over the years I’ve asked that in many mixed company situations    Never once had anyone actually engage the idea.  Some joked about alien antfarms or “ infinite “ space.  But if I push back on the idea of infinite space.  Well the subject gets changed.  I don’t know the answer.  I just know that saying “ infinite space “ is a cop out. Because it can’t be proven or even a solid hypothesis shown.  Somewhere past the reaches that we can see , is more.  More what ?   Held by what ?  Inside of what ?  🤣. Annoying no ? 

 

Gravity. Cosmic dust has mass, so it has gravity, along with every other star, planet, asteroid, moon, and super massive black holes at the center of galaxies.

 

It's the dance of gravity.

 

Galaxies also have Mergers and Acquisitions.

 

LIV and the PGA Tour have gravity from their respective massive black holes at their center - money. Players in each have gravity, as do all the other elements of each tour - TV, people, sponsors, etc.

 

Both galaxies are orbiting each other. The PGA Tour has more cumulative gravity than LIV, so LIV can't can't pull off or acquire much of the mass of the PGA Tour, but they are drawn to each other and collide, like our galaxy and Andromeda are going to collide. The mass of LIV is mostly its black hole. Not many stars, mostly dust.

Math is why Newton is at the top of the pyramid. The mathematics at the time couldn't describe the dynamics of motion from gravity. So, he took some time off and invented calculus - basically the mathematics of motion. Oh, some small pieces were around for centuries, but, not something comprehensive.

 

It was brilliance.

 

And to the question of whether it was discovered or invented, Leibniz and Newton, each independently developed it at the same time without knowing the other was working on it. Newton had a better publicist, but his was another step above Leibniz.

 

If something works and describes results accurately, that's all we need.

I told this years ago on here but in light of your post I think I will tell it again. 

When I first moved down here I took like 2 years off. I had some money from selling off my land and racing operations. I piddled around some and also played some Mini Tour (local) and money matches. I was over at my then home course Indian Wells most of the week. One of my buds mentioned his 18 year old daughter was taking a cart girl job. He wanted me to keep an eye out on her. That course had a reputation of guys mostly Tourist golfers getting lit and talking what I call unladylike to the young cart girls. I told him I would.

One day I spotted some likkered up idiots getting what I really call fresh with her. I rode over and asked what the problem was? One of the idiots asked who the hell I was? The girl did not miss a beat and said this is my husband and planted a kiss on my cheek. With my imposing size the guys backed off super fast. I was embarrassed and asked her WTH? She told me plenty of young girls had older husbands and Boyfriends that old. I was like 43 at the time actually older than her Daddy. I later on told her Dad about the incident and we got a laugh. Even though he was some 5 years younger than I he would see me and ask "how are you doing son?" All the regular were in on the joke. I would ask him at times how my surrogate wife was doing? That young lady is married with kids of his own now but the joke still runs. He husband now asks how his "Husband In Law" is doing?

Yes I was always raised to have respect and treat a lady like a lady. Yep I will not tolerate anyone not treating a lady like a lady young or old. Might be a blessing that I never had a daughter I might be in Prison now. My wife even knows of the deal. In fact besides your post made me think I ran into her and her family yesterday at the hamburger joint. Now I know all the young waitresses there in fact 2 live in the park where we do. One of them asked if she knew me? She said sure do we were married for about 10 minutes. The waitress looked perplexed until we told her the story. The waitress replied "I could see Stuey doing that"

Oh for sure. Wasn’t really questioning maths  validity as whole.  Just describing my ignorance of it. I think it’s both discovered  and  made. The made part is what we have developed as tools to explain the found part.  But the made parts ( rules etc ) are what often trips me up.  I can do the logical parts myself to a high level.  I can see it in practical applications such as structures etc. .  It’s man’s rules about it that I find to be confusing.  That and my lack of formal training on any of it.  🤣.  
 

like I said. Maybe on my 2nd chapter I’ll teach myself. ( absolutely said in sarcasm ) seems to be the only way I can translate into my language is to snippet other folks logical points  into a collaborative vocabulary .   It takes a long time for dumb folks to understand things inside the box.  So we get outside and listen through the walls , test and decide what to keep and what to throw away.  Might get enough time later to become a Mathematician yet !🤣.  I’ve made it through half of calculus so far with my 15 year old. But he’s lost patience teaching me !! 
 

one will need 1000 lifetimes to answer the questions I have.  And I fear I’ll have but one , and somehow feel as if I’m on my 999th and it’s being wasted.

Yes sir. I can only imagine. But I can say this. There is a person about my age ( 44) who 24 or so years ago found out what harassing my wife ( then girlfriend) would get you.  It’s a long story I won’t tell. But he woke up on a dark road.  Laying on his own truck hood.  If I’m lying I’m dying.  He never followed her car again.  No I’m not a  tough guy daily.  But I’m not small or slow.  
 

there’s a line. And you won’t like me across that line.  I grew up with nothing.  No fear of losing myself . That never leaves you.  And it’s dangerous when I have something to actually lose.  I’m smart enough now to weigh what I’m worth to my family.  And the outcome wouldn’t be same in most cases.  But still. I’m more familiar with the 3rd rail than most.  
 

it’s probably just that  the good lord didn’t give me a daughter.  
 

one day I may pen a book.  My fear is it will get listed as fiction 🤣.  But I have  witnesses to anything I can tell.  My youth was a trip.  And I had no idea it wasn’t normal at the time.

I've come to the conclusion that all the engineers that design cars never took math. At least that's my experience after working on them for a long time. 🤣

Making my 13 pound prime rib tomorrow and my vegan niece will be having her little tofurkey ball/loaf thing. Atleast she’s not militant about it. She’s just a snarky little…. 😊

I noticed he said something about a different site. I wasn’t ever on it  so wasn’t familiar with it.  There must have been a little bit on this site because I think this is where I learned about them

All hail the SLED, if you have not tried it you are not doing your game any favors. I admit I have struggled with it a bit on slow greens but today played a Course with the fastest greens we have seen in months, I mean rock hard and slick.

Hitting a PW or 9 iron sky high and landing on the green did not even dent it, played with my two regular friends and they putted off the green several times. I did not have a three putt all morning and finished with 29 putts which is below my average by quite a few. 

 

The distance control is amazing on fast greens and I even made a bunch of 4-6 ft putts which are normally a mental challenge. Sadly it was not an especially low round (83) due to scrambling a lot with some stupid drives and it is also the longest Course we play, so long irons and the hybrid into some greens.

When the putter is hot it sure makes it more fun and saved a lot of stokes I have been giving away.

I can explain it briefly and short if we ever meet and talk in person. Forum rules prohibit me from discussing it here. Basically time and space is infinite and our human minds cannot grasp it. Reading between the line most on here can grasp where I am coming from
