Oh man, that’s one of my musical heroes. Yeah, Tom can be hit or miss. And his misses can be unlistenable (not sure if that’s a word, but after giving @Soloman1 some good natured grammar s**t, I’m offering an opening for a return shot). 
 

Most of Closing Time and Nighthawks at the Diner is good.  Nearly every song on Heart of Saturday Night is outstanding. Then there’s Mule Variations - the songs Hold On, House Where Nobody Lives, Georgia Lee, and Take It With Me, are just stunning (amidst some really weird and bad songs).

Seen some pretty good looking moves get blasted over in the Instruction forum. 

Videos can be personally damaging too. I once decided that I wanted to give a shot at playing in the amateur invite events around the country. I went up to a teaching pro in So Denver who was involved with several pros on tour. He spent some time with me reviewing videos from all angles. I thought I had a good swing, and had heard so from others, but to me it looked like crap. He said I was laying it off a little and was moving my head a bit too much on takeaway.  We worked on this for the next two weeks in several sessions. 
 

For the next month on the range or course, all I could focus on was my stupid shadow and where I thought my club or head was.  Forget about actually thinking target (my usual only on course swing thought) or even looking at the golf ball. Game and handicap went to h*ll. Forget tournaments. I was struggling to break 80. 
 

Took me a year or more to get back at least close to my original game. Never again.

I’d be willing to bet there are ppl that intentionally misspell/misuse terms and phrases just to tempt “that guy”. I recall a member saying that he intentionally came after/insulted members just to “see how they would react”. 😳

Yes when I first came to this place like many I was wtf on some of the spelling word choices

and etc etc but English is a foreign language for some even some who grew up speaking it

as my wife would say....."stop majoring on the minors".....so I did as long as I can figure out

what someone is trying to say and I have an affinity for long run on sentences so I am living

in a glass house

Racing circles it is called 200MPH tape and trust me it does that. When I was racing I bought it from Racer Wholesale out of Atlanta. Now that stuff was expensive at like $15 per roll back then. You could order it in different widths. That stuff was tough as in military grade. Actually you had to take a heat gun to get it off. I had plastic nose pieces I had patched with the stuff that lasted several years.

Yep I got into that same rabbit hole one time. We had an instructor dude that worked through our golf shop (One of Big Johns Deals). He got to messing with me and got into my head and I got where I could not play a lick. My other instructor bud who I played a lot of golf with told me one day "to flush my mind and go back to hitting the ball my natural way" LOL I shot like 70 that day on a tough course. Never again I do things my way right or wrong. Now I have had to change my swing some due to injury but I did do it my way. And I will not say like those gurus in I&A that my way is the correct way and the only way. I will only say it works for me and leave it at that.

I speak like I speak and write like I speak and how ever I write. I do not apologize for it either. I am me take it or leave it. I can remember one night some Richard Noggin said something about the way I phrased my paragraphs on the old Confessions thread. I remember several including DeNinny jumped his butt. Never heard from him again.

At my old church we had a dear sweet lady that was a retired English teacher from up North. She would get riled up at some of us Southern guys for the way we "butchered the English language" I had enough one Sunday and in one of my moods. I told her to buckle up Buttercup that this was no High School English class and we were in the South. She turned as red as a fire truck and never heard another peep out of her.

Your vision was 110% correct. That is what that stuff is with extra adhesive. Same grade of stuff they used in Nam to patch bullet holes in PBR boats and I have seen it used on airplanes too.

Actually, not really attempted.  I did receive two different rather fantastic invites to two different West PA clubs a while back, but sadly one was before I'd started playing again at all, the other was less than a week after my very first round, and I was just not ready.  I am hoping to do some inviting of my own this coming season -- looking at joining somewhere, definitely not Oakmont, but will be far better to the pretty poor public golf 'round here.

 

Note for the etiquette forum.....step off and don't sweat my Smartwool socks, and I don't turn my hat backwards unless I just doubled a Par 3 (no hazard) followed with bogey on an easy Par 5.  Needed a rally!
