Way out of my lane chatting about blades.  Never hit Mizunos or Titleist.  But over the last 10 years (since joining WRX) have had a fair number of MB's come through the door (and leave).  Classic Hogans, Wilsons, a Ram set, Maxfli AB's amongst others.  I'd find them on the cheap, why not.  Think the first were garage sale FG-17's find.  Set of Redlines came and went.  Anyhow.  Without question, the '99 Hogan Apex MB's provided the most playability in my hands.  Once I got the stiff shafts out, and installed Nippon 950 R's.  Not for hitting 175 yard 4 iron shots, but an 8 iron from 130 was quite sublime.  I've made the argument before that '99 Apex's are for those that think they can't hit a blade.  Was at a point in time when I had a tolerate/hate relationship with i20's.  The Hogans were a revelation and easier to hit with a measure of consistency compared to the Pings.  And didn't understand why that was the case.  I've since sold them off (such as it is with implements), but they were really fun to play.  

 

 

 

Still have the Apex II's around.  Been trying to sell them on the local MP for over a year.  Nobody wants old blades, even at $100.  Might as well hang on to them at this point.  To occasionally abuse myself when the game gets to easy.

My favorite set of irons I've ever bagged. Everything about them was perfect in my eyes (and hands).

 

I now have a combo set of the '99'MB 6-E & Tourstage Z101 3-5 (my 2nd favorite set), along with Exotics CB2 3+ & 5WD, and a Nakashima NP-1 Driver. It seems like an abomination to stick a PING eye 2 BeCu  SW & LW, in the bag but nothing is/was ever better.

Growing up, as I did in SoCal, there are Spanish names everywhere. Seemed most of the

cities had Spanish names. Funny thing is that even with several years of taking Spanish

up through high school I never did "speak" Spanish. I do know what a lot of words mean

though, FWIW, which is very little, lol.

 

I can see how people from other areas might associate Spanish words with food. I do

the same with Italian words. They all mean food to me. Mangia!!

Was just curious, one of my favorite movies, Glengary Glennross, popped into my head, and the term “Rio Rancho” from the movie did, make me think of chips! So was curious if anyone else and @Jim53 said the same

"Coffee is for closers".  One of my favorite movies as well.  When you make your living in the sales game, such as I did, watching Glengarry for the first time was chilling.  The Alec Baldwin scene.  

 

Now I can about the rest of my day getting ready for the next two.  Maybe I'll whip up some chips and cheese for a snack latter.  TFP.

Oops, I need to qualify my previous statement on Italian words all making me think of food.

 

Actually, there are a few of us music buffs that do "read" music and have to learn the

meaning of many Italian words. I love all those words and music just would not be the

same if those words were in English. Italian is the language of music.

 

Words like adagio or fortzando or legato. Actually "piano" is an Italian word. A piano

was originally called a pianoforte because it could be played quietly or loudly, unlike

it's predecessor, the harpsichord, which could only be played at one volume.

I could never commit to putting Hogans or Mizunos in play full time. Before I got hurt I typically had one set around, but I’m Ping for life and played Eye 2s and ISIs longer than anything….with one foray into Titleist 755s with that little red badge in the cavity. Played fantastic with those!
 

I did enjoy playing those irons but never felt as confident as I should have facing a 196 yard carry over a pond playing a $5 Nassau with my buddies and a Hogan in my hand.

Ditto Fella. I once used the sales contest clip at presentation at our sales meeting. We had hired a consultant to help design the sales comp plan that year and they had put in some pretty stupid stuff, clearly demonstrating that they didn’t understand our business. Worse, we had just been acquired by GE and our GM, who hired the consultant, didn’t understand it either. After hiring the consultant (unbeknownst to sales leadership), I was tasked with presenting the plan at the sales meeting. My comedy didn’t go over real well with the consultant. Looking back, I probably came pretty close to being fired over that. What an idiot. But I survived!

I really like Paddy's tip on the hip bump, been doing it this morning with no club and wow it feels so natural. Possibly when I do make a good swing that happens automatically, but way too often I do the old man with a bad back "spin out" and that never ends well.

We will see tomorrow morning if it transfers to the course.
