I feel the same, we coasted, and what was done was not enough and to this day is still lacking. The James Webb telescope is pretty bomb, but we have a lot figure out. Our physics is incomplete, AI might help all this too but it's going to take a bigger commitment to move the ball.

Other than going to the moon what else is there to do on the moon? It's an inhospitable place.

The idea that we would someday colonize the moon is folly. 

 

The Apollo program came to an end. The shuttle program came to an end.

 

It became unpopular to spend tax dollars on space and NASA's budget was drastically cut.

 

People wanted other things, food and medical programs, etc.

 

The disconnect happened over time.

 

I was 16 when the first human moon landing took place. It was a day of enormous national

pride. You had to be there. Everyone tuned in by radio and TV. The American flag was 

planted. We got there first. 

 

It seems an ancient memory now nearly 55 years ipso de facto.

Best burger I have ever had at a restaurant was in San Diego. Little bar/restaurant just outside the ‘Park at the park’ at Petco Park. Pretzel bun and bacon. 1st time I had had a pretzel bun and it’s now my go to.

I guess I just wonder why the government is ok taking the backseat ?  Is it a “ let them lift and we will swoop in at the Last minute and steal it “ ploy ?  Most space exploration was before i was born. So you have to understand my context. It’s all doubtful to me because the only real memory I have of space exploration was watching the challenger explode live on tv in class. People my age doubt all of it , and I think it’s because we didn’t witness any of it in real time. If that makes sense?  Not taking conspiracy theory. Talking disconnect.

This type of thing appeals to Musk and Bezos. 
 

But, unless they can stall the aging process, they are just too early to truly be Space Lords!

 

But, one day, hundreds of years from now, perhaps when the convergence of all of humanities advances or some biological or environmental calamity (caused by us or not, ) end up conspiring against us and destroying civilization as we know it, 

 

Humanity will only inhabit space! 😳

Oh man that sounds insane! Theres a place here that sells dope pretzel buns, they freakin awesome, have made roast beef sandwiches with them but 🍔 sound off the hook!

Sounds harsh, but anyone that thinks it was faked or thinks the earth is flat, is beyond trying to have a productive conversation with IMO. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Images taken by a Nasa spacecraft show that the American flags planted in the Moon's soil by Apollo astronauts are mostly still standing.

The photos from Lunar Reconaissance Orbiter (LRO) show the flags are still casting shadows - except the one planted during the Apollo 11 mission.

This matches Buzz Aldrin's account of the flag being knocked over by engine exhaust as Apollo 11 lifted off.

LRO was designed to produce the most detailed maps yet of the lunar surface.

Each of the Apollo missions that touched down on the Moon planted an American flag in the soil.

Scientists had previously examined photos of the landing sites for these flags, and had seen what looked like shadows cast by them on the lunar surface. But this was not considered conclusive.

 

Now, researchers have studied photos of the same areas taken at different points during the day and have observed shadows circling the points where the flags are thought to be.

Prof Mark Robinson, the chief scientist for the spacecraft's camera instrument, LROC, said in a blog entry: "From the LROC images it is now certain that the American flags are still standing and casting shadows at all of the sites, except Apollo 11."

The Arizona State University scientist added: "The most convincing way to see that the flags are still there, is to view a time series of LROC images taken at different times of day, and watch the shadow circle the flag."

"Personally I was a bit surprised that the flags survived the harsh ultraviolet light and temperatures of the lunar surface, but they did. What they look like is another question (badly faded?)"

LRO began its mission in lunar orbit in September 2009, to identify mineral and other resources on the Moon as well as scout promising landing sites for future missions.

I was even fortunate and amazed to see the actual club Alan used - a 6 iron, at the USGA museum in NJ.

 

He actually had to smuggle in the iron head and a few golf balls as NASA had to approve all items that would be allowed on the moon trip so his golf equipment was actually contraband.

 

I guess NASA had to have an accurate weight load to factor in the precise requirements for the rocket trajectory and thrust needed to propel the load.
