I think you mentioned this before Stu but I can talk about golf equipment for hours. I'm a sponge when it comes to talking old and new even though I know very little about anything prior to my taking up the game in 87. If I try talking equipment with most guys I know they usually get the deer in headlights look. My old league partner got some new irons once and I asked him what shafts he got fitted in to. He pulled one out of his bag and looked at it and asked, how do I tell?😄

In the past I had consulted with a lady at my former church who was a 3 time published author on the project. Her husband ended up passing and she passed some 6 months later so the project as many for me was put back burner. But we will see how the book deal goes. My wife is elated that my stuff will go in the museum. She said that others could enjoy it rather than it sit in the closet gathering dust. Yeah I like that concept. Yeah he was the guy who told me many years ago " you are the last of the Dinosauers as in the only guy who builds his own cars from the engine up" He added " I bet you know every bolt and nut and weld on that car too" Yeah he pegged me.  BTW he has early pics of me racing modified 6 cylinders at Metrolina and he is also a avid Model builder and built a model of my 64 Chevelle race car

I'm sorry LP, I didn't really answer you. Yes you spotted what is a bigWord not allowed  snowblower. I've had the same 10lb bag of salt though for 8 years. With my driveway being on the south side of the house and being asphalt it melts real quick naturally.

Some of my favorite childhood memories are of going to our local 1/2 mile dirt track and watching my favorite driver every Saturday night. His name was Joe Finn and he drove the #77, a 38 Chevy with a Ford Flathead. He had two of them, a blue one and a black one. One was stock and the black one was run in the modified class. He also did all his own work. What's ironic is that when I got older I was was his mechanic on all his personal cars and pickups. He was a farmer in my hometown of 2000 people where I lived until 8 years ago.

Stu, I think that this is a wonderful idea and Would love to be one of the first to buy the book. You have a unique story and it is good that your racing gear will be displayed rather than gathering dust. I expect that producing the book will be a valuable endeavour for you as you relive the experiences and to the the readers that will benefit from your stories.

The old golf stories would be super interesting and the race fascianting for someone this side of the pond where racing is a very small club and a very very niche interest.

I hooked up in the Navy with some guys who were pilots. Now in the Military it was against the rules between enlisted and officers to fraternize. we were all like screw it. Sometimes we used to go down here to Myrtle and play Whispering Pines which was on the then Air Force base. Met a 2 star Admiral there. I was scared to death and the pilots said he was cool and knew darn well I was enlisted. I asked how he could tell? they said he could'nt that they told him I was and he was cool with it. I remember something coming up and I told the Admiral "after you sir" He told me " young man let me inform you of this there are 4 places where there is no rank a cat house, a chow line, a poker game and a golf course". We still had to be clandestine about stuff though. The Pilots had plenty of time between flights and they arrainged things. They sent word through my Chief who played with us too.

Over in your neck of the woods I see it all the time on my FB feeds they race what they call Bangers locally. They also have races pulling Caravans ( campers as we call them) Plenty of bang them up action. In the 90s they raced Sedan classes professionally with guys from all over Europe competiting sorta like NASCAR. I watched it some back then on ESPN. I pulled for one guy who could really drive drove an Audi his name was Allan Menu. I was hoping he would move to NASCAR. Never knew what happened to him or the series

Well gentlemen, it's 27° here and I have a 10:00 a.m. tee time. My three cohorts are chomping at the bit to play even though we've been informed that the frost delay will have us teeing off around 11:30 a.m.  It is sunny and there is no wind.  I need to see if I can find some 30 compression golf balls!

My limit knowledge of racing tells me that it's predominatly track racing.

 

There's not alot of dirt tracks in this part of the cournty (can't even name one) but there are several race tracks.

 

Go Karting is also pretty popular here and most racers are involved in Karts as Kids. 

 

 

Personally I beleive that 2 wheel racing is much bigger in the UK than 4 wheel.

Yep Banger racing is a thing (esentially it's any old car you car to get trashed while racing) 

 

I'm not much into motor racing, my family always revolved more around physical sport rather than motor but I have spent some time with Steve Parrish (Bike Racer) who was very good frineds with Barry Sheen. He's a member of my old golf club and some of the strories he has told me are unreal.

Yes, I have played there but it was before the restoration. Fun place to visit. Another place of interest is Discount Dan's. Dan was a pro over here years ago and moved there and started one of the first online golf equipment companies. He is retired and turned it over to younger guys. The shop is also the clubhouse of a little nine hole course in Gearhart and is packed with golf stuff. I have bought clubs and gear there and online. No sales tax and competitive pricing. They can get just about anything if you call.

I do not have favorable enough weather to play golf on my weekend (Mon.and Tues) this week. Yesterday it was grey windy and 35* and today it is 40* but it has been raining all day. A month ago I started playing on Wednesday's with a coworker at BFCC . Mr. H plays for a local college golf team and works PT on our cart staff. Mr. H is a solid player. He made 4 birdies last week (this swing video taken then) and shot a two under at BFCC. He and I will be going out tomorrow afternoon for 9 holes. It will be sunny and 40* with 20 mph winds, so it will be my first taste of raw winter golf. Hey 9 holes for the week is better than zilch.

It's gonna be 53, cloudy and only blowing 10 here tomorrow and the courses will still be wet.

I was not even thinking about playing tomorrow. Maybe I should go out and get invigorated

as DMM said. I do have long undies......and long golf pants that I bought when I was thinking

you and I were gonna play in 40Temp/20Wind conditions.

Being unable to get out there for the past two days what have I been doing with my days off? I have been keeping busy by............

 

Cleaning the crib.

Cleaning the ride.

Cleaning my golf gear. 

Practicing 7 footers and in on my indoor putting mat. 

Typing a bit all over the WRX.

Smoking weed and drinking hot tea while enjoying music thru my SONY headphones. 

 

Mr. Q turned me on to this incredible cover band last year and I think I might have already shared a video from the band in the Grille when I first joined. The lead singer Andreea Munteanu is just absolutely fantastic. ⚡

If you are not too old and crusty and can still enjoy a little hard rock then give the songs a listen. I believe you will be impressed. 

 

* Turn your volume down first as each video has a wicked loud introduction of a screeching electric guitar. Yikes. Showing my age. 😄 Then when the song begins you can bring up the volume to a comfortable setting.  I don't want tick off a fellow geezer right out of the gate while sharing this bands good music.  🙂
