Just back from my local Golf Mart. Lookin at the BP Ss (they don’t carry the Ts and neither does my local PGASS. Guess they think nobody is good enough for/nor wants ‘em???) Man I’m feeling good about my choice to order em. Looked at em compared to all the other top OEMs (7i irons) and they definitely look the best to my eye. I’m pretty stoked for their arrival!

It's sad really. I used to love picking up mint 3-PW sets of blades with DGs300 for 1/3 MSRP because people would buy them and not be able to hit them. I NEED RETAILERS TO SELL MORE BLADES!!!

Funny you mention that. The selection of used 3-PW blades/players irons at Golf Mart  is nuts. And that was the smaller Dublin location.

Whenever I need to scratch the itch, my backup JPX923 Tours do the trick. Plus, they have a cavity so I can tell myself they're forgiving. (They're not 🙂)

923 Ts are beautiful! 
In all my years playing I’ve had so many iron sets. Always just naturally partial to the look/feel of a forged players iron. 
Moral of the story is. I just don’t score any better with big GI irons like my last, Titleist T300s, vs my 620 CBs. So I just go with what looks and feels best to me.

I get some help from T100/T150 type irons but anything bigger doesn't work for my swing. Could easily go back to CB's/blades again, but would probably still have help in the 4 iron at least.

btw. 923 Ts now S3 and they are indeed tiny! Just looked at em again today. They make the likes of Ping BP S n Srixon ZXi7 look big in comparison. Haha

Haven't hit the S3 yet, definitely a fantastic looking club. Don't get why people rave over single piece forged irons though, they all kinda do the same thing. I just keep em as a backup set whenever I need a reminder that im not a true player!

For me a lot of it is the beauty/aesthetic. I could hang one of my 620 MBs on the wall and enjoy it there almost as much as playing it. Haha

 

That said. I also enjoy looking at the likes of a gorgeous Damascus blade, wood baseball bat or watch even tho I don’t wear watches. 
 

A few years ago I saw this custom Bridgestone MB blade in a WITB thread here. Saved the  photo and still admire it.

Hadn’t touched a club in 8 days yesterday and it was a trip getting the swing back.  Then practiced today and hit the ball about as well as I could.

That's fantastic.  I got walloped on the New and shot a fairly large number and haven't shot over 77 on the Old.  My caddie told me on the New because I hit a draw I would score much better on the Old because of the rotation of the holes.  Left is OOB on the New and in play in on the Old.

 

Got slapped on Carnoustie as well, but I also played from the tips.  If there is a bunker I didn't visit I don't remember it.  I do remember the range leaves a little to be desired.

 

Have a great time, take some photos, and enjoy it.  I didn't play Kingsbarns but they certainly wanted me to play it.  I have been told it is a great track and I am unfamiliar with Panmure.

Thanks.  My brother is at a 12 index with a 106 mph ss and I’m 15 trending down after struggling a bit from March to May.  They are probably going to make us play the whites which he probably won’t be too happy about but I’m 15 yards shorter than him so I don’t mind.  Normally we play courses 6200-6500 yards, but I’m just happy to get out there, jet lagged, weather and all.  Got caddies for all 5 days.

Too bad I recently returned to a different department at my old work organization after 5 years away and don’t have much vacation accrued, otherwise we’d go up to Aberdeen to play also.  It’ll have to wait until next time, and we might hit up courses near Edinburgh when that time comes.

I did watch a full round at Carnoustie on youtube and the guy at near scratch basically hit irons off of every tee. He avoided most bunkers and scored pretty well.

I had a great time both times I have been.  Carnoustie does it by handicap and I believe to play the tips you had to be a 5 and I thought what the heck.  I was paired with a French couple who couldn't hit the ball out of their shadows (literally) and it just wasn't a great round.  It was fun and a great experience.

 

At the Old they don't permit you to play from the back tees for pace of play reasons, or everyone would do it.  My first time, with my dad I was 2 over on the day and another kid from Milwaukee was having a tough day but was clearly a player, and our caddie asked the other two in our group if we could play from the back on #17 (but we couldn't say anything because he wasn't allowed to do it) so we got to hit slinging hooks over the hotel/shed.  He also gave me his caddie hat, I paid him for it, but clearly I got on well with the caddie.

 

One thing I will tell you, and I don't mean to come off as a YOU HAVE TO..., but definitely, definitely ask questions about the courses.  Ask about the turf covered tombstone looking things on the Old, ask about everything because the history is really incredible.  I don't think there is much to ask about concerning Kingsbarns because it's only 20 years old or so, but the others, I can't say it enough.  It's great to hear about it.

 

On 11, that front bunker is something.  I want to let you know I parred from there (100% luck), when you walk by it thank your stars you aren't in it and then ask about Bobby Jones and that bunker.  The woman who joined me in the bunker was told by the caddie, you have one chance and then we will drop it up on the left of the bunker.

That was my trip with the exception of Panmure. Carnoustie is my most favorite place on earth.

I doubled 11 after pulling my tee shot a couple miles left. Worst shot of the day on the worst hole for it to happen. Hole's tough enough with a GOOD tee shot. 

 

Got up and down out of Cartgate bunker on ... #3 I think it is? Hit a perfect little spinner up that grabbed the edge of the green and trickled to about a foot. I could hit that shot 100 (or more) times and not pull that off again.

Did not want to keep clogging up the cally thread, but boy I am steamed about they way they are releasing stuff. I have no problem with the number of releases, just tell your people what is going on so they can inform the people that buy from them.

 

They are going to honor the 100% trade bonus so that is nice, been looking at numbers and even though they have not processed the 1st trade for the Mizuno's I can trade the TCB in on the Ai 150 and still have less out of pocket than the JDM stuff would have been.

 

Eh, going on vacation next week and don't really give a flip, back hurts and putting up about the same scores with any of the sets.  Good to great rounds are in the 70's and the rest can go up into the 90's, as we all know it is not the sticks but a guy has to have a hobby.

After 25ish years of playing, that’s my findings Jim. Basically the same scores with whatever set I play. 620 MBs to GI T300s.

So I just play what I like to look at and what feels the best.

It is quite amazing but I never got into collecting them, have the SLED and the Toulon. When they are going in a rock on stick will make putts, all the rest of the time it is burning edges or .50" short...I certainly have the personality to have 10 of them.
