No diet weekend meal here too yesterday evening, the traditional fathers day entrecôte with bearnaise sauce and loads of oven roasted taters, my steak only  a fraction smaller than that of the athlete son.  One cannot do that too often nowadays, so you cherish those little moments of happiness when they come…

Yep and he rocks a bucket hat too and he did kick cancer. One of the under dogs I pull for. If you go over to the tour side of WRX a lot of people do not like him saying he is a Richard Noggin---- More of a reason for me to pull for him

Did not play the Shootout yesterday due to CPO. Kinda felt sorry for the course though. They finally made a decision around 7:30 as to CPO. I know a lot of teams had pulled out before hand. When they made the decision my team pulled out along with my other buds team. I know there was a long line leaving the course. I came home went back to bed. Did some shop work yesterday. Did a build I had been wanting to try for a while now. I had a little Infiniti 26* hybrid head in some stuff I had been long wanting to build. I think this was a Prototype head because the shaft size is believe it or not .335. I knew I had a old UST 65 in regular in the building across the road. Found it put it together. Also set my old Ping Zing 2 up. I had been wanting to do that for a while. I ended up putting the same SS grip I have on the Scotty and weighting it up like I used to have it. I putted with that Zing for like 21 years. Since it is a flow neck like the Scotty I set it up the same as a back up. Today after church I am planning on extending the recently purchased Callaway 7&9 woods one inch. My goal basically now for no paticular reason is to build a similar full back up bag. I will use the Mac Hogans as the back up irons. I had also found a Cally steelie 3 wood in the building that matches the 7&9 woods. My trusty rusty 588s will be there too. Right now for some reason I am feeling motivated to work in the shop the most motivation I have had since my accident.

Just in case you didn't realize, there is a cult following of engineers and geeks of these and others similar to it. They are parodies of a joke paper written by a British grad student in the 1940’s and nothing but nonsense words. In the first one, he’s standing in front of a motor starter panel used in factories. But man, what a narrator!

Don’t be intimidated by those Honma boys, classic rules. I wish that I could join you in MB, especially since we got our first snowfall last night. I will be there in spirit.

 

My home course is closed for the winter as of today. I am also in temporary accommodation as the house on the course is being renovated. Four of us played yesterday before the course closed in 4C weather. John and I played our classics and it was a fun day. Given the weather, I was happy with my 82 and my Bullseye putter was hot, no sled for me Sol.

 

Looking at the forecast, play this week is going to be hit and miss.

 I tried the Honma irons when PGA store carried them but shaft options were proprietary and limited so I passed

 

I did get a driver and hybrid when they closed them out but I rarely use them- they are ok but not better than my Taylormades that have so many shaft options

Oh I have no doubt that just a few holes in we will be reminded who is the pro and who are

the amateurs. BTW, you will have a definite edge with those old rusty Macs. The BSPF rating 

(Big Stu Playability Factor) on those old Macs is through the roof. You're gonna need to give

us several strokes a side.

What a game, put up a 39/39 this morning and left 4 birdie putts on the lip (not just close but on the lip, crazy how they stayed out).

 

Just nuts as I have been playing like hot garbage for quite some time, not sure if i just felt better this morning or what but things worked and I spent all day yesterday repairing my Daughter's fence and mowing 2 acres so I was quite sore and could hardly move last night. Modern medicine is wonderful when used properly.

 

Built a new wedge yesterday with a 50* Miura Passing Point Neo I got a good deal on and popped an Excaliber 100 tapered wedge shaft in it for fun, it worked nicely as a gap wedge with the EPON's but it will be pulled when the Nippon 105x 3 iron shaft gets here so I can soft step the set and use the 105 PW shaft in it. Of course today I hit the irons quite well which figures, but a little more flex should be even better...we will see.

 

Oh and if there is room and work allows I could make the road trip up to Dirty Myrtle to get in the Oldster Shootout, always fun to Golf with Internet friends. That is the only thing I miss about the other Golf website, had a lot of fun meeting people you converse with. Unfortunately I was usually the oldest and at times felt like a 3rd wheel playing 6,500+ Courses. Driver, FW, wedge most of the time which gets tiring real quick.

Well you were real good at one point and that talent nevers leaves, might have to use a different way to get there but I bet it shines though more often than not.

 

Myself having never actually been good it is always a treat to just play decently with whatever manner of swing that shows up. I am starting to think that even par round is out of sight now, somehow I manage to screw the pooch when things start going well.

Hey come on---- I play at 5120 at sea level since I can not swing far or hard anymore. Yes I know the feeling. A couple of par 5s at our course I could hit a good drive but not able to clear the hazard and had to lay up and hit a 7 or 9 wood for a 3rd. Some Par 4s it was driver and 7 wood or even 3 wood. Yeah it gets old. Around here they tend to go by age on what tee to use. For once and mark this down I agree with the USGA here. They base their reccomended tees according to how far someone hits the driver. I only hit a driver about 210 220 anymore and their chart reccomends around 5300. Which my 5120 at sea level is dead on it.

Yep, I am distance challenged also even though I play some x flex shafts (which is more for control than anything else). The course this morning was just under 6,000 but very tight and a lot of places to really screw up. Even when all the cylinders are firing and my gluts are activating a 220 yd drive feels like a monster. If and I say if I actually hit the center face and there is some wind and roll 250 is not impossible, but the average is closer to 220 maybe less. 

It is not so bad if we play were we are supposed too, but every now and then I get a invite to a private Course where my friend is 27 and hits legit 295 or more drives (4-5 capper). It is fun to watch and he gives me some strokes for age and cap difference so I can hang with him skins wise if I am on point with the short game. But if he is on with his all around game it is a bloodbath, since he is hitting two or more clubs less into the greens which are very fast and true.

I could not agree more, play the appropriate tees. We try to play our hickory clubs at 5100-5300, classics are usually 5300-5600. In bad weather, move up a tee block. 

 

I see too many people playing the wrong tees. If you are always hitting fairway woods or hybrids into most par fours, you are on the wrong tees. Check your ego at the door. If more people did that, slow play would be less of a problem.

There were over 100 golfers on the tee sheet when I arrived at work early this morning. We have had a total of 14 hardy souls play winter golf today. At a little before 11 AM (second photo) the boys of the UNC Charlotte golf team went out to experience a frigid round of golf. A handful of other middle aged members have jumped out there this afternoon. I'll play down to 42* with sunshine and no wind, but I wouldn't even think about playing some golf on a day like this.  Crazy stuff.

The funny part is, I just try not to fall down most of the time....I wouldn't know if they did or didn't anyway. Never have been able to really put an actual power swing together where it feels like I am doing things in the right order. 

Did the Super Speed thing for about 6 months after I was giving them to me for xmas a few years ago and it helped. At my best I could hit 120 on the swing radar thing, no idea if that really translated to the course since I never gained much more than about 10-15 yards, it also put me in such back pain I could only do it a couple of times a month  so eventually I just gave up.

 

I can see how a young body could really get some benefit out of it, it works but you have to stay with it.

I remember a time when as long as there wasn't snow on the greens I'd play. Not anymore. Sunshine, no wind, and 45° is my limit

I'm 30°, no wind, and preferably sunshine.  I'll play while it's raining or snowing. Invigorating.
