Have not played golf for two years, but always walked unlike the 20 somethings that collapsed after two holes and went back for the cart, could never understand them, all of them on carts, but myself and my similar age golfing buddies always walked, and we were always quicker play. My local club was $900 per year as many games as you like, only had to pay a little extra if you entered the comps.

I must have missed something. You haven't played for two years?

... You rang? Far too many ignore this most important feature. When I was playing Recoil 95's s-flex I decided I needed to try Steelfiber 95's in the same s-flex. Performance was similar but the SF's felt like they weren't loading or unloading and I found myself swinging harder. As a tempo player with a smooth transition this not only took me out of my rhythm, it magnified the boardy feel. Played them one round only and sold them. A year later at the PGA Show Demo Day I was talking with an Aerotech VP of design and he said while there is no standards for flex, the Steelfibers played about a full flex stronger than most comparable graphite iron shafts and hand me a 6 iron with a i95 I r-flex and I dare say to was almost magical.

... I instantly understood why Steelfibers are so prevalent on the LPGA tour and used by some of the best ball strikers. Almost contradictory they are very tight while maintaining a smooth feel if you have the right flex. I imagine this is what you acidentlky found with your Recoils in senior flex. Heads make a difference no doubt, but give me 4 comparable heads with the right shaft and they will all be eminently playable. Give my my favorite head with 4 different comparable graphite shafts and I may only find one that would allow me to play them without changing anything about my swing. Took a chance on KBS TGi in s flex soft stepped when reviewing the Forged Tecs and alas I had to re-shaft with Steelfiber i80's to get a legit idea of how the iron played.

... Pot luck can be fun as is trial and error for equipment junkies, but getting fit or taking advantage of the Mizuno Optimizer is always an excellent idea. Luck is never bad as it seems you stumbled on perfect shafts to do battle with Cummings Cove, Etowah Valley and your home course a driver and 3 wood (properly shafted) from a Smokey Mountain flight pattern.

Good stuff.

When are you coming home and teeing it up with me?

So I stopped by the Grille for breakfast. (delicious as usual)  I had to laugh when I walked by the restroom door. I think Cyndy has taken to doing the signage again. Gus saw me smirking and said, "I think I can fix that" and winked. Might want to stay out of there for awhile.

Looks like a product of the SC Public school system there. Our Public school motto used to be "thank God for Mississippi" but now they out rank us in public education.

One time Charleston was on some kind of campaign and did quite a few billboards with "Support Charleston Public Education" What was hilarious was they spelled public "pubic" Man the press had a field day and so did social media. Man I guess they had crews on overtime pulling those down because all I had seen were down in like 2 days

It was 70 here yesterday a little cloud cover but no rain. I played the regular stuff because I did not play the Shootout Saturday. I also wanted to experiment with a club I had built and hit on the range some but had not put into play. About a month ago I had built a little Infiniti 26* hybrid. It was in one of the boxes from when my friend had retired and closed his shop. I had thrown in an old UST 65 stiff tip shaft I had laying around and had bent it up to like 27*. It really worked out well with my set up. It is a little shorter than standard but I wanted it that way for set distance. It really worked out well for me game wise on the course. So I am now like my hero Touch have 5 headcovers in the bag even though I do not use a headcover on it. Since I am now carrying 14 clubs I got a little irritated at the Jones bag and went the old fart route and put my stuff in my Mini Staff Titleist bag. Which that bag cart wise is the most user friendly one I own. I do not carry a lot of stuff anyhow. My back is healed up fine and the only time I actually lift it is from my car to a cart. If I can not get a cart for the range in crowded times I have my fold up Sunday bag in the car to carry a few clubs.

I am not sure if I will play today or not. My Big Boy ( French Bulldog) has a Vet appontment at 11:00. 2 weeks ago he had ear infections and they had packed his ears with antibiotics and given him some pills. His ears are looking good so this is a follow up per his vet. We also have Taco and Bingo night at the course heck of a deal. $5 all you can eat tacos and Bingo 4 cards for $20. The Tacos will be great because they will be home made and any food they do there is good. I may slide over there and then come back home and get the wife for the 5:30 start

Back when my wife worked for Kroger they had a Starbucks kiosk. One day I was off work so I went over and got her favorite Starbucks and brought it back to her. He manager ( who was a golf bud) saw me and asked if I was going to get me one? I told him I would have to go across the street to the Scotsman convience store to get me one because I could not afford 2 of them. We got a good laugh course he knew the answer and that I was a truck driver and did not drink foo foo coffee as I call it.

Now days she does not drink Starbucks at all because our political and social views clashed with their statements. I do love to throw it at her from time to time that I never drank Starbucks and never will

Oh I forgot you retired guys walk because you need the exercise. Some of us are still hustling for a living and relish riding in a cushy golf cart when we play. For me at least it saves my legs and by doing that I am able to make a more powerful swing when it's time to smooth one. 😅

And some of us are partially handicapped----- I do walk some in my rounds---- I relish and miss the old days when I could walk and play like a 5 club set of vintage clubs especially in bad weather when the course was vacant. Loved the wind and rain hitting a knuckle down blade 1 iron and a knuckle down run up 5 iron. Can not hit the 1 iron like I used to but can still hit one reasonably decent----- When we play the shootouts I will sometimes grab my putter and walk up like 120 yards or so to the green, Some days I get WFO and my buds have to caution me not to tire myself out or get myself to hurting

... As much as I would certainly enjoy it, I am afraid any journey of distance is not in the cards. With a degenerative disc I cannot drive that far and flying might be even worse. But of course I never say never.

The exact thing I experience with my back injury. I can not drive and or ride far

I could not see me walking any more, amazing how the few years since I played have hurt my body, shopping today and I was very pleased to get home.

No, damaged my shoukder and it requires an operation, I do not recover well from anaesthetic so have decided at my age to not have  it, possibly may try a pitch and putt shortly.

I remember now. I think I even posted because my wife had the same issue until we started to instruct the doctors that she didn't recover well and was knocked out easily.

Remember I got my new irons at the end of the year and then the deep freeze hit. Once it got semi warm out I got in three solid range sessions with them. I liked their performance immediately. I found out after my range sessions I hit them a full 10 yards further. I finally got to play them for the first time on January 10th. Last week I played two rounds and this week I have also played two.

Here is how it went over the 4 rounds.

Last Tuesday

BFCC

par 70

senior tees

5885 yds

68.2 / 127

The Good.

I held my own playing with members on one of the two toughest courses that I play.

The Bad.

My swing was way too anxious and quick with a new iron in my hand starting out so I only hit two greens on the front. I was lucky and I saved a few. I figured this out at the turn and began on the back to swing my irons with proper rhythm.

I made a mess of my favorite hole #16 and took a triple to start the finishing holes.    Zero birdies.    Shot a 9 over 79.

Last Wednesday

Broadmoor Golf Links

home course

par 72

white tees

5881 yds

68.0 / 125

The Good.

I played pretty sloppy on the front (+5) but got much more steady on the back.

My fwy's and hybrids were money.

The Bad.

I had 4 birdie bids lip out.

I made a double coming in.

With zero birdies I shot 78.

Monday this week

Cummings Cove

par 71

senior tees

4948

69.2 / 128

The Good.

I got paired up with 3 guys and two of them could play a bit.

There was absolutely no wind. I can't remember the last round I played that this was the case. Kind of neat.

My leave the driver in the car for this tight golf course move paid mighty dividends.

I made two birdies.

Again big praise for my fairway woods.

The Bad.

It was CPO for the front nine and because it was a holiday we were out there 4 hours 50 minutes.

I missed two other birdies from inside 5 feet.

Heard from the group I was paired up with.

"LP you are a lot of fun to play with because it is obvious you love the game a bunch and have such high energy, but it is boring to play with you........ too much down the middle on the green, down the middle on the green."

I shot a 78 and was pleased because Cummings Cove is a tough track.

Today

Broadmoor

Same numbers as above for my home course.

On the range prior to my round I was trying to figure out who I was going to be paired with. Would it be the grey haired retirees or the brewery going hipsters. It was the beards and tattoo dudes that I drew.  These boys could play some. They hit it mile but too often it wasn't in the short grass and that made them miss many greens. I had a fantastic day. I hit 12 fairways and 14 greens. I was peppering pins all day with my irons and hybrids. My putter was decent and I rolled 4 birdie putts in but it should have been 6 as I just missed two. I made no bad shots.   I shot a one over 73.

Heard from the group I was paired up with.

" LP you are a really good iron player."

I broke 80 the first four rounds with my P790's. That says something.

I am swinging them with gobs of confidence already.

Will it last a long time? Of course not, but their coming out party so far has been an absolute rush!

They are now broken in and battle tested.

I figured wearing the visor today was good for at least 3 strokes. 🤣

new irons witb.jpg

LP on 17 at Broadmoor.jpg

So the Recoils in senior flex are a lot softer than the Honma's regular? Just wondered because the Honma regular flex shafts seem pretty soft.

Wish I could walk (double foot drop) can't walk the course, or barely hit the ball any more. Wish I could drive, They won't let me (epilepsy) I rammed the back of a box truck at 55 mph 5 years ago, seat belts and air bags do work!

Even after that they said 'no driving for 6 months' but the kicker for me was having a seizure while driving a golf cart and driving diagonally across 3 fairways towards a pond. I have complex partial not grand mal, so I remember it, sort of, I remember thinking 'wow, I'm driving across these fairways, I don't know why... I don't know anything" 🤣 Good thing someone caught up with me. They finally said 'no driving, ever!' Now it's, 'you can play golf, in a cart, someone else has to drive', find people who are kind enough to help you up and down elevated greens and tees and such. After a while 'you retired guys' feel like such a pain it takes a lot of the fun out of it... So the grille is nice because you get to read stories of golf and see pics of nice courses, better than TV golf courses which are unreachable to play on.

Tough decision for the final range day tomorrow Waterford (local) or Heron Creek (awesome practice facility).

Waterford is very close to where we stay on vacation and I use the driving range there (large bucket for $10).  I will have to check out the practice facility at Heron Creek.
