I miss the late 70’s.

Show up on the first tee just in time, carry bag on my shoulder, untied golf shoes clicking through the parking lot, Dunkin’ Donuts styrofoam coffee cup, raspberry jelly still on my face, no time to put on a glove, grab a new Titleist ball and the Cleveland Classic persimmon, one lazy practice swing, then bust it.

Now, it’s all Ibuprofen, creaking noises and grunting trying to tee up a ball.

That last line is me exactly except my Doc put me on Tylenol because ibuprofen runs my BP up. My warm ups sound like pop corn popping

Another creative way to gamble online?

I have said this many a time ever since all these sports betting sites came to be------ my Old Man and his cronies would be in Hog Heaven these days being the degenerate gamblers they were. You can bet your last dollar if there was gambling involved my old man would have became a computer expert

Sitting here watching the final round of the Farmer's. Another now less rare Saturday finish.

Raining here so stuck indoors.

Lots of new names on the leaderboard.

Good players just keep coming through the pipeline.

Watched the encore last night. Did the funeral yesterday and then the reception ( I ain't passing on free food especially if Baptist women are preparing it). Messed around on the range some then played 4 holes after the Shootout. My experiment just did not work out club wise except the putter. I pulled the infamous rusty Scotty out after an extended time out. Not my best but I can live with it. I was hitting too hard at the old Macs trying to get something out of them. The Hybrid (29*) I hit ok but can not control the flight or distance. I will continue with the TM CBs and try to work things out distance wise. I will admit I was a little stiff and sore last night but I am ok so far this morning. I chalk up part of it as playing 72 holes this week straight out of the box after a 3 week lay off. But all in all I needed to push myself some. Planning on putting some before church and hit balls or play 9 afterwards. It felt good to get out of the house and do something at last.

Watching as well. The Saturday finish is definitely taking some time to get used to. I know WRXers like to bag on Torrey saying it’s a blah course and only hyped bcs of the scenery. But as you’ve prob noticed, I’m a huge fan of gorgeous ocean scenery. So I really enjoy it.

IMHO I would say that course is anything but blah. Looks like those guys had plenty of trouble especially if they missed a fairway. Now I will admit some probably do not like it because it does not conform to Bomb and Gouge golf. And really over the years Tiger made it look easy. With the Poa Anna greens those guys got a dose of reality on what we play in the late afternoons.

I have to agree 110% on the last sentence. My bud in Charlotte says the PGA Tour is dead that there are no really great players anymore. I called BS on that seems the depth of the field is increasing every week and a great player pops up every week

I’ll also add I have no issue with Taylor personally. She has some damn good songs. It’s 💯 an overexposure thang for me.

I agree I have nothing against her personally or the Chiefs. Never have heard her music.

Immaculate Grid asks baseball fans to try to guess nine players that fit perfectly into a grid. For example, in the aforementioned grid, the player needs to have played for both the Dodgers and Mets to fulfill that square on the board. The player on the top right corner needs to have been a member of the Dodgers when he had 200 or more hits in a season. And so forth.

While guessing nine out of nine is ideal, so too is guessing players that others don’t. The lower your rarity score, the better. If you nab a player below 5%? Dynamite.

For the Dodgers-Mets guess, Brett Butler was guessed by 0.2% of players, giving the player a .2 rarity score.

i play it with a a couple of friends (one is a former MLBer and scores crazy low) and it’s a good time for baseball nerds. It reminds me of the days when you looked at the cards before they ended up in your spokes…

I don't got out of my way trying to avoid the intrusion of popular culture, celebrity status designates, "new" visual and aural media into my cognitive life.  It appears on my computer screen, which is my primary medium for delivery of content.  I can engage or just as quickly scroll on past.  As most of it simply doesn't interest me.  Sense that I'm increasingly "out of the loop" to much of it, references go over my head with little understanding or relevancy.  Yet it remains pervasive, avoidance (ignorance?) is difficult.

Which sorta leads me to Swift.  The current flavor of the day.  Yes, I know who she is.  What she does.  In the most superficial of ways.  From my perspective, she's nothing more than a name and a face.  Verbiage is available, but not worthy of my time to read.  I couldn't name one song of hers if my life depended on it.  Another on the list of ultimately disposable pop celebrities.  No different than ones that came before and those yet to come.  More power to her though.  Grab your moment in the sun, make your coin, while the getting is good.  For one day, you'll be replaced.

Cliche or Archetype in the Theater of the Absurd?  Maybe time to revisit Marshall McLuhan.

Well, I’m certainly no Swiftie and don’t know any of her music but

Ill disagree she’s a fad or some record company/pr manufactured face or flash in the pan

She plays writes music, been passionate about it her whole life,

Made her dreams come true and that’s always worthy of respect.

Ok ok I guess I lose my man card for the day 🤣🍻

So, this one needs to be taken in the spirit it's given.  It's friendly advice not admonishment.  It's a request, not a finger-point.  No one needs to feel singled-out or look for the exit door.  In fact, please don't.  Just hear me out.

About the ONLY influence an OP has over the ultimate destiny of any thread is to shut it down.  Notice, that's never happened.  There is no plan or threat to do so, either.   This pack of online buds have regrouped under multiple new threads ultimately landing in the 19th hole.  We did so when it became necessary.  For better or worse, there were times it became necessary at the will of the moderators.

Like just about anyone in here, heaven knows I've skated on mighty thin ice with posts that easily could have put me, or worse the Grille in deep dung.  We "seem" to be AOK for the most part in the Grille but I'm aware of at least one visit by the mods so far requesting we keep it out of the ditch rules-wise.  All I'm asking, in the friendliest voice I can muster, is to please help this thing keep rolling without jeopardizing yourself or the whole smash for all of us.  People get booted and threads get locked.  All it takes is one too many pins in the mod's voodoo doll.  Getting away with it now and then is a slippery slope.  If I were asked to quote or be more direct that I am about this, then that would be a direct attack more than a simple and general request, no?  I personally see more benefit from making a simple and general comment than calling any number of people (self included) out.

If this post costs all of us a friend we all love hearing from, I just failed on a massive level.

Nicely put. Thanks Reas

Love her or hate her, I agree. Being a casual observer at best on the specifics here. I think if anything she’s the anti-record company PR flash in the pan. She “famously” fought her record companies to gain control of her work. Hence all the “Taylor’s version” stuff. If anything she’s the face of the strong woman (artist) that told the record companies trying to control her to go blank themselves and won! I’d guess she’s just aa iconic bcs of that more so than just her music.
