength. Sadly my 1971 coach didn't like passing as much as running. Here he is explaining that to me and then me scrambling. Note 2 hands on the football in the pocket, one of my pet peeves in the NFL as so many don't practice that fundamental and it results in soooooo many fumbles as defensive players skip the hit and just strip the ball:

Chisag will remember this from his WOOW days in Greenville NC. There was a college bar pub pizza joint called The Crows Nest. Not as upscale as what you showed but decent pub grub and Pizza. The building had history though. It was the second Hardees ever opened ( first was in Rocky Mount NC) I can remember my grannie taking me to it on my visits there. The man who started Hardees was Mr Wilbur F Hardee and his farm was about 2 miles from my grand daddy's farm. We knew him well

Drunk and looking for trouble this 6' 250lb Bubba took a swing at me and I hit him with my long neck beer bottle in the temple. Two things surprised me. While he was stunned he didn't go down but more surprising is the bottle didn't break! (where is the property department when you need it?) Putting my scrambling ability to good use I managed to escape like Brave Sir Robin yelling "Run Away! Run Away!"

Nightly occurance at the Crows Nest

I was in there one night around 1976 or so with a buddy of mine and it was right before I got out of the Navy. Now this guy I had known him since I was a kid was about 50 or so. Short but muscular. 2 ECU football players started some crap with him. He told them to leave him alone and if they did not they would regret it. They laughed in him calling him like "Old Man" and stuff. I was in the Navy and was pretty tough and had been in quite a few bar room brawls myself. I went over and asked if there was a problem? Shorty told me no that he could handle it for me to go back over and play with the brunette I was playing with. Next thing I know lightning fast he plowed one of them and got the other one. He actually messed them up and put one in the hospital. Come to find out my buddy Shorty was the all Navy boxing champion from 1942 until 1945. When he had gotten out he took Martial arts and held several black belts. When the cops came they declined on arresting Shorty because everyone told him the football players started it and he tried to diffuse the situation. Shorty had no drivers license and I gave him a lift home that night. He invited me in and showed me the scrapbooks. My aunt had known him since he was a kid and told me that he was a good guy but do not cross him

He pressed the cocaine button til he died in a couple months. That ended my illegal drug days.

Old photo days, since I went to school in North Tonawanda NY and college in Niagara Falls, snow was a way of life, so I played in it year round, this was me in July, well, maybe that's not exactly true ... this was actually back in Ohio before the world changed over to color, keep dragging out the old pics!
