I'll anonymously poke around in the WRX wastelands. For S & G's, and to stay abreast of current events.  Occasionally need a dosage of some self-righteous indignation with my morning coffee.  Rarely understand any of the I & A chatter though.  Was going to inquire WTH this star chart was all about, and what's in it for me.  But wised up before posting.  A babe in the woods.

I’ve used Carnac in reference to Clevited in there. He’s the burr under my saddle!😀

 

The instruction parts that always get me are the (I’m guessing here) positions. P1, P4, etc. Guys saying I’m trying to do this or that at P5. 

 

Too much for me, I’m just trying to get it airborn and somewhat in the intended direction.

Yes, I’ve mentioned him a couple of times in here. He really rubs me the wrong way. @bladehunter will likely weigh in as he’s gone back and forth with him a couple of times. 

I do not argue with people like that. I have always done things my way right or wrong whether it is racing, golf or even running a sound board. But I am open to learning in the fact the way I am wired my mind is always seeking fresh information. I am not so narrow minded as to think my way is the only correct way to do things. But I will not argue with those that think their way is the ONLY way. I guess I drew my attitude from being around my old man that thought his way was the only way whether golf or life

I’ve been here quite a while (since 2009 I think). I’ve learned a lot, equipment, courses, etc. Even some rules stuff, if the “experts” don’t get all sanctimonious on you😀. They lost Sawgrass from that thread who was always very cordial and helpful if a “non expert” had a question. He’d actually answer instead of “look it up, it’s rule #….blah, blah, blah. 
 

Problem is now I want to go to Bandon Dunes because of the travel section. And I can’t afford it. 

Too much argument in the rules section. And like I have said before at times the Rules of Golf would take a room full of Philadelphia Lawyers and 5 Supreme Court justices to argue. Don't believe me take a look at some of the Rules Decision books. Now I will say in recent years there has been an effort to simplify the rules. When I played comp etc I would attend a Rules seminar every winter to keep up. When I quit comp I got slack on the rules because I did not care I just did as countless others did just play with the whatever the guys in the group went with. When I went with the league in April I decided to dig deep into the rules including the new ones. I did most of my research via the computer on the USGA web site.

🤣 being an opinionated jerk myself - I have to say , I think somewhere in there is a nice guy.  But he certainly does make me look at myself and try to shut up. The last go round when I got tired of it and decided it was ALL a selfish argument, and he declared himself to not be selfish….. that was special Ed.  Of course it’s all a selfish argument.   We want what we want.  And NONE of it is a need. It’s all a want.  But I do defend him a bit.  He reads as a nice person.  Not nasty. Just has an incredible blind spot when taking about the golf ball and equipment.

I just get tired of the constant talking down to people. The attitude that “im exasperated trying to explain this to  you”.  He might be a nice guy, but he’s also one of the most condescending posters I’ve ever read. 
 

And someone really should explain the difference to him between subjective and objective. 
 

Oh well, if I just stay out of there then it won’t bother me. New Year’s resolution, don’t go in that thread.

What in the actual......is that?  LOL.  I guess the software didn't provide enough information so someone had to draw lines in four different colors on there too.

 

I can imagine some use of something like this for a teaching professional -- studying what is happening and why, and maybe figuring out different ways to explain and teach.  That, I get.

 

A student getting balls deep in there can't do any good.

I don't know. Sometimes it's the thread being watched and sometimes it's the poster. ....

and sometimes it's both. 

 

It used to be that threads needing constant moderation were thrown into the cooler and

at least you knew your posts had to be "approved" before they showed up in the thread.

Threads went in to the cooler to die.

 

I don't get out into the WRX wild much anymore. Have things changed a lot in recent

years?

Don't know.  A few weeks back, there was commentary here in the Grille about wild and crazy swing theory posts in I & A.  So off I went in search of the preposterous.  Took only a couple minutes to find this attachment.  Don't remember the thread.  Figured that will do, and saved it for future use when the timing was right.  Was a substantiating reference point (??) made in a swing analysis discussion.  Didn't bother trying to figure it out.  My mission had been accomplished.

I think that’s still all true. They did approve the post. 
 

I went back and looked at some of the cooler threads the other day. Some it’s easy to see why they’re there. Others not so much so.

Feeling so sorry for you solo. 🤓It’s gonna snow here tomorrow. And I hate winter. But I have trips planned down, I’m guessing, down your way to Scottsdale and Palm Springs end of January. And I’m meeting several former teammates in Dublin in Feb for the Ireland - Wales 6 Nation match. I played rugby for 12 years, starting in college. 
 

So yeah. Life’s okay. I’ll survive winter. Trying to get my wife to agree with a full time or snowbird move (AZ, central Cal coast, Florida) but so far no luck. Same woman I drug kicking and screaming from Nashville to Minneapolis, and then 5 years later from Minneapolis to Colorado. Something about that second X chromosome and roots.

Sometimes it is a word or phrase that triggers something in the software program and thus a red flag. It was either in here or in the Lounge one night. @miamistomp and I were discussing motorcycles and I used the slang term for a Triumph motorcycle. It just so happens that name is a musical instrument that the first 5 letters happen to be the name of a certain fellow who lives in Florida now. It got what I call red lighted. of course I assume one of the Mods reviewed it and approved it because it was far from being in violation in any shape form or fashion or intent for that matter.

Good call Stu. I bet that’s what it was. Since I mentioned the instrument that Louis Armstrong used to play (and with that name drop I summed up all of my music knowledge).

I have spent more time in I&A than anywhere here. Learned a lot but most all of it is just tip of the iceberg logic. Any validation usually came from outside of there and forums in general. Used to be better, but many smart voices walked due to the inherent contrarian camps always there. Places like that also highlight the sociological aspects of social media and much of that is pretty unflattering. So I don't say much, I've given up on gear and bigger questions about the game itself. Because in the end it is all selfish and parochial. I define a "good game" my way and others define it there's and it's somewhat pointless to try to alter that. Sports is adversity without true consequence. Fake "battle" that we can shrug and walk away from, a distraction from real life. Golf is maybe the only game one can be a kid well into Depends years, and is a solitary endeavor that also acts as a social watering hole. So it all works for me.
