Plus the owner who used to be a friend I chapped his butt pretty bad when he made a comment in the store about a year ago about my long hair. With that company in most positions being a revolving door I doubt I would know anyone up there anyhow. So as far as I am concerned they can shove it no need for me to burn gas to go up there

Yea, I wouldn't go back there either. I'm lucky to have had almost 38 years with a great company for the most part. It's only been the last year or so that they've lost their minds. Started to get a bunch of college educated idiots in upper management that couldn't sell water to you if you were on fire. I'm sure my reginal manager will celebrate like crazy the day I'm gone.😅

Yep and working at one especially being a mechanic people will not leave you alone. When I worked at the tourist trap Executive/Par3 up the road I could hardly go on the course or range without someone coming out and bothering me on some BS problem. I would get calls at night since the place was lighted and had a range some BS like a flat tire on a golf cart when they had spare tires, a jack and a 4 way wrench in the cart barn. And it would not even be in a crisis mode because they had plenty of carts. When I was a mechanic for the concrete company if I was on call and got a call out it was a minimum of 4 hrs pay. The Tourist Trap would not even give me 2 hrs minimum. I used to drag it out. I finally got tired of the crap and quit.

After rebuilding several VW engines in many years past and countless “wasted” hours wrenching on muscle cars (Chevelle SS and GTO’s) I tried to help a buddy with his 356. Didn’t work out great. Whoops, but that solved the “helping” issue!

 

My mom had an Olds 442. She would skip second gear when she drove 😳. You could lay a scratch a block long. Mom kept commenting on her poor tire life. Sorry, love you mom, hope you’re not reading this. She wouldn’t let us add headers, so we would turn the air filter cover over when we drove. We thought we were the coolest guys in town. 😀 The guys at Ken’s Esso (yes that many years ago) kept offering to buy it. She was known as the hot mama in the hot car. After a couple of years my left leg was larger than my right. The clutch throw was that long and stiff.

It was mandatory in the 60's to flip the air cleaner cover over so you could get every precious little bit of air down the carb.😅

LOL that lasted longer than you thought.  I had a '71 Firebird and an '81 Buick I did the same thing to.  It sounded cool so it definitely added 25 HP.

Same here. My boss convinced me to stick around an extra couple of months, for reasons I still don’t understand. I told him that I wouldn’t travel at all - I’d had enough of airports during my career. I played golf most days and was on a few calls, but I got paid for an extra couple of months. Since I worked from home, there really wasn’t the possibility of the farewell party, or so I thought. One of my team members was coming to Dallas and planned a dinner. I showed up and my whole team was there. Completely surprised me. I still stay in touch with many, but the time between touch points keeps getting longer. The upshot is the new friends I’ve made in retirement. Since they’re mostly local, the friendships are deeper.

On that ‘81 Regal I was starting with about 98 so every little bit helped. 
 

What a POS that car was! Motor was totally tired and worn out at 70k. They bring good $ now for collecting…..I don’t get it.

Back is okay. Only play twice a week this time of year. Have lost 30+ lbs on Wegovy, so that must be helping also.

Had a solid spring/summer this year with some nice finishes. Pleased with my game for the most part. 

And work is going gangbusters. Will have my best year ever, financially, but almost double. But ... working 50+ hours a week, so not much time for golf except Friday afternoon and weekends. 

Wife still tolerates me.

Have a new grandson who just took his first steps.

It’s a good time to be retiring instead of going into the job market, @braincramp52.

 

My wife is quite a bit younger than me, far too young to be retired. She needs to be active. No children to dote over, so she thought she’d go back to work for a year or two if she found something she wanted. She’d put maybe $300K away and take another break.

 

She’s always been in the luxury goods business. She’d fly off to Paris and help design and open stores for Cartier in the US. Opened stores for Escada - high-end women’s clothing. Cheapest thing in the store is about $2,500…

 

So, an Italian company is opening a store in Glendale, AZ and looking for a manager. A sweater is at least $1,200 and a beanie cap (with logo) is $400. You probably can’t walk out without spending $3,000. Her kind of place.

 

She gets an email in one day for a video interview with the NY people and did it yesterday. They made an offer after 20 minutes. No second interview needed.

 

The NY people asked when she’d be relocating.

 

Relocating? Glendale is only a 20 minute drive.

The job was in Glendale, California. They couldn’t even get the state right in the job description. And opening in Glendale, CA? Are they nuts? Anyway, she left them nicely and if they open in Scottsdale, they said they’d give her a call.

Had to go look up Wegovy. In that group with Ozempic, etc. Have heard about many going

that route to lose weight. Off label use of prescription drugs getting more common.

 

I take 2 drugs off label myself to battle hair loss. Oral Minoxidil and oral Finasteride. The

first is a blood pressure med and the 2nd is a prostate med. My dermatologist prescribes

them for me "off label". They are effective in very small doses compared to the dosage

needed for their originally intended use. In my case, with the small dose I take, I have

no side effects. I wish I had started taking them sooner.

The answer is yes and no. The sad truth is most of us (who inherit male pattern baldness) have

already lost half our hair by the time we realize we are losing hair. We're already way behind the

8 ball at that point.

 

These drugs are pretty good at preserving what hair we have left. Regrowing hair that has

been lost has been a tough nut to crack. First off there is no money in it. If ever a cure for

baldness was discovered, the cure would not be considered a medical necessity. Instead it

would be viewed as a cosmetic treatment and insurance companies won't cover or pay

for it.

 

With that in mind few are even bothering to go down the road of research and clinical

trials, etc. Better to spend research $$ on real medical problems; cancer, etc., where

the payoff potential is huge.

 

These drugs currently used for hair loss were developed for other reasons and were

accidentally discovered to help hair loss and even regrow some hair. But these drugs

currently in use are old; developed 30-40 years ago.

 

So, really the key is to spot hair loss early and get on these drugs to save what hair

you have left.

 

Now, some of these drugs will actually regrow some hair on some people. Some

can get some pretty good regrowth and while some get none. It varies by individual.

There have been some trials using microneedling on the scalp in combination with

minoxidil and finasteride that have had some limited success regrowing lost hair.

 

Full regrowth though has not happened as far as I know. 

 

Hair follicles don't actually die. They just miniaturize. If you look at a bald head under

a magnifier you can see all the tiny miniaturized hairs. The hair is all still there; it's

just too tiny to see with the naked eye.

 

I have been on these meds for 3 years and they have definitely stopped any further

hair loss. I have had some regrowth. The bald spot on the crown at the back of my

head is slowly getting smaller. Overall my hair has gotten thicker and healthier.

 

I probably shouldn't care at my age, lol. My wife doesn't. It just kinda bugs me I guess.

The prescriptions cost me so little because they are generic and I don't have any side

effects so why not? I'll die with a little more hair, lol.

 

And you guys with full heads in old age......just shut up already!😃

Nice post Conrad. Thankfully I’m still good but  have thought about how I would feel. We all want to believe we are confident, mature men that don’t need hair to feel good about ourselves. But obviously given the choice, we would all choose a full, thick head of hair. I’ve decided when the time comes, I will just embrace it and deal with it without any outside help. But we shall see.
