MB used to have an AFB but it closed in like the late 80s early 90s. It is a regular airport now but they still do training exercises Out of Shaw AFB in Sumpter doing touch and go landings etc and Ocean exercises.

Last year they had the infamous spy balloon. Everyone here in general claims it "flew right over their house" which is BS. It flew about 5 miles north of me and it was big enough to see it with the naked eye. We were looking when the jets from Shaw flew by. I told the wife utt ooh the human defecation is about to hit the rotating air mover. They made a circle and lined up on it and fired. Now we could see it because it was by then 3 miles North of me but 15 miles out to sea. We heard the boom when the jets hit the afterburners to get away from it after they fired. The had no idea what was or was not in it. We watched it fall. No spectacular explosion from the missiles. Some people on the beach said it sounded like air being let out of a balloon. As the Crow flies we live a mile off the beach so we did get a decent view. They are not supposed to but at times we get the sonic booms off the ocean from the Navy jets kicking it in afterburner

As they went over it was deafeningly loud.  But before they were directly over me it was near silent.  From 100 yards out it was silent.  I have no idea how.  But that day is the day I knew first  hand , that if they were hunting me , I’d be dead before I knew they were in the world.  
 

it’s not rare to see them my way.  Just never saw them that low.  We also see big planes doing touch and goes all the time too , or even dropping airborne guys  for practice. 

I bet the pilots got a laugh. I can hear it now " LOL we scared the crap out of that poor old guy working on a Mustang"

Yup! The 7 iron lof on my PXG's is 27° and the Forged X's is 35°. The Callaway 5 iron is 27° I think.

Oh I’d bet on it.  In fact.  I’ve thought about that day a lot since then.   Wondered why they were so low over my area.  One or two things. Spotting cars at my place.  Or spotting deer/wildlife … I’m in a 1000  acre or so pocket where there’s 6-7 ponds , many fields , an apple orchard and a peach orchard,  many wooded tracts and 6 or 7 houses.  The 7th largest deer in the state was killed 400 yards from my house on my property in 2008  ( by my wife’s uncle ) . I came face to face with it the day before on my driveway .  Huge , old ,  buck. ( huge for east coast ) …. It had two drop tines , and an oddly dark muzzle and stocking  feet.   Biggest deer I’ve ever seen in person.  
 

screenshot here shows him. Larry Mccraw is the name. Notice no other deer from Spartanburg county is even close. lol shows the whole rundown.  
 

this deer broke off one of the drop tines after being shot , and it wasn’t found.  I don’t understand scoring myself. But from what I’m told if it had that tine , it would have scored much higher. Maybe even atypical….all I know is that it was a monster.  And only 3-4 people hunt this 1000 acre refuge.  I’m not completely happy I contributed to its death ( I’m not against hunting I just don’t hunt ). But I do understand and agree that it was time. He was old. And the young ones needed space to breed. Etc. We’ve seen several More “ ghosts “ as my father in law calls them.  So there’s some more big boys out there.  I’ve often wondered to those pilots were just seeing what they could scare up?

I make the hardware components that pipe the data into the helmet. Connectors with 6-12 channels and can get run over by a truck and still work. 

 

I'll bloviate on one more aspect of golf talk. Lot of chatter on mechanics of swing in I&A but one of least talked about and most consequential is tempo & rhythm of it. The players I've marvelled a round with have established R&T that never waivers. Guys like me, it fluctuates, my best rounds always came when I locked in early and stayed with it. You can be a stuck flipper or OTT basher but if the pace is dialed in right it can still lead you to shooting scores over your pay grade.

I totally agree. The tee shot sets up everything for me. Length isn’t my problem, it’s accuracy. Once I’m in the fairway what type of irons I have is mostly inconsequential, as I’m getting it to the green most of the time. Then as you eluded to, the good short game is paramount. Which reminds me of something I read a while ago in I believe the OG ‘rollback thread’. A member that was adamant that the tee shot was the least important shot in golf and therefore didn’t really matter. I couldn’t disagree more. Perhaps just one of the reasons I despise the rollback thread that won’t die!!!

It’s early for me, and I haven’t yet finished my first cup of coffee ☕️, so at the risk of pulling a DMM. Am I right in saying that we are talking golf (clubs) and blade who made it obvious he’d like to talk golf here but hasn’t because we “hate that too” hasn’t contributed to the golf content and instead is talking helicopters and *hunting???

*which begs me to ask. Do you hunt waterfowl blade?

Kind of ironic because Hogan was adamant tee shot was the most important. Top 2 or 3 iron player all time saying it 50 years ago.

You see.  I’ve 1.  Not had time and 2. You have tp be in a certain mood to talk golf.  It’s very easily spooked.  Words must be chosen wisely.  And boasts not made , or else there’s hell to pay.  So I don’t want to rush it.  
 

 

today I’ve dealt with a meeting at the school over next years classes.   My kid has ran out of math to take … and he’s a sophomore.  I didn’t know you could run out of math 🤣.  He’s about to take some dual enrollment classes at USC upstate campus next year , math and a biology lab. I don’t know who he’s getting this from.  Certainly not me. But I’m not an impediment- I went and signed permission for him to do so.  No kidding , on my way home I got a follow up call from the ncaa  clearing house that he’s signed up with reminding me that coaches can contact him after June 15th  per ncaa rules , and that they have had 5 requests for his contact info this week. Which is great news.  One is his school of hope.  Wofford.  One is Furman.  Then I came in and parts had arrived for a car that I desperately want to get rid of.  So I’m putting Procar seats in that …. On top of it all today is opening day for track.  Home meet tonight !  One of my favorite things.  So I’ve been all over the map.  being a proud papa is hard work 🤣…

 

the video I posted there came across my feed while trying to find something to listen to while I work.  I laughed a little and decided to post it here. Then saw your post and thought “ man that fits - must be driviine intervention “. So tagged you with it.  I Swanee that was per absolute chance , which  made me laugh.

I don’t concern myself with silly things like bench press.  And carbon footprint is a made up ideal pushed by the most hypocritical folks on the planet.  But if we want to use their logic , I offset all of mine with farming every year.  Especially the older methods I use. Heck I even recycle trees into lumber and plant new ones.   I’m using at least half the shipping most suburban folks use.  And I rarely go anywhere past the 3-4 miles to town. Haven’t flown my private jet in years. 🤣.  
 

we can compare 40 yard numbers though if you want !  And I haven’t run one in 20 years. 🤨
