When I was in college I cleaned a pancake house restaurant in the evenings.  Loved it on Super Bowl Sunday... didn't have to clean the men's restroom...

Nice win for one of the good guys in Houston. Great front nine and then a little shaky but got it done with plenty to spare. Love Tony's game and like the way he is taking just a little off and finding the fairways. Wish I still had a 2nd gear.

MPF.  I love the Maltby Playability Factor ratings guide and have referred to it for years when thinking about new irons. That was pretty creative of you to come up with the BSPF  Big Stu Playability Factor for Myrtle Man's MacGregor irons.  Good stuff.

Did the Super Speed thing for about 6 months after I was giving them to me for xmas a few years ago and it helped. At my best I could hit 120 on the swing radar thing, no idea if that really translated to the course since I never gained much more than about 10-15 yards, it also put me in such back pain I could only do it a couple of times a month  so eventually I just gave up.

I tried the swing training speed thing for a while back in the spring trying to get my distance back. I kept hurting myself and figured it out that my stressed out damaged back would no longer take it. Then I discovered my back would not take my old swing either. I had to learn to accept it and changed my swing. I had this painted or decaled on the dash of most of my race cars something my mentor taught me "Deal With It". You guys do not know how close I came to quitting the game alltogether back around March and April

If you want to go off of MPF Mac V-Foils are easy to hit compared to FC 4000s. VIPs and Muirfields are somewhat in the middle. IMHO the hardest blade irons to hit for me were the Hogan Precision Centers or PCs. The name suits them well because one has to be one hell of a ball striker to hit them. Like I said before I was never a good ball striker I was more of a hitter and scrambler.

FC 4000's.  Irons with the lowest MPF (-341) of those that were measured.  A sweet spot barely off the hosel (C-Dim = .760).  Darn near broke both my wrists attempting to hit a golf ball with a '63 FC M2 7 iron.  Dug into the range turf and stopped.  Once was enough, dangerous in my hands.  Tip of the virtual cap that you still play them.

Oh yeah I still play them in my vintage play. Actually I can hit them as well as any of my other Mac blades. Only thing with them now those old Propel shafts are heavier and I can only endure 9 holes with them. I have enterained the thought if the 26* hybrid experiment works out going with a partial bag with the 5 iron ( for bump and run) and 7 thru 9 irons. I am dead accurate with those short irons and the 5 iron I am deadly on bump and runs with. If the 26* experiment works out I am fast approaching geezerdom with 5 headcovers in the bag and not one on the putter. Right now it is 37* here with the wind chill it is around 32* and with the damp air I am not venturing out until maybe noon or so. You mentioned darn near breaking your wrist with the 7 iron I thought of the joy and sting of trying to hit a been outside range rock in this weather with the 2 iron. No joke made my back hurt at just the thought.

Stu, you make a valid point that any old guy should consider. The risk of injury in the pursuit of speed is very real as you get older and is not necessary to enjoy the game. Play the right tees and play within yourself.

 

The great thing about golf is that you can play it for your whole life if you play smart and stay healthy. Up to this point in my life (68), I have been able to play almost every day walking the course. I know that at some point that some adjustments will need to be made.

 

Golf should be fun. I am thankful for every day that I get to play and try to make the most of the opportunity.
